I Love The Post Game This Year

Body blocks are realistic to me. They made the ball live in the post game and that is huge. It has cut down on the constant pumpfaking under the rim, and prevented guys from using the ball to move defenders out of the way on post moves.

The post defense is superb this year. You can actually stop drop steps, and shade the post player to one side or the other. Also when they expose the ball it is live and you can knock it out. Huge improvement.

    Same here

Idk how one persons game is different from another. I could literally show gameplay of what inside “hands up” (meaning just right stick contesting) has done in every game mode which is essentially nothing. And like I said, a YouTuber who has made his living off of 2K videos and tutorials even said that right stick contests do not affect close shots.

So like I said, it’s probably not quite doing what you think it’s doing.

Can’t speak for you or Sam. But I have tons of videos were my hands up contests are causing misses around the rim. It’s doing what I think it is for me. So either you aren’t seeing what you think or we are having different experiences.

Are you talking about Sam Pham's defensive tutorial? He mentioned RS defense off hand as not being as effective but he didn't present it as a 2KLabs tested theory.

In fact, in actual 2K labs tests on finishing badges, you can see the % of contest go up when in the hands up stance.

I don’t have a clue off the top of my head where or when he said it. I specifically remember him saying RS Contest does not affect inside shots. Which is something I have seen all year as true.

Now, that may be different with certain badges or against certain builds. Like a PG going up inside against a center, I’m sure a RS contest is all you need. But even in post vs. post matchups, right stick contests are very ineffective whereas jump contests work almost every time if you time it up with the shot.

It’s 2021. These consoles come with built in recorders. So video or it didn’t happen

Is it not virtually the same as it’s been over the years? Like what’s different outside of shooting percentages?

The shooting percentages like you said, lol. I haven't had a chance to play MyPlayer yet, but in NBA 2K20 I felt like I was "forced" to pass the ball out when I secured an offensive rebound. I feel like I was still beasting, but I could have REALLY beasting if I didn't miss so many bunnies at the rim.

Re: I Love The Post Game This Year

Hands up defense pretty much depends on the badges and the height.

So yeah it could vary from being effective to being useless.

A 7’3 can get away with hands up defense against smaller players unless they have like grace under presse on hof, given the big does not hof intimidator.

If you have a smaller player then your hands up defense is going to be useless against that 7’3 if he has mouse in the house even if you have intimidator.

Also with hands up defense alot of users reset as the only move they have is a pumpfake in the hopes of a player jumping lol.

My advice would be hands up defense until they actually try a shot and then go for the block.

You will some and you will loose some, but that is what makes it fun.

I think it works because the fade/hook can hit is you don't contest. Defender use to be able to just stand they and it would be a heavily contested shot. I'm happy with what they did.

The face game up opens it up too.

People also bite, because blocks are so damn satisfying when they happen. Admittedly, I bite on fakes more than I should, because I'm trying to go for that home run block and send it into the stands or smash it against the backboard.

When I finally create my Shaq-like MyPlayer, I'm going to be talking cash money trash when I block shots, lol.

Can you post some videos of your post defense, I’m no good in the post as far as defense goes. Could use the help.

I’m kinda with Coach on this one, seems like they just turned up the percentages in the post. Literally anyone can score in the post. Or it could just be me, but I’m open to some tutorial videos.

From a defensive point of view. Who the post defender is DAMN IMPORTANT. I've played with Rudy Gobert vs AD a few times a day this week alone. When I have KD on AD. It only can last for so long. I usually have to double him. AD can score on Rudy. But it's different. Rudy can recover on almost any mistake you make [emoji23]. I haven't seen anyone use the post up game really. The most I see people doing is just backing down with AD until close to the paint and then going straight up. I've enjoyed it.

Pressing left stick into the defender can be death if the person is doing drop steps.

I can try to put a couple of clips together over the next couple of days. Won’t be anything too crazy as I don’t have time for that lol.

I see people talking about blocks and biting on shot fakes. The reason for this is similar to what I’ve been saying. Contesting isn’t doing anything, so people have to jump to contest. The negative to that is that the margin for error is basically non existent. If you jump too early, they score. If you don’t jump at all, they score. If you right stick contest, they score. If you time your jump correctly, it’s a miss.

Some people say “Well it’s like that in real life. If you bite on a pump fake they’ll score.” Well, not really. You can extend your arms horizontally and impact a shot. You can rip down and hope to strip it. Or even a simple vertical contest will affect it at least some.

Now, I don’t expect all of this to be emulated in game, but that’s why RS contest has to have more effect in my opinion. I definitely would love for someone to do a deep dive into how ratings and badges affect RS contest inside.

I'll definitely follow up with video. I'm in there all the time vs. all kinds if builds...

Hands up is a viable option in some cases.

Stripping the ball when players overuse the dropstep (and they overuse it a lot) is useful

Jumping is the most effective contest but it's risk and reward.

Last thing we need is to go back to is 2K21 where the most you had to think as far as post defense was LT + RS

I guess you could make a case that post mismatches can be too easy to exploit...but forcing a double or help is. basketball. I'll take it over Middletin locking down Joel because he has Clamps. Let the bigs get some love too, lol
