I'm 42, and this is the most fun I have had playing a video game since I was creating Garnett in Live 96. Nostalgia is huge for me and this MyNBA Eras is the best thing to happen in sports gaming for me ever.

Like you, I am struggling to concentrate on just one Era and just one team. I am 48 games into the 91-92 season with the Cavs, but I am already looking ahead to 95-96 when the Grizzlies come into the league. I am trying not to get ahead of myself and jump to simulating and controlling everything to get 95-96 exactly like it was to start that real season.

And I cannot help but also think ahead to 2002 when I would have been a rookie. Why I never got invited to the Portsmouth Invitational or heard my name called on Draft Night still confuses me.

        48yrs old.
Best NBA game since 2k11. Arguably best NBA game ever. The way it plays and how responsive it is to editing and customisation makes it THE game for me.
I haven't played any era franchises.
I'm a roster editing nerd and purist and don't like silly cpu trades, decisions etc.....
Instead I have utilised the decades of rosters to find and import the players into my own Superleague roster. Edit them to fit my roster type and play a season with it.

The roster I have created on PS5 is literally for us old heads.
It's the Jordan, Kobe and modern roster combined.
10 man teams, painstakingly edited so these teams play legit if this was a reality.

If you are on the PS5 and would be keen to play a 1 off season. (Roster not designed for ongoing franchise) with no injuries. You will have a great time taking your favourite team and trying to win a title with them.

        Enough self promotion.....

        Yeah.. great game...love the nostalgia.
Also great to see the old time OG NBA gamers come out in this thread.

I did the same. Created my own superleague world, highly edited and tweaked with more variance and real to life accessories, tendencies, and signatures. Even found ways to override 2K not letting you give certain players their own sigs who didn’t come with them (solution is to go offline then they become accessible). A mix of players from the beginning of basketball to today. Teams are stacked like all time teams but also balanced so it isn’t just super high rated players everywhere, still bench warmers there from today and who we remember from yesterday, etc. Only very few players had to be put on teams they never played for, for balance sake. If anyone wants to use it, it’s any of the rosters under user name Dwide Shrude907 (Xbox).

I’ve been painstakingly making these rosters since 2K21. But it hits WAY different in 2K23. The level of care and detail they gave the classics is crazy. This game feels like classic players and gameplay are the stars. Which in itself is a dream come true.

Im playing with My beloved Sonics in my Superleague.

            This is the team.

            PAYTON
            RAY ALLEN
            RASHARD LEWIS
            KEMP
            MICHAEL CAGE
            SCHREMPF
            MCKIE
            BIG SMOOTH PERKINS
            BRENT BARRY
            MCMILLAN.

Loaded with shooters, giving the Kemp Payton 2 man game some space to dominate but severley lacking interior defense and size. So I gotta play fast, trapping defense and live and die by the 3. It also helps that Kemp and Cage are elite offensive rebounders.
Its a real challenge. Currently I am 5-3 which is a good considering. I started playing the Grizzlies in my last game, but was not in the right headspace and after a quarter and a half, I quit as I was down 20. The Grit and Grind grizzlies with Morant and Bane were wrecking me.

This Sonic team also highlights just how incompetent Seattle management was at getting decent bigmen from the 90s. I mean Poor Michael Cage. he is a PF. but has to battle the Ewings, Olajuwons, Embiids and Jokics of this roster. lol.

41 years old here. Transported current Warriors to the 80s. Led the league in 3s made, attempted, and percentage then went to the West Finals to face the Lakers and got swept because of Kareem's 20+rpg. Loon, Draymond, and Wiseman can't handle cap!

Started a new one where I'm using 90s Celtics, traded Reggie Lewis and a bunch of draft picks to Milwaukee since they have the 1st pick and got Shaq! Now game 5 of my first round series against the Knicks where Shaq and Ewing are going at it every game! Monster game after monster game!

Might jump to Kobe era after the 93 season (hopefully get a final ring for Bird).

Wow, didn't expect this much response to this thread! It's cool to see fellow 'old heads' out there still playing and having the same experience as I am.

