Re: Defense is completely broken
Honestly? I think that the issue you reported might not have been reported by anyone before. 90% of todays NBA 2k playerbase likely does not know what defensive settings are and especially not what "ICE" or "pre-rotate" should actually do and what it looks like when these kind of settings are bugged. Maybe we should start collecting some of these bugs that won't get great attention from the casual (meaning the myplayer and myteam) fanbase and then report them. That way 2k would receive multiple reports on the same issues and maybe then actually do something...Comment

That’s my thinking. I know alabamarob let czar know about these issues but the more of us report it the better. Especially through official channels. Dev teams have to justify allocation of their time and resources and in my companies that’s based on service request tickets. Also they need these issues documented so they don’t copy the same bad code to 2k22.Comment

Re: Defense is completely broken
I feel you. I dunno what skill level these guys are, but in general when playing people who are really good that's just how it is, you have to force them out of what they wanna do and, if lucky, the second thing, too. Then have your own bread and butter and hope they mess up down the stretch.
Don't be afraid to gamble, don't be afraid to slowly close the door on people. That's always been my strategy: lull people into thinking they got a go to move and then shut it down as the game goes on and they usually panic and throw the game. Obviously it's harder with take over and all that, and the D is probably trash... actually you're on CG PC aren't you?
Trust the process, make them do what you want them to do, and if they do it say gg.
Of course I don't really play for keeps like that anymore cuz it's stressful. haha, that stuff is legit bad for your health. I think that's what people underestimate about esports players, not just how much they have to practice, but how foreign it is to have your mind and body (sort of) working so hard while you are in a sitting position. It's very unnatural. Maybe they are wired differently.
Last time I was in a league I was smashing everyone but someone destroyed me by using what I felt was cheesy tactics. Everyone else loved it because they thought I was cheesy. I was mad, but in the end, what are ya gonna do.
I'm (probably haha) not the best strategist, but if you can show me like 5-10 minutes of gameplay vs this person I might be able to tell you what I'd do, altho your mileage executing what I feel is 'a smart strategy' may vary. It's hard to tell if my strategies were good or if I was just so stubborn that I made them work haha.

Well its not one Single guy. its basically nearly every game. Lots of Teams are Bad shooting wise with several non shooting players, and i "proud" myself that i never Was the best Video game wise but am a Good tactician, especially on D. So i often time think what they might do and try to shut that down, like you mentioned. often Times its just "abusing" a specific star Player or drives to the rim, so having my Centers as free Roaming drive stoppers/double teamers is what i really like to do against that. but with the options 2k gives US this is only possible in theory.Comment

Re: Defense is completely broken
I was fiddling around with the game today, and I noticed something kind of interesting as it relates to interior defense and defending the drive....if you L2/LT into the ball handler, the Moving Truck badge activates.
This got me into some testing, and it seems to indicate that any time the defender collides with a ball handler the game considers it a post situation and activates the appropriate badges.
Now as to what I was able to observe:
-Having Moving Truck equipped seems help reduce/prevent drives to the hoop as it actually lets the defender push the ball handler away from the lane whenever a contact animation happens.Combined with Clamps it will generate cut off/"stone wall" animations pretty often as long as the defender isn't incredibly slow.
-Although I didn't test it as much Backdown Punisher seems to have the opposite effect, allowing the ball handler to more easily push/ride defenders all the way to the hoop. I think this is a good part of the reason why certain slashers (Giannis,Lebron, etc.) are able to trigger crazy contact dunks so often.Comment

Re: Defense is completely broken
ACE is a mess, but there are ways to hack it into doing some things. Most importantly, turn ACE OFF for user controlled teams.
If you want your center to stay in the paint & provide help defense, then you have to set the entire team’s defensive settings in specific ways. The way help defense works in this game is based on 2K’s “one pass away” strong-side logic which can override the individual player’s off-ball setting. I’ve been able to get around this by making sure the rest of the team (PG/SG/SF/PF) are set to Tight Off-Ball while setting the Center to Gap or Leave Him. Any player set to Gap is a potential help defender.
The rest of the assignment logic has more to do with P&R and off-ball screen settings since most of 2K’s offense is ball screen related. The best way to keep big defenders in the paint is to set everyone’s P&R to Go Over, No Hedge, Stay Attached No, No Help vs Screens, and Go Under Off-Ball Screens. Then set the opposing big’s defensive settings to Go Under for everything.
The other contrarian thing I do is set Help Defense sliders way down to a range between 5-25. I don’t think many people understand what this slider does since 2K20/21 because it’s clearly different from the earlier games. It used to clearly mean help rotations from the paint, but now I’ve only seen it impact double teams and logic to help/trap on perimeter/drives. That’s usually going to result in your bigs (who are set to Gap or Leave as the primary help defender) rushing around the perimeter looking for ball handlers to help against. If you keep the Help Defense coaching slider low, but have your other P&R/Help defensive settings correct then you will see more NBA style help defense in the paint. The game’s defensive rotation logic seems to use those defensive settings over the help defense slider.
Having said all of that, some things are truly broken defensively and have been that way for years. Switching logic is broken as far as positioning is concerned which is why so many ball handlers get open looks in 2K against switches.
Go Over and Switch off-ball logic is broken when you see how defenders are willing to run away from their assignment towards the sidelines in transition or in the paint.
Gap on-ball still keeps the on-ball defender too close on the perimeter.
Catch Hedge positioning is too far on the perimeter when defending side/wing P&R which makes it almost useless at defending either the drive or roll.Comment

Re: Defense is completely broken
Have you figured out a way to get the AI to actually switch an off ball screen? I have gotten most other settings to play how I want, but I literally don’t think I’ve ever seen my AI teammates switch an off ball screen. It’s frustrating because it’s such an easy way to get a wide open look when in reality a team would never let guys get open that easy. I’ve had ACE turned off, switch off ball screen on, etc. still nothing
Change coach settings to switch as team focus

Re: Defense is completely broken
2k21 is literally like playing NBA Jams online minus the fireball. I swear the more selfish and dumb you play on offense with the right HOF badges the more the game rewards you for playing bad. It doesn't matter how good the defense is.
Offline the AI is dumb as a rock. 2k21 as a whole for both online and offline has been a horrible experience. I guess I expected a lot more going into next gen with what the developers were capable of doing. The gameplay as a whole has just become very stagnant to me the last 5 years or so. The gameplay in 2k was way more fun during the first half on last gen up until around 2k17 and before that going back on the 360/ps3.
Now it's seems like the target audience is people who don't have a clue about actual basketball. Instead they just want people to be able to perform highlight plays just about every time down the court.Comment

Re: Defense is completely broken
First time poster and I'm not allowed to make a thread of my own and this is the thread that is closest to what I want to ask so here goes.
Can someone break-down / explain the Half-Court trap defense?
What are the best Defensive settings used both for my team but also against individual players?
Do I want to smother on-ball and gap everything else?
What kind of badges would run this defense best?
Any kind of feedback would be great, I'm trying to workshop this defense but it seems like any changes I make from my baseline settings just mess it up?
Does anyone run this defense or a variation similar to it? I like trapping, forcing turnovers and scoring in transition. My rotations are decent
Thanks to anyone who sees thisComment

Re: Defense is completely broken
I'm trying my best to recreate Villanova 1-2-2 3/4 Press Defense. When I go to half-court Trap the 2 players at the centerline just run towards the ball carrier, even if I have Pressure set to NO.Comment
