Everyone is missing the point. If you wanted to honor Kobe you would have a Kobe Bryant career challenge mode like NBA 2k11 for Michael Jordan. Instead they are just slapping him on the cover and increasing prices at that. The online gameplay totally broke when 2K19 came out. I didn't waste my money on 2K20 and only would buy 2K21 if they made a Kobe challenge mode. My only hope is that in about 2-3 years, gameplay will peak again like it always does on a new console. Those of us my age (33) who have been playing since Dreamcast have been through this viscious cycle before. First game on new console sucks a$$. This one is a total money grab even more so than 2K19 and 20. #BRINGBACK2K18SERVERS !!!!!

A Kobe challenge was impossible to make. So idk why that’s a gripe. Kobe died 4 months ago. 2k21 production was nearing the end when he passed. Not to mention a pandemic

Production costs will increase on next gen, we haven't had an increase in video game pricing in nearly 20 years & truthfully an increase was inevitable.

It'll be up to people to be smarter consumers and budget where they see fit. Or they can get on OS, Twitter, blogs, podcasts, other social media platforms or mass media outlets & bitch about it (like now.)

Also, just because it is an annual title (sports or otherwise) doesn't mean they should decrease the price. Except on rare occasions of attempting to gain marketshare that doesn't happen & isn't realistic. The licenses are expensive, they need to turn a profit & deserve to earn a good living.

But I'm sure none of that matters because "the 'evil' corporation is too greedy."

You guys in America have nothing to complain about haha your game prices are great.

Here in Australia we get screwed over..

Current gen PS4 & Xbox new games from game retailers like EB Games & the PS Store charge $99

Standard copy of NBA2K in past yrs $99
The Legends Editions in the past $149

I buy from Mightyape which is a New Zealand company but has some outlets here in Oz in Brisbane & Sydney. They post out games 3 days before the release.
They sell most new games for around $69 - $79.

NBA2K standard copy is usually $69
                  Legends Edition usually $119

I've just checked there site for the PS5 versions.

                  Standard Zion - $89
                  Mamba Edition - $139

$20 increase for next gen by the looks.

Funny. Watching some videos that's focusing on the NBA 2K21 pricing. It seems that a lot of game companies were thinking about raising the price on video games anyway, since game pricing hadn't went up since the beginning of the 360/PS3 era. For the most part, all the videos that I watched are stating that Take Two opened Pandora's Box for the increased pricing from ALL companies with the next-gen console.

It's about to be ugly when other future AAA titles start coming out and try leverage the smart delivery against consumers. Damn you Take Two.

Surprised that they aren't doing the Smart Delivery/Cross Buy and making it $10 more on next gen.

So unless you buy Legend Edition, you're going to have to buy twice if you planned on buying it for current gen
Vary rarely will I buy a game twice. One exception was GTA5 because they introduced first person mode to the game. That was like a whole new experience worthy of me playing through twice and getting %100 completion.

This game will not be bought twice especially with the way they are handling things. . . forcing people to buy the legend edition in order to not have to buy the game twice. I am fine sticking with older versions of the game and waiting for the standard edition on next gen. If they are going to start charging people $69.99 for standard edition games at least use the smart delivery system.

That's one way to look at it. My thought is if 2K didn't have any micro transactions in the game then fine. With the current business model of most multiplayer games there is no need to raise the cost of a game.

That frame of thought is a slippery slope. A lot of folks are already skipping those fast food meals before even trying to carve out extra funds for a game.

Even at $64 (after tax), that price was steep enough to generally limit me to one full-priced purchase per year. We're now pushing things to $75 (again, after tax). I'm sure gaming companies have researched price points that work best for them but as a consumer in a world where wages for many aren't keeping up with inflation, I feel like I've been slowly getting priced out when it comes to video gaming.

I guess the good news is that games can sometimes be found for a discount a few months after release. Still, as a general trend, it's a tough pill to swallow. I thought I was already sacrificing as a consumer when prices jumped from $50 to $60. Now here we are again. Maybe a $70 price tag is necessary for gaming companies to remain solvent. Or maybe it's just maximizing profits. (Or maybe a bit of both.) In either case, it's not a great situation for a lot of consumers out there.

2k makes me sick that they’re charging $10 more on next gen and in order to get the next gen upgrade there’s a $100 paywall behind it and you know what is so sad about it? They’re profiting off a dead basketball legend to make matters worse. They should be ashamed of themselves but you know they’re not.

so you mad because they made a legend edition for Kobe after everyone wanted it and guessed 2k would do it AND are mad for a 10 dollar increase for a version that was specifically build for next gen consoles?

That’s nothing as other countries are paying higher prices for the games when it should be standard across all over but that will never happen as most companies what a profit. Here in Canada we’re looking at $99.99 for game.