Something I forgot to mention at the top (another immersion factor), I love how players just seem to have era specific dribble moves and dunks. I notice this a lot playing with my '83 Sixers team with Doc and Moses Malone. I am sure 2K may have done this for a while, but for some reason, it is just really standing out even more to me in this game. I don't know, maybe its the era camera filter or maybe its just in my head lol.

It's just a blast playing out old rivalries and careers of guys that we once looked up to VS what we have become used to in playing out the careers of players that are basically kids to us.

As someone who grew up watching all of these eras play out, I cannot get over how good the immersion factor is with each individual era. They definitely all play differently, and (almost) how I expect them to play in that era.

Started a Magic Bird Era franchise with the Sixers led by Doc and Malone (this was the first basketball team I fell in love with as a kid at 7 years old lol)...and just knowing the teams how I know them from watching old film and stories, etc...The thought of getting Doc and Malone another championship through Magic, Bird, a young MJ, Ice Man....I recently watched an old video on youtube (NB80's that reminded me all about this era all over again).
Also started a Jordan Era Sonics/ Sixers franchise, doing a 'what-if' the sonics just never left Seattle and Barkley never leaving the Sixers.....Going through most of my formative years in the 90's and I'm just reliving all of the best jerseys and rivalries the league has ever seen.

....and of course started a Kobe Era Sixers Franchise trying to get AI a ring and make sure he never leaves Philly!

The difference in the style of play is really evident playing in these eras...and although probably not good for my eyes, the era-specific camera filters really add to the immersion. I honestly can't get over how fun all of this is and its something I can't even imagine having as a kid being such a huge NBA fan lol....in that sense, i consider myself lucky because I would not have done anything with my life but play video games! LMAO

I haven't even touched the Jordan Challenge or even had a thought of starting a Current Era Franchise (which is the only mode I normally play with each 2K purchase).

Just want to give a big shout-out to all of the 2K team for making a hell of a game and also the community roster creators for all their work on filling out the myera rosters.
Im 48 and feel the same way. I've been chasing this feeling playing sports games for awhile. Now if I could get my old high school buddies in my basement with a few beers and some couch play, I'd be in heaven.

I'm 43 and it's hitting all the same feelings for me. I've been bouncing back about how to tackle my main league. I play the short seasons to knock out as many years as possible and with NBA stats being per game the stats work out great for this. Magic Johnson is my favorite player so at first I was set on running an '83-84 run going thru his young prime 'til retirement. When I started my Bird/Magic era it became clear that era was just a tick before my time and it had me longing for more of a late-80's feel.

So what I've decided for my main league is using the Jordan era, but I'm dialing back the ages of the 80's legends. So for Magic I took the DNA of the '87 Magic. So Magic is 27 and it makes me happy that he's gonna get about 10 more seasons and intersect with the late-90's guys. Speaking of, I'm pretty stoked at the prospect of having a Laker team around 96-97 with a 34-35 year old Magic, 26-27 year old Shaq and 18 year old Kobe. I also make it a practice of stacking rival cpu teams to have other teams to fight it out with for titles.

I've also decided to keep the Lakers in the Forum and specifically the Great Western Forum and I will definitely be keeping them in the Showtime era uniforms for this entire run. I plan on doing this for other teams as well....I haven't decided yet but I may also keep the Bulls in the Chicago Stadium. The Bulls, Celtics are among the handful of teams I plan on stacking for my main league. I'm also intrigued in keeping the Hornets in Charlotte and I might even bolster that core of Larry Johnson and Mouring and see how they play out.

Playing like this really makes it fun and offers endless possibilities. I'm envisioning in the early window of this league having battles with the MJ's Bulls and Larry's Celtics....Kinda the perfect combining of the 80's and 90's. It'll also be cool seeing if any other teams I don't stack crop up.

There are just so many ways to play this year's game using MYEras and that is what makes this a masterpiece to me. I just finished watching the Redeem Team on Netflix and it got me thinking of the Kobe Era and how there were truly so many great players at that time coming into their own. And this is what I am talking about with my first post....I was all wrapped up in the Magic Bird Era with my '83 Sixers, but now I am dying to take a deep dive in the Kobe Era and try to get AI that elusive championship ring in Philly. But have to do it before the up and coming stars take over the league in a couple of years with Lebron, Wade, and Melo!!

