How well did they recover back to the three-point line in kickout situations?

Depended on where help came from, but not very fast. Although I did have a few fast ones running & jumping to contest that looked good

BTW on CG i also like the under player name fonts a lot too visually.

FTs are definitely more difficult. Kind of annoying actually, lol

I won’t complain about it though.

            Just gotta lock in.

During that time, the shots always felt delayed to me when transitioning into the shot from whatever dribbling or spot up situation when using the shot stick. I guess most people didn't notice it, but I could. I want to say that the delay happened during that grey area where the game is trying to determine if your stick input is for a dribble move or for an actual jumper.
Oh good to here. And thanks for the answer. Yeah, the delay was the reason I didn’t use the shot stick as well. Glad to hear they cleaned that up

lol One thing I’m really excited about, making those early 2000s Hawks a powerhouse. Hope they have JET, Shareef and Big Dog all in too

Haven't played 2k since 2k18 or 19. Very excited to get this year's game on the ps5. Love the impressions so far! Seems like the help defense may be weak but nothing the help defense slider won't solve. Am I correct to assume this? PnR defense sounds amazing, and the fact there are fouls called without having to raise the foul sliders to max really has me excited to play.

Can't wait to play the Era mode. Will I be able to take the 92-93 Suns and play a franchise with them? I know I'll have to get a Barkley CAP. Are draft classes able to be created for the era mode? Or are the auto generated full with real life players who were drafted say in 1993?

Yes you can play as the Suns

You can use custom draft classes or the classes 2K provides

The draft results won’t be the same, it’s your universe you create

I did watch a video earlier where the Magic ended up with the first pick and took Shaq again. So, sometimes things do align the way they did IRL

                        Re: NBA 2K23 Early Impressions

LMAO.. I just got absolutely posterized by Jayson Tatum on the fast break, and I shoved him down to the floor, and he just looked to the refs for a foul/tech. That was slick.

First impressions... is that I suck at 2k anymore. With that said, I'm still having fun as it stands. Shooting, timing feels WAY different than years past, granted I haven't played a lot. Control feels a lot better right now. Free throws, I finally hit one with Garland after missing my first 6-7 with the Cavs, haha. I'm getting to the line, as is the CPU quite a bit.

                        The poster dunk was nasty.

The trip to New Zealand was well worth it.

The more you do the more the system "should" adjust. Like all things this is year one so it will have things it misses or adjustments that may not be 100% effective in changing user behavior.

So we are not bringing the house on drives and stuff until we see oh you can drive and score.

Also the game was tuned for FUN. not simply difficulty. We don't have enough tools to make it difficult without the AI just straight cheesing you. I think you remember what that felt like and I know some of you hated that.

So for some of you the game just won't be difficult enough so you will need to make adjustments. That is the trade-off for now.

We have on ball defensive delay on the the AI. This gives them more human reaction times. This is not tuned overly tight. I could tighten that up and your lanes and drives would get much harder but that is not always fun getting stone-walled.

That is why with faster players like Jordan when you start from a stand the drives seem too easy for some of you. Because we don't have the Ai anticipating your drives he is waiting and reacting and then with the new body-up tuning and data you have a more open game.

In current era we want drives and free flowing offense. You want more body-ups play in era's with hand-checks and increased body-ups.

PS. Just wanted to mention that the delay is scaled based on defensive ratings but not game difficulty. Also and offensive player with clamp breaker vs a defender without clamps is basically an open door some drives you are getting vs poor defenders will not have the same outcomes as vs great on-ball defenders so who is guarding you, will also make a difference.

Great insight Czar, much appreciated! I think I speak for everyone when I say we would LOVE a spreadsheet or blog or any other format that breaks down things like this when it pertains to ratings, tendencies, sliders, and difficulty settings. Just some kind of official resource to spell out things like how you described defenders reacting to drives from a stand-still would be an absolute god-send to the community (and you better be getting paid an additional salary for being our unofficial community manager [emoji28]).

Love it every time you drop some knowledge on the inner workings of the engine.

Thank you for making the AI delay based off of ratings. Once the help defense sliders are tuned for the cpu teams we will be closer to realistic. Drive and kick here we come.

Defenders have a delay stuck in mud reaction at times which leaves a player well past them. I upped the cpu on ball up to 90 and 100 in body up sensitivity as well as up to 85 in lateral quickness and I’m still beating Jrue Holiday & Kyle Lowry pretty easy on HOF. The open window/cone can allow it with less contact so I don’t think that will lead to over the top brick walls at all. The explosiveness of the offense is great so the delay defensively isn’t needed as much. Just my .02

Great to know. I played a few play now games before and after seeing this post and after editing each teams help defense slider its night and day. Help was coming super fast. Slider seems sensitive this year which is great! Thanks! I think these two tuning things will change the easy drives. The pnr is great though! Hedge defender really stepping up to contain & stopping the ball on the drop coverage. I’ve had some really nice snake dribbles for some sweet mid range pulls with Chris Paul.

Whoa, so are you saying you can edit each team’s Help Defense setting in the coach profile from the roster menu? The last few years you could only edit that in-game for Play Now (and it would reset after every game lol) or in the menu in MyNBA, but the setting was strangely missing from the roster menu outside of MyNBA.

Just a side note.. changed the camera angle, I'm playing much better now lol. You can definitely get some space and the defenders aren't SO sticky this year, which is stellar. I'm finding help defense rotate really well so far, but I'm able to get free for mid range jumpers and 3's with some consistency, but I stink at shooting as it stands. Game is feeling really nice out of the box.
