That touches on my bigger issue with myCareer. There is a distinct lack of content relating to your actual NBA career. The VC thing isn't too big to me normally. I'll buy VC but also since I'm mostly a myLeague/myNBA player my VC tends to stack up playing that.

What turns me off from MC is all the city stuff or story stuff. I think my favorite myCareer was way back when they had real NBA vets record lines and each team had a mentor. It was hit or miss because some players just have no skill at voice acting, but if you had a decent one on your team (I had Channing Frye) it was a pretty good experience. Now though there is way too much of a focus on the non-basketball stuff. I don't want a mode where I'm a social media influencer, rapper, or fashion guru. I just want to be a basketball player. Throw in the online aspect and the whole City thing where our immersion is constantly disrupted by dudes with purple mohawks and looking like little kids whose parents made the mistake of letting them pick their own outfits and I just can't get into it.

best storyline they could do is hire a real NBA player to be your "teammate/rival/mentor/etc" and have you stuck on a team (let's say the Cavs or something) for at least 15-20 games and you get a full experience. And at that point you can either continue with the team or get traded.

But all this is just them finding ways to get more VC

MyCareer was never my main mode but there was a time where I would still put in dozens of hours a year playing it. 2k18 soured me on the mode and I've barely played it since.

If it weren't for the new MyEra stuff I wouldn't even have this game right now.

Yeah and when I log in to play 2K online there's a boatload of 70's and 80's overall and it takes just a few games to learn the gameplay and I already have enough VC to jump to a 75ovr and game with them lol. We're not going up against 90+'s teams filled with all badges at an exponential rate. There's LOADS of 70's and 80's running games across the various different online modes tied to the MyCareer.

The comparison of "I immediately have to spend $100 or play 100 hours just to 'COMPETE'" is ridiculously overblown.

I'm not defending it, microtransactions are egregious anddo need to be regulated somehow, somewhat, in some way. But if we're going to blow 2K's online experience out of proportion we can do the same with a litany of other online yearly releases as well.

I have finally reached 80 ovr and I agree. The microtransactions are a bit overblown just play the game, grind, don't waste any VC on useless clothes yet, and you will get to 90+ eventually. The quests actually give some decent free clothes this year that can hold you over. Everybody just wants to get to 99 from day one and that's a bit unrealisitc unless you pay for it. Some people just need to learn patience.

Now I will say as you reach higher levels things do get expensive and that's where the problem is. I remember last year in 2k22 it took me like 100K VC to get from 98 to 99 I think. Apparently this year it's even worse.

Some of the park matchups with devin booker and Jcole reminded me of 2ks old 24/7 mode. Although I can do without the runway modelling, rapping and the main guy coming off like an emotional lesbian.

Those guys are the problem. I went without buying vc for 2k18-19 but what they do? Buy multiple characters and gamble on my team packs. Instead of whining they should speak with their wallets.

I do the daily quests (and story quests) and play a few NBA games in MyCareer a day. I have not spent any money on VC. I am currently at level 80.

I am 40k VC away from getting my character to level 88 if I level up passing and 3pt shooting.

The grind does not seem bad so far. If I wanted to buy clothes/shoes, then it would be a different story.

Either spend $250 on league pass and $70 on 2K ($320)... or spend $70 on 2K and $100 on league pass because they lowered it to $100 this year ($170)... or spend $100 on 2K and get league pass FREE ($100 +100,000VC on top of it).

It's a m************ bargain if you actually watch hoops and enjoy the game.

Let alone by doing that you basically start as an 80ovr in your MyCareer, or again, you play a few games for a few days and you're an 80ovr anyway. Then use whatever other VC you get from trivia, 2ktv, myera, myteam, play now, playnow online, quests, 2k daily spin, etc. and move on up easily from there.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it yet, but you can sim the first season in MC and you'll get a new contract in your second year where you get 1k vc just for playing the game. Then you add on the vc you earn throughout the game.

I skipped 2k23, but I want to say no. I do think that will change in 2k24. I know they already had the slogan saying how MyCareer will be more streamlined. Which for me, suggests more of a focus on actually playing games and optional side quests. I didn't like in 2k22 where you couldn't advance to certain games until you did the side quests.

It's ashame for me because I have 2k23 off of the PS Plus monthly games, but I don't want to deal with the side quests and the bad teammate AI.

For me, I did all the quests in 2k22. Even though I didn't care for Fashion and Rap career, but it was a great way to farm VC. I'm not trying to spend money on VC. Doing the quests really helped speed up leveling up my player. But at the same time, those quests shouldn't overshadow the purpose of the mode, which is to play games. I'm an offline gamer, I'm just trying to hoop. I don't have ample time to play games. I don't have hours in a day, I'm lucky to have hours in a week. So, I don't want to be required to do quests to advance to the next game.

For me, if they can truly streamline MyCareer and get back to basics, I'll return to MyCareer. They can keep the side quests, just not make it a requirement. If it's worthwhile for farming VC, I want to do it on my time.