Im a big NBA guy, like art guy… to the point I can take a look at a picture from the 90s at a Bulls Game and could tell you what NBA Year it is based on the little details. This mode is amazing.. like the presentation and all.

I grew up in Chicago so of course playing with Jordan and the Bulls are my thing but seeing the jersey changes, the court updates, the rule changes just makes my heart smile man.. it really does. I literally play every season for like two weeks, snapping hella pics.. doing trades to mirror real life.. making interesting scenarios with random CAPs…I go and use College Hoops 2k8 to throw in some Rooks as well into the draft. I make sure that all the winners of the Finals win… along with the people that play against them lose in the Finals.. and the immersion has just been sweet.

For the missing courts/jerseys? Created them, so I’m not missing a beat at all.. currently in year 1994-95 in the Conference Finals in both conferences.. Houston V Orlando, lets go

Same as OP, struggled to find a franchise to settle down with. I’m 34 so I’m not an “old” head but an “older” head.

I’ve always been a fan of players more than teams and missed the hype of the Jordan Era when I was younger. I was a big hockey kid throughout my early childhood and picked up hoops fandom in like ‘99.

First started out with a Kobe Era player locked franchise with the Cavs and Lebron. Then started one with a player locked franchise with the Sixers and AI.

Then moved to a current era franchise with the Spurs but about 15 games in I missed the thought of all the draft classes that I remembered and building out an alternate reality so I took my created player PG and stuck him on the Blazers in the Kobe Era. I put a bunch of other players I liked during that time along with some guys I felt were “Blazer” guys in that era and I think I found my long term home. The only thing I struggle with now is playing all the games and not looking too far ahead. There’s just so many different draft classes I can’t wait to get to.

                            PG - Created PG
                            SG - Corey Maggette
                            SF - Latrell Spreewell
                            PF - Jermaine O’Neal
                            C - Zach Randolph

                            PG - Tyronn Lue
                            SG - Quinton Richardson
                            SF - Al Harrington
                            PF - Stromile Swift
                            C - Chris Anderson

Like 7-3 so far, 4th in the West. The Kings have beaten me twice, Peja is an absolute sniper.

COMPLETELY understand about being wrapped in one and then wanting to go to another - I think I’ve come down to 4 teams to choose from for the start of my 83-84 season:

                              1. Hawks
                              2. Knicks
                              3. Spurs
                              4. Bulls

I am most likely going to go with this type of formula for myself in my franchise - I don’t want to complete go fantasy - so I am going to pick 5 players from each draft and put them on their originally drafted teams and the rest of the picks will be fantasy style. Now - for instance - If Chicago were to win the Championship in 83-84 (Highly Unlikely) then what I am planning on doing is trading their pick and the following year’s 1st round pick to be able to move up to whatever spot (team) to be able to make the selection for Jordan. This way - the top team doesn’t completely lose out by gaining an extra 1st round pick. Now if they were to have the 6th pick and they need to move up to #1 then I would swap the picks and then add in an extra 2nd round for that year’s draft. I think this strategy will keep me engaged with the having realistic plus some fantasy value added to it. REALLY looking forward to MJWIZARDS dropping his roster!

I’m 37 and I wish I could just retire and play MyNBA-Eras all day everyday. This is the best basketball game I’ve played in all my years especially playing through the Eras. I had to shorted the regular season games to the minimum so I can experience multiple years and draft classes thanks to the great roster creators here! I’m not planning on playing the modern era since I simply don’t have time and want to experience the past and what-ifs scenarios. I used to edit rosters, ratings and tendencies with the past 2Ks obsessing over making the game mimic what I watch in real life but this Eras mode has me playing more than editing, I’m having so much fun now.

MyNBA-Eras is the best thing that 2K has produced ever. It’s really a game changer esp if you’re an old head like I am.
