I'm not sure I'd be overly worried about it. The Show does similarly with CAPs and it can be rather helpful to round out slightly weaker areas, plus you are always making trade-offs in your equipment. A certain bat might give you more contact, but less power or vice versa. We'll see how 2k implements it, but I am not concerned personally.

You guys might not be but I am. I am a highly competitive person and get very irritated at pay to win inclusion in games, especially when I have already paid a premium price for the game to start out with. As a matter of fact I think it is absolutely disgusting. We have already had numerous threads on how the continued increase in badges has severely diminished the sim aspect of the game and now we have the ability to earn 9 more locked behind an additional paywall. Like they already give Legends aka people that have no life outside of playing their game an additional 10 badges as it is. It is crazy. Why even play a game when you walk up and know that the person is going to shoot 90+% from the field primarily because of the amount of badges they have. If you play off even for a bit all their their shooting badges and will be an auto 3, if you play up you will get hit with some idiotic stun animation because of dribble badges and they will fly right past you for a dunk. If you slide over to help you will just get pulled into a dunk on animation because you know, a badge is on hof. If they use a screen you will literally just get sucked into it or even from the top side to the other side in the opposite direction because they have brick wall on hof. It is just dumb. There is no skill in out badging another player, but they don't truly care about that, they want everyone to try and out grind the other players. This trash aint for me anymore. I am done grinding and putting real life money into a game just to be on an even playing field. This is the most ethically immoral game out of any currently being sold.

I blame the youtubers and the streamers who buy VC every year instead of grinding. This influences the younger kids who watch them to buy VC. If streamers and youtubers would say don't buy VC this year 2k may be forced to change but that is very very unlikely.

I have been playing 2k basketball since Dreamcast, This year marked my 10th online game that I have played... EVER!! So this means nothing to me. I want them to focus on offline gaming. I am tired of online intergration. I have real life friends if I feel like balling against human competition. I appreciate the old days of My career being offline with the option to play online. I don't mind buying VC to start off. I also don't see why you can't begin with a decent level player either. No one comes into the NBA with such dismal stats. I would not be against the format they had in NBA 2k10 career mode. They didn't give you attribute points, they gave your player skills based on how you played the game. Then once you hit the NBA, you had full control over the team with your player being a star. MC Skills was your rival due to the journey. Pure Video game Gold back then

This is the wave. 2K is an online centric game now through and through. Mostly all of their efforts will be going into the My Player/ Neighborhood aspect of the game.

We know this and I don’t think anyone will be surprised about that fact going forward.

Re: NBA 2K22 Seasons Expands Into MyCAREER and The W Online

As someone who likes playing Offline MyCareer(though it has been stale since 2k18 and had bugs that were never touched last year), it always suck knowing you'll have to start out at 60 OVR. I have no desire to buy VC. Heck, I always wait until Black Friday to buy the game on sale. I'm not sure how much of a discount the next gen versions will be this year on Black Friday. It puts you in the position where you have to spend more money just to have your player competent or have to grind even more. I still prefer the The One's system where you start over 70 OVr with your physicals nearly maxed. Then have to buy animations and the like. For me, my main issue is that the mode becomes so much about the grind, it takes the fun out of it when you're actually done grinding. I don't mind the grind, but when the mode itself is shallow offline, when you finish grinding, not much else to play for.

You guys are complaining about paywalls and pay-to-win aspects...in a thread about a free season program that is literally going to give all the stuff your complaining about having to pay for...FOR FREE???

I'm so confused. 2K has obviously had borderline immoral money grubbing tactics in MyCareer for a long time now. But this is literally an addition that will curtail that at least a bit.

What you really think this is gonna be free? Watch them add a way for you to skip the grind and buy everything that comes out during the season for 10,000 VC.

                    lol I get y'all skepticism. 2K doesn't inspire confidence.

But literally in the situation you described, getting all those items for 10,000 VC would be a small fraction of how much it costs to get those same things in games prior.

I enjoyed the Seasons concept in MyTeam.

