Why does our "My Player" have to suck?

Is there a particular reason (other than 2K greediness to make more money off micro transactions) we have to start our my player at a level 60? So tired of this. How about at least bumping the dude up to a 70 with some decent skills that you'd expect from a nationally known prospect who is so good he garners his own dumb nickname?

Ever since the inception of MP, the character has almost always (if not always) started the game as some kind of phenom, yet his rating SUCKS. Honestly its a complete turn off to start off at such a poor rating. "Nationally recognized prospect who is household name and can't even hit an open jumper or drive to the paint for a spectacular lay up".... MP needs a complete overhaul.

And while I'm ranting, can we get an option for a different voice? I'm so sick of creating someone of my likeness (white) who has this obvious urban style voice when speaking. It makes no sense and takes away from the experience. Change it up 2K!!! Dudes bend over backwards to give online players scooters, roller skates and go carts, but the rest of us get jack.

You're gonna be told that 60 overall is more than enough to hit shots, score at the bucket, D up, abuse the CPU, etc etc.

Your stick skills will be questioned and you called a whiner.

But you're 100% right that the starting point for the mode is absurd. The "phenom" who is rated worse than the most random journeyman NBAer in their rookie 2K draft class.

You also answered the question in your first line. So I dunno what to tell you. But I agree

Re: Why does our "My Player" have to suck?

I think the original setup made sense. In 2K10 you were scrambling at the combine just to get drafted then you had to work your way up from the G-League on forward, slowly ascending and improving.

Then when they originally built onto that mode with interview questions and whatnot, you could sort of carve out your own likeness by filling in the blanks. There was no voice, but you could choose to convey yourself as you wish (including, most importantly to me, having the option to quietly go about your business like Tim Duncan).

I think the modern iteration probably still feels compelled to start you at 60 so you're forced to grind as hard as possible—and maybe put in a chunk of change for some extra help—along the way. Even though, yeah, it makes zero sense considering the storyline.

Ya, you're right. I know the answer. Guess I'm hoping people will start complaining and maybe devs will listen a little. You're right about everything you said but the funny thing about people who will say all that, is they also spend $150 on VC to get their MP up to an 80+ rating before even getting started and they'll act like they're just more skilled. Ridiculous.

I think this is essentially correct. I feel MP mode in particular, is designed to find as many ways to make people open up their wallet and spend on VC as much and as soon as possible. One of these ways is by making your player bad at the start in a mode where team mates just can not be relied upon then scolding you via in game commentary and "Your player played badly" type cutscenes when you can't carry your team to a win every game.

Re: Why does our "My Player" have to suck?

I always preferred The One's system over MyCareer, where you start from at least a 70 OVR with your physicals nearly maxed and your progression isn't as strenuous. I wouldn't mind the grind if I were to start out from a 75-80 OvR with near maxed Physicals. Where you have to earn the upside to 80 OVR if you perform well pre-draft. No real person gets that more athletic over time. So, either start from a 75 OVR or at least make the grind from 60-80 OVR a lot faster.

This is something that turns me off from the mode after I get past the initial grind. For me as an offline MyCareer player, the mode becomes so much about the grind to get your player maxed and all badges, that once I get to a good point, I lose interest. I don't have ample time to play games each day. Heck, my time to play games is very limited since having a toddler. So, what one can do in 1-2 weeks, it might take me a month plus. So, I don't want to spend my limited time grinding and don't want to fork out $50+ to shortcut it.

But that won't change anytime soon. There's so many that are willing to spend $50+ on multiple builds every year. I'm not trying to spend more than I paid for the game. Heck, I'm waiting until Black Friday to get the game in case there is a sale on next gen. I'm offline only, so I'm not trying to spend $20-30 extra just to get my player to an 80

Yeah, I'm done with it. $70 for the game. Another $30 for VC just to put my player at a 74 and he still absolutely sucks worse than the 9th man off any bench. Meanwhile a few college players are torching me like they're "MP"....So fkn dumb. At this point I'd rather just create a player and play MyNBA...but oh wait, the broadcast cam is still missing so thats not happening yet....

Yeah I put my career down in favor of position lock MyNBA. It’s just a much better experience IMO. I can just focus on the basketball aspect of building my player up. The progression is much more realistic as well. May take you 4 seasons to develop into a star.

Downsides are that there’s no face scan, also no story. However, if you can go without those things then it’s a major go.

I might be one of the few people here that doesn't mind starting at 60. In fact I'd actually like to go back to the 2k10-2k11 days when you started at 40.

People bring up that your player is supposedly the next big thing but that's any player that's coming out of High School they're all 99s in High School once they go to college or decide to go pro early you're not playing against high school kids no more and gotta prove you got it by playing against a higher level of competition. So that 99 is actually a 60. That's how I see it anyway.

The NBA is the highest level one can reach.

You got to proof yourself there first before getting the credit.

Putting together a HOF career is a grind.

Being good in college or high school has never been a guaranteed that you will have the same succes in the nba.

Never was and never will be.

Also to be fair the grind has been lessen alot this year.

Heck you can get the gymrat badge in 2 hours and the mamba mentality badge after playing 4 games lol

Most "superstars" in recent NBA 2Ks have had OVR in the 70s. The lowest I can find is Giannis at 60, Jokic 68OVR, Steph at 69OVR, the rest are in the 70s.

                          KD 80OVR, Lebron 78OVR, DWade 74, Steph Curry 69OVR, Luka 79OVR, Devin Booker 72OVR...

If you're a HS or college phenom, I don't think starting in the 70s is a bad idea.
