Re: NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Gameplay Blog (Part 3 of 3) - MyPLAYER, Builds, Badges, Takeove
Only the fuzzy one is leaked. The other 2 were from 2K released footage. Haven’t found anything with a “Center” build. They seem to be categorized only by height now. That 6’9 fuzzy one is the only bigger build I’ve seen.

I hope 2k has fixed body blocks this year. That will be the determining factor if max defense bigs are OP. All 95s in Paint Defense + Blocks will be hard to score against.Last edited by ImInThis; 10-29-2020, 01:51 PM.Comment

Hmmmm....I like this idea. It forces an individual to spread the points around more evenly.Comment

For the record, I love the speculation in this thread more than any other thread. Seems like everyone wants to nitpick the game to death in the other threads. As a side note, are we assuming that we're looking at the part of the builder where you eventually get to test the build?
I'm assuming that the reward of points is similar to NBA 2K20 and 2K21 respectively. I don't do this, but I thought you could buy your way to an 85 overall?Comment

There’s a screen after the stat allocation where you get to pick your takeovers - 2K showed this. After that, I would think you get to pick an overall and test your build if you want.
In past games it’s costed about ~175k of VC (depending on build and how you allocated your stats) to get your guy to an 85 which was the highest you could get without earning MyPoints by actually playing. I would be surprised if this was raised significantly because it generally earns 2K some bad press. The only thing that could result in it costing more VC, in my opinion, is people loading up stats in fewer categories (like the OP guard build). Typically the higher you get in a stat category, the more VC it costs (so all around builds are cheaper).
One question that remains is are you actually going to start with 25 in every category? And if not, how do they get you to the typical base 60 we’ve had the last few games? My guess is they’ll allow you to distribute points after you start your career to get to a 60.

Re: NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Gameplay Blog (Part 3 of 3) - MyPLAYER, Builds, Badges, Takeove
The other thing I’ve been musing over is how it doesn’t actually SHOW you a bucket of points. There’s only 2 reasons I can think of why they would do that:
1. The obvious one - Physicals are tied to some stats. We see vertical go up as driving dunk is raised. I would imagine speed with ball and rebounding/blocking could be tied to physicals as well. So perhaps they didn’t put a bucket of points because it might confuse people to see more than one decrementing from their bucket as they add points to categories.
2. Less likely. Maybe stats are weighted differently?

Re: NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Gameplay Blog (Part 3 of 3) - MyPLAYER, Builds, Badges, Takeove
I have NO desire or felt forced to buy VC. I spent time using the MyNBA2k app to farm VC(even though they have significantly skimped on the VC given out since MyNBA2k16). I just wish they started your player out at 70-75 OVR to closely resemble fellow rookies. That's why I preferred The One mode progression over MyCareer. The whole point of starting your player at 60 OVR is for the online crowd who wants to be immediately competitive. With the storylines based on your player being a phenom heading into the league, I never liked starting at a 60 OvR. I always save up VC until I have enough to get me to 75 OVR, then I start.
That's why I wish they just separated the online portion and offline portion. That way you can keep the restrictions and microtransactions themed gimmicks for online. I rather them flesh out MyCareer and only microtransactions pressure would be for accessories. Some thing I liked in The One(Live) is that Physical Ratings are essentially maxed from the jump. If our weight never fluctuates, I rather physical ratings be at or near max potential from the start.Comment

Yeah the grind really isn’t that bad EXCEPT at the very start when your guy is a potato. Like you said, that could be easily alleviated by having you start as a 75. Hell, even if they made the cost to get to 85 the same (I.e. each point costed more) it would still make the grind less painful. I’m sure that’s mostly a monetary decision since they know a lot of players can’t tolerate playing as a 60.
It seems like there’s a decent amount of players who want a purely offline experience with more control. It doesn’t seem like it would be hard to implement either since it’s just modifying the online mode. I’m guessing they must be holding out some hope that they can convert these guys to online players if they force them to interact with it.

Re: NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Gameplay Blog (Part 3 of 3) - MyPLAYER, Builds, Badges, Takeove
All throughout this thread I don't think many people are taking this into account honestly with the "you can make a OP guard" crowd. Even another myplayer build video of a 6'5 Guard, it was at a 95 with dribbling 80, perimeter defense 45, 79 speed, 69 stamina, you would basically be a statue on defense and slow on offense with no handles. You aren't gonna be able to make a OP guard build while having good physicals/stamina. And good luck to people who think skimping on stamina will work out.Comment

I honestly think I re-stated it like 10 times already but the point was he had put a bunch of stats in sub-optimal categories like rebounding, blocking, standing dunk and post control that he could have easily redistributed to physicals. Again, we don’t KNOW there’s not more restraints in place but there was nothing obvious in the video.

Re: NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Gameplay Blog (Part 3 of 3) - MyPLAYER, Builds, Badges, Takeove
But the bigger question is, is there an actual allotment of attribute points or it the OVR based on skills? That would answer all of the questions. If it is an allotment of attribute points, then yes you will see those OP builds because they just need to know how to allocate those points. But if it based on skill, then no those builds shouldn't be possibleComment

once a rating starts to hit 80 then 90 is when it should be more allocation points.. so put is where u want but builds will be differentComment