The article implies they've listened to two major pain points regarding MyCareer as far as the grind and worthwhile rewards. We will see in a week though.

With the replies I assumed they put out a pricing list or something, lol

I can see where you're coming from. At least, it isn't a paid Battle Pass. Wonder if VC is apart of the rewards as well. Over the years, they lessen the opportunities for you to earn VC outside of the events. Even something as small as the MYNBA2k was something I used to farm VC. It didn't give you as many daily VC as its first couple years, but after a while it adds up. I always wait until Black Friday to buy 2k. So I would usually have around 40k VC saved up. But last year, that app was pointless after you got a face scan you liked.

I do wonder if it is only earnable inside the City/Neighborhood. The way how it was worded, it seemed like something that was earned in City/Neighborhood only. Like I said, I'm offline when it comes to MyCareer. If it is something I can level up playing MyCareer games, then I'll look forward to it. But, I'm not into the accessories, apparel, City perks. If it wasn't for knowing the City plays a big part in the MyCareer, I would only partake in it when I have too. I'm still hoping the City has fast travel

I mean 10,000 VC is a bad example but you get my point. At some time they may decide to allow people to skip that grind and just pay for it.

You don't think they see what Fornite is doing and may decide to copy their business model?

Yeah, as someone who embraced online MyCareer around 2K18, that mode desperately needed a battle pass type thing (that maybe will have VC as a level reward like Fortnite does?). And even better it seems like it's going to be free.

Definitely understand where you're coming from as an offline MyCareer player tho. Been giving MyCareer offline a shot since the first year (2K10...f*** I'm old) and been doing player lock Frachises/Associations/MyLeagues/MyNBAs since 2K4.

Around 2K13, when they first started to show that VC sales were a key focus, I realized that I can't really get the experience I want out of MyCareer offline. I'd try for a few weeks every year but I'd always end up going back to player lock Association/MyLeague. (Sidenote: 2K has actually done a pretty good job on improving on this experience over the years...to the point that I hope we'll get an offline career mode in MyNBA one day and everyone can be happy)

I know from being on these boards, though, that there is a strong contingent of folks that want a little more than what Player Lock in MyNBA has to offer (story/cutscenes, practice facility, postgame interview, etc.). And I do really feel bad for y'all b/c 2K does seem to be moving away from that with this release.

Here's to me hoping they'll find a happy medium in MyNBA one of these years.

Yeah I get what you were saying. I'm overly optimistic to the point that I hadn't thought they'd allow people to skip levels with VC. But once you said that, I realized that definitely is the type of BS the publishers might want to pursue. Hoping the devs can stave them off.

To the Fortnite point, it's funny but I'd actually prefer if they moved in that direction. For all it's flaws, Fortnite has always been significantly less pay to win than 2K has been (you could argue it's not pay to win at all). This 'battle pass' seems like it could be the first step towards making 2K less pay to win.

That was kinda my point. 2K (or maybe more specifically Take Two) definitely deserves to have it's feet held to fire for some of it's virtual currency practices over the last decade. But a free battle pass (even with the ability to pay to skip levels) is progress for them.

Not to keep it off topic, but even as an offline MyCareer player, I don't really care about the story and interviews. Since 2k18, the story has only lasted until you get to the NBA and never feels like it actually finishes. The post games interviews answers don't really feel like they matter. It's the same team versus brand answers. What I like about the offline MyCareer is the practice and progression system. I like the straightforward single player focused progression system, even though I don't like the Road to 99 and starting at 60 OVR. Past several years I played, I always say I will do a Player Lock, but never do. Even this past year, I said for 2k22, I would do a Player lock if MyCareer offline doesn't improve

I do feel like they should just seperate the online aspect of it from the offline or like you said add some of the offline elements to MyNBA. Most of the online only aren't interested in the story and only want to play the MyCareer games to grind. Even in the W career mode, you start off around a 70 and pretty much progression quickly. I wouldn't mind the grind in MyCareer if I started at 75 OVR with nearly maxed physical ratings from the jump
