your lakers video is a Punch wing tri but not the 90 cut 32 dive because Pau didn't go in the corner before the cut.

I have an example for Wennington of your 90 cut 32 dive but it was extremely rare.

I have another clip somewhere but this is not PUNCH 3 WING TRI or PUNCH 3 WING TRI 2. Neither of those plays have a double screen on the weakside and both of them start with a wing dribble entry unlike this one. So those plays can’t be called for a player that is not a play initiator (most non-guards) using positional playcalling. You would have to use the favorite play menu to assign it to Pau.

I don't see the doulbe screen... only Bynum make the screen for Pau.
Secondly, on top spot, it is not a PF like in your scheme but Kobe and after he passes to Artest.
+, you can create the wing dribble entry before calling the play.
But yes i discovered that recently, Longley don't have the punch 3 Wing Tri because he is not a player initiator.

Same thing if you want to make a pick of Jordan with the Fist 25 Base tri, he is not able to do it. I remember on 2k18, in the beginning of the game you could do it for Jordan and after a patch you couldn't.

I remember i was able to make the punch 3 wing tri for Levingston... I need to verify.

A nice backdoor play that I’ve seen ran with either a strong side fill or using other positions to fill the corner.

To come back to the Punch 3 Wing Tri for Pau Gasol, i did it for Grant in freelance offense because Punch3Wingtri is a free lance triangle.
So it is possible for Pau Gasol.

02 Cut 32 dive Swing the problme is still the same, John paxson shouldn't go in the corner, and PF be on top of the paint so it is not a triangle.

The only one is really the Punch3Wing tri.

[emoji23] I literally said the following:

                  “…EITHER…OR…”

This means I know that Paxson doesn’t fill the corner in the real nba footage I posted. Grant does.

This is also different than Punch 3 Wing TRI because 02 CUT 32 DIVE SWING uses a backdoor cut and not a curl cut over the top.

Also, the freelance triangle action you’re referring to for Grant/Gasol doesn’t always trigger a cut to the post after they make the pass to the top of the key. 90% of the time they’ll pass to the top and set a screen for the man in the corner.

The point in me posting these is mostly to show folks what counters are currently in the game at their disposal. So telling me that spacing is off on this play or that play doesn’t correct it in the game. Remember I’m not a Developer. But I appreciate your input overall.

I’ve been watching a lot of the 1994 ECSF matchup of the Bulls vs Knicks. I remember watching this live as a kid but I didn’t realize how much the Bulls tweaked their lineups and alignments without MJ on the roster.

Against the Knicks I saw a ton of sets that favor the swing and slice motion offenses a lot. These were sets where you would have the non-shooting bigs like Cartwright, Longley, and Scott Williams camp out above the 3pt line (corner, top, and wing spots). I suspect this was done to get the Knicks bigs out of the paint using the pre-illegal defense rules to their advantage.

This is just a reminder that the triangle is just a format that you can run any plays out of. There’s way more freedom that people admit.

That's saying a lot, since I create a playbook for my MyWNBA franchise. I run plays inspired by the Bulls of the 1990s and the Lakers of the 2000s. Good stuff.

Good to hear. When next gen first launched with 2K21, I spent most of the first few months playing myWNBA mode and did the same with the Aces who were running a lot of triangle options in the half court and in semi-transition. Ironically, their coach was Bill Lambert of all people, a Pistons player notoriously hated by 90s Bulls fans everywhere.

I don’t think I made a post about this one but it should be in all triangle playbooks. It’s a flex variation of the blind pig that every team coached by Phil ran from 1990 to 2011. It’s a nice way to get your post player the ball without as many double team threats. Try it in tandem with some the other blind pig counters and variations in the game.

These will also look even better in 2K24 when all 5 players will (eventually) be able to occupy each position in the freelance again.

So are all the plays on the first page pretty much what needs to be added to the classic bulls playbook?

The playbooks in 2K23 only 60 plays. We have way more than 60 plays to chose from. There are some essential plays that need to be in all triangle playbooks but then there are era specific plays. For instance, we have video evidence of Phil opening up the playbook for Kobe and letting them run zipper, motion weak, and a ton of spread pick a roll compared to Micheal’s teams. So just make sure you have a mix of base triangle plays, pressure releases,”specials” like UCLA high post sets and guard dribble series, and counters.

I said I’d make a playbook for each Jordan challenge game under Phil but I just didn’t have time and having to manually add plays each time a challenge started was a pain.
