Rockstar has yet to make a simulation.

Doubt you can qualify any game they made as realistic.

Realistic and simulation are not the same by the way.

Also they take years to develop a game.
Much different then an yearly release.

For the record i have been playing rockstar games (GTA) since 1998 before nba2k got its first release ever ....

IMO the way Rockstar designs games, something akin to GTA meets White Men Can't Jump might work for them, but not a serious simulation of professional sports.

I don't think it's completely fair to claim the entire game is trash. Some modes are better than others, and as an offline player that just enjoys diving into quick matches every other night, I've had a good time with 2K20 overall.

I do think the online modes, rosters (especially the tendencies), and MyLeague (bugs, progression, stock draft classes), could and should be improved.

as a standalone 5 on 5 basketball game playing with cpu and friends on the couch, I still say 2k is the best sports game you can buy, argubably next to MLB the Show. The MyCareer and MyTeam is getting stale. We need a revamp of the great modes they used to have in the early 2k days with no push for VC and just making it fun again. Online can be limited if they give us more to do. I miss the NBA Greatest Mode (2k12) Jordan mode (2k11). The crib etc.... Creating an NBA Legend, the Lebron Path to Greatness, NO VC required. And unlimited replayablity.

Sim mode and true simulation are 2 entirely different things.

Sim mode is pretty much a different slider set.

True simulation is pretty much an entire different game.

Park is the arcade version
Jrc is the sim version.
Pro am is the comp version.

They already have what you want.

All of the mentioned modes dont resemble Basketball at all. So in my opinion none of them is a sim Mode.

I can certainly understand where you are coming from. Definitely anyone who prefers to play online has to be at least willing to compromise and accept the game for what it is, or else deal with being miserable every second online,which honestly sounds so awful it would drive me to another game pretty quickly.

Well Tell me which other Basketball game exists then i go There.... There is none sadly, so i have to go with whatever **** 2k gives me.

I agree....right now for online players it is either deal with whatever 2K has going on, or don't play any basketball at all.I don't like it and I'm not saying it doesn't stink; unfortunately until there is an alternative the hard truth is that it is what it is.

I think all sports games have problems with metas or not being "sim enough" for some people. The existence of an alternative and more competent game will not push 2K Sports to suddenly release this "perfect" game that they had hidden in their back pocket. Even with its flaws, NBA 2K is still considered to the best and deepest sports game to date. I play only PNO and REC, and there's still like...what...3-6 modes for me to dive into and invest time. And when I mean modes...I mean MODES, because they're relatively unique to each other. It would be like buying COD and having the standard Multiplayer games, a RTS game, some game that uses cards, build your character, story mode, and a VR game wrapped into one game.

EDIT: Honestly, I think more and more people will eventually shift from the NBA part of the game, and play more MyPlayer. I thought that I would never full throw myself into that mode, but I've been having a blast with it. It's a different mindset similar to pick-up basketball. When I step on the court, I'm ready to ball, and prove that I'm better than my matchup.

Because people want to live their life vicariously through the game,
the aesthetics, cosmetics, name brands, simulating playing in pickup games...they even have modes to simulate exercising.

The actual strategic elements of the NBA modes have been compromised for this.

not at all, the foundation of the game is broken.
For example; all the releases were botched at launch and they used badges to speed some up to unnatural levels.
Or the legacy issues like scripted animations

It doesn't matter who plays, the mechanics are bad regardless.

Define "botched". Also, every player don't have badges to speed up shooting animations. Scripted animations are an evil in some cases, because technology is not advanced enough for character models to be completely free. If you look at all videogames across all genres, they all use some form of scripted animations.

My question...if two sim-minded individuals play the game, does it play like basketball for the most part?

How often do two sim minded people really get to sit down and play each other, outside of friends or players in strictly regulated online Leagues?

2K online is kind of like playing Fight Night Champion online back in the day.While you might rarely find yourself in a something close to a semi real boxing match, most of the time it's just gonna be dudes picking power punchers and spamming hooks....because the great majority of the time that was all you had to do.

2K,as it is, primarily markets itself to online gamers, not sports simulations fans.There is nothing wrong with this per se,just if you are hoping for a super realistic NBA experience be aware going in that 2K is likely not going to be the game for you.
