This brings to light an issue I have in that OVR weighs way too heavily on rotation minutes. You can force someone into the starting lineup but I wish there was a way to force someone who is rated lower into the rotation.

Like how D'Antoni used to always play Steve Novak or how somehow Trenton Hassell used to get minutes for the Nets even though they were clearly not overall better than the people who they played in front of.

Force Non-Starter feature should be expanded to include: "Force In Rotation" and "Force-Starter."

That way we wouldn't have to micromanage overalls so much by adjusting that silly intangible rating.

The primary function of OVR in 2K is to affect rotations & depth charts. Most people have it in their heads that it's a measurement of an individuals skill/talent, but that is not how it works in a team roster setting.

There is literally an attribute (Intangibles) whose ONLY in-game function is to adjust the OVR. So yes, we can have a discussion about various skills being undervalued for a player, but it also isn't necessary when determining a player's value to their team.

        Rashid secondary account confirmed.

Haven't we been doing this for years at this point. You explain something to me. I know already. I know the reason we have overall [emoji23]. I'm not hanging around here for my health lol.

Just want to say to keep this in mind specifically about Duarte, here's the pregame report:

"The Pacers have a lengthy injury report with Caris LeVert and T.J. Warren both out for the foreseeable future. Malcolm Brogdon is listed as probable while Jeremy Lamb and Justin Holiday are both listed as questionable."

So yes, he played a lot this first game - but that was without two of their starters and two hobbled wing rotational players. I don't think the first game is a tell-tale sign.

As mentioned in the video, him playing well will earn him the consistent PT. It's worth noting he's also an old rookie ala Cam Johnson. He's the most NBA ready player of any drafted this year - his performance isn't a fluke.

T.J. Warren has also been out for a year and doesn't have a time table. He isn't really a factor in Pacers rotation evaluations (and is unlikely to be a starter when he returns - more likely a Melo type PF bench role).

Here is something I really really wish 2K could look into. Stephen Curry. I know I know ... What do we change about that beast? Lol. This should of been added years ago. But Curry should have HOF off ball badge at this point in his career. I mean the dude is motion himself.

That isn't a realistic goal. There have already been 16 games played league-wide (13 hours), with 10 more (8 hours) coming tonight. I search out highlights where necessary.

Most of my consumed basketball over the last 5 years happens in the post-mortem. Watching live games (commercials, stoppages, etc) is extremely inefficient towards my ends.

You know who needs a boost already after only 2 games. Davon Mitchell, he's already caused more veteran scorers problems. Then players do in their whole careers. Ok I'm completely kidding.

No, you’re right! It was obvious watching him in college and summer league but I watched both Kings games and he gave Lillard and Donavan Mitchell fits! Plus getting tons of time and finished game last night. His defense out of box was super low iirc.

Can I make a small suggestion? I know your aiming for a certain audience (pretty much us OS/Roster ratings guys). Maybe you should do bullet points. An hour is a long time. But if you don't care. Then so be it. My bad.

This is where Rashid and I are completely different. I'm an eye test guy vs he's more analytical. I watch waaaay more games then I'd like to admit.

Im the same way. I trust my eyes, film study, and scouting. Numbers don’t tell the whole story. It might give you the percentages but not the intangibles. The roll players play, how they fit in system, aggressiveness, how they are being used, etc…

But room for both analytics and eye test is the ultimate best results.

I had approximately 90 bullet points in those 58 minutes.

I definitely don't want to run on for an hour most of the time; that will cut down as the season moves forward. There is A LOT to cover in the early going but by game 10-20 teams & players will have settled in.

I consider this series a daily podcast w/ a visual aid. The target time is 20-30 mins depending on how much there is to cover. Some of the inefficiency is simply me getting better at broadcasting, getting a feel for tempo, when to move on, when I'm beating a dead horse, etc. I have no doubt as I get deeper into this 60 minutes will turn into 50 and then 40.

I know that the average NBA fan doesn't care that the Wizards bench is much improved, they care more about Bradley Beal not playing rather than how capable Raul Neto is at replacing his scoring. The 2K Roster itself already has the casual audience covered. I'm going to give more focus to role players because those are the players who are easily the most neglected, and who have the most rating movement. The top 3 guys on teams are locked in (esp w/ the way the cap is structured today), and it's pretty obvious when a player moves in and out of that tier. There's a lot more shuffling of the deck in slots 4-12. My attention to those players is ultimately how I made my mark as a 2K content creator.

I started editing rosters in NBA 2K3 (my first 2K game) because I was a Knicks fan and the roster was incomprehensibly terrible.
                                1. Howard Eisley was the Knicks STARTING PG and was the 3rd lowest rated PG in the game.
                                2. Shandon Anderson was the team's 7th man and was the 2nd lowest rated SG in the game.
                                3. Michael Doleac was a mid-range specialist, literally the only thing he could do on the court, and had a 25 mid-range rating (as well as an OVR that didn't reflect his role as the backup C / 9th man).

This is where my focus will always default to, because it's where 2K has traditionally struggled over the past 20 years.

I'm an eye test guy vs he's more analytical.
The vast majority of 2K's attributes, badges, and tendencies are done analytically, FWIW. Streamlining is the only way one can keep up w/ 82 games and 500-600 players. I watch content where necessary (Scouting reports on drafted players is the most important - it's developing a formative base for that player in one's mind).

In prepping for this video I had Knicks/Magic, Sixers/Nets, and Lakers/Suns running in the background. I also made sure to watch:

                                <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/IW3IQWBBtoY" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

                                and:
                                <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Nuc0CQr9VMU" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

as I figured these were the most important games/players from a pure roster perspective.

I probably LISTEN to more basketball now, as Podcasts are something I can easily tune into while I'm commuting, or working on roster related stuffs (Highly recommend Dunc'd On, or Hollinger & Duncan).

                                Additionally:
2K also isn't built in a way that you really get paid off for using the "eye test". 2K defense is nowhere close to what is being played in reality right now. The more "realistic" one tries to make the game, the worse it plays, because the coding ain't ready for it.

I'm not saying watching basketball isn't effective at increasing one's knowledge of the game, more so that it's not the right tool for this particular job. Eye test is super important for a developer; they need to figure out how to code concepts into the game. Most actual roster work is about tightening the bolts on the machine we've been provided.
