This particular cash grab doesn't bother me as much cuz like when did we start caring about what's on loading screens? Glance at your phone during it and the ad's over. But it's not surprising because this is the mindset of the company to squeeze out every last drop. Can't really blame them cuz their a business. But where 2K really starts to lose people is when they are doing all these cold-blooded cash grabs WHILE outputting portions of their game that are a sh*** product or experience. I haven't had a problem with the VC, the cash grabs, the ads, if the money went to supporting a superior product we could all get behind. But I'd say the gameplay balance and realism has suffered, matchmaking is 3rd rate, servers could be better, and the grind / pay to win model has gotten stale.

Re: NBA 2K21 Quietly Adds Unskippable Ads
1) There's NO written rule that says that developers/game companies CAN'T put ads in THEIR videogames. Period. If a company decides to "buy a spot" in a videogame and the publisher allows it, well guess what? You're going to see an ad. I guess the alternative would be to NOT have any ads and jack up the price of videogames to compensate for rising costs.
2) I already said that Netflix doesn't have ads, but technically movie trailers and feature movie placement is a form of an advertising. Netflix wants you to watch their movies.
3) Even with some membership services, you still some form of an ad. I have YouTube premium. The moment that the YouTube creator talks about a product (i.e. Manscape grooming products), that IS a form of an ad or advertising. Period.
I don't what world you live in, but like I said before...ads are everywhere.Comment

At least its only in a loading screen. Previously it was uninterruptible and an extra 15-20 seconds before it loaded the regular loading screen.Comment

2K TV is the original unskippable ad. What we're seeing is evolution.

Re: NBA 2K21 Quietly Adds Unskippable Ads
Coming here or other sites everyday and complaining about 2K as a company may make you personally feel better, like you're sticking it to the man and telling it like it is....but in the end, you're no 'better' than anyone else who has a different opinion on the ads.....if you're still buying the game.
When you and that person show up on 2K's report, you'll be completely identical.
"Unit sold". Not "Unit sold and showd us who's boss in the comment section"
So let people feel how they feel. The important thing is, if this is a major thing for you....is that a major outlet like IGN is covering it.
To take issue with the fact I take issue with a multi million dollar company using disingenuous tactics to cram unwanted advertising down our throats is annoying to say the least.Comment

Re: NBA 2K21 Quietly Adds Unskippable Ads
was happy that this year was relatively free of that. Gearing up for next gen. I can't be mad, but yea it sucks. We lost the ad war for real.
I think we won the cutscenes and overall majority of our playtime though. It's not like it's coming on before park games or something. This park game is brought to you by.... colgate... smiling mouth close up.
But yea I saw that, was like wat... and then was like heh, and got on with it.
Also re: various banter about ads in games, I do find it hilarious how I (we?) have become so accustomed to just pounding the button to advance cutscenes and all that. People who saw us playing would think we were some kind of neanderthal just pressing the button over and over, but you have to in order for the game to progress.

I swear you follow me from thread to thread disagreeing with anything I have to say. 9/10 on 2ks side like they paying you or something?

I guess we can all ask you if you’re being paid by a rival company to bash 2K basketball every chance you get in every thread about anything?

For people to even argue with me in this thread of forced advertisement by 2k on a non free to play game is all the evidence I need.Comment

Re: NBA 2K21 Quietly Adds Unskippable Ads
Nah just one of the only non 2k shills that is willing to call it out for what it is. All good, if head in the sand works for people. This site is known for bias towards a certain company so it is to be expected.
For people to even argue with me in this thread of forced advertisement by 2k on a non free to play game is all the evidence I need.
I’m just having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that you’re so upset about an ad being placed in the section of the game that can’t be skipped until the game is loaded anyway.
Then on top of that, it only appears once for people and they never see it again.
It isn’t during actual gameplay, it isn’t any of the menus or replays, but literally during a loading screen.
The way you literally bash this game at every opportunity tells me that you are either a huge Live fan and want to run down 2K basketball because you want Live back, or, maybe you just shouldn’t be playing this game anymore?
If 2K is such an “evil” company that preys on consumers and we’re all shills for enjoying a video game, why are you still playing it? Why do you keep giving your hard earned $60 to such a POS company?
I’m sure you’ll be back for next gen or for 2K22 doing the exact same thing. You give them your money, then you’ll be on here telling everyone how evil and pathetic they are in every thread. Is it fun being so cynical?

Re: NBA 2K21 Quietly Adds Unskippable Ads
NBA is already a world of ads by itself.
You can see dornas ingame and its just realistic, i have no issue with that.
You can also see ads with the wipes, ingame commentaries and i think MyCareer has products advertising too. I think those parts are already borderlines.
But the real problem is that it's an AAA game full of microtransactions and additional ads.
I remember how i was pissed in 2K16 when they added an ingame watermark hashtag, replaced real dornas by ads for VC sales etc...
If you're think this behaviour is normal or dont care cos "its just one time", its a problem because 2K will continue in this way.
This behaviour, this greediness shouldnt be tolerate at this level by any customer.
On NBA2K, its a problem generated by 2K. But I have no illusions, if Live go back, EA would use the same tricks.Comment

As another poster said, ads are everywhere, and when engaging in my hobby I'd rather it be a quiet space of sorts where I can get away from things like corporations shilling for me to spend more money at every turn.
Sure, for now it's one commercial...however I feel that if people "just accept it" even if they disagree, corporations will take that as a green light to monetize through commercials even more and slowly but surely it will become into two, then three, then more and more until somewhere years down the line they have us watching ads between every round of Street Fighter and a 5 minute ad break at halftime of every game in MyCareer.
Without dipping too far into the topic (I don't think this is the place to debate it), I don't think any video game should get into actively endorsing ANY kind of politics IN GAME. This is exactly the kind of real life stuff I play video games to get a break from.Comment
