56 years old here and this has been my favorite new feature by a major sports game in years.

Last year I messed with the 2k77 - unlike most guys my age my entire career has been in IT so the technical side wasn't an issue (actually took me back to the early dos days when we were always doing hacks like this) but my time for gaming is limited and while the tech stuff was well done and not an obstacle the time it took was so I never made it that far.

having this straight out of the box has been incredible and this is all I have been playing. Not sure if they will expand it but it would be incredible if we got a "start any year" option. I have a pretty negative opinion of what Ultimate Teams\ Virtual Currency has done to sports gaming. I understand it from a business standpoint. but it holds absolutely less then zero appeal to me. However - if they did something along the lines of here are the 4 base start years and you can buy these others (especially if it was every year) I couldn't click the buy button fast enough.

I did this, transported the current Warriors to the 80s. Led the league in makes and attempts. CPU doesn't seem to mind it, no adjustments during the regular season. Got the 2nd best record in the West and lost via sweep to the Lakers in the West Finals because of Cap's 20rpg.

52 here and I haven't played ERA yet! This is by far the best BBall game I've played in a very long time. I'm still trying to get the hang of shooting but overall, I'm having fun!

Question? What roster is everyone using?

        Play on old timers LOL!!

I really wish I could stick with one era franchise lol. The start of the NBA season has me wanting to start a modern era franchise now.

But I will say, 90s is my favorite era to play in…they have the best upcoming draft class, the biggest rivalries (imo), and it’s just the era I grew up watching in my most formative years as an nba fan……HOWEVER…the ‘02 Sixers is probably my most played franchise 😂. Maybe it’s because it’s with my favorite all time Sixer/ NBA player (Iverson), or maybe it’s because it’s the team I’ve made the biggest move with so I have most of my finger print on them. I do think the Kobe era has the most stars of all the eras…probably all the best unis too. But man, it really is hard to commit to one era here.

Only issue with Kobe era unis in real life if they’re marred by being worn so baggy they flop around like MC hammer pants lmao. 00’s was on an “unfitted” binge. To me 90’s jerseys are still the most stylish. It seems everyone agrees modern jerseys are the worst. The minimalist/corporate approach to uniforms yields something too soulless, sans fun and too clinical.

Lol yea the baggy unis were something else! I would agree with you on the 90s unis, but unfortunately my Sixers had my least favorite unis of any era during that time lol

The Grant Hill Pistons uniforms were the worst in my opinion during the 90's lol .

I've never been in an online league before....but I'd consider being in one if the settings and terms were right.

I'm in the same position as the OP. 41 y/o and can't settle on a league. and I don't have time to play mulitple leagues etc, so I just end up restarting over and over.

Right now I am doing a fantasy draft myera with the Kobe era.

I'm not sure if I am going to stick with it. I don't like non-fantasy drafted leagues because the missing players stick out like a sore thumb.

Anyway, does anyone have an recommendations on a set-up? I feel like this is probably the best place to ask. Hell, I don't even need recommendations, just tell me what your personal set-up is, if you want.

Anyway, not a big poster but loving this game so far, and I haven't really enjoyed it all that much since 2011 or so.

I began with the 1983-84 season. I'm in control of all teams but I mainly focus on the Isiah Thomas-Kelly Tripucka Pistons. I downloaded a custom roster that had all teams properly filled out and I downloaded an accurate 1984 draft class (complete with Charles Barkley & everyone else).

Generally speaking, I'm keeping everything historically accurate. Awards, champions, and team performance may fall where they will, but I draft each player onto their proper team and make most necessary transactions in the offseason (hence why I control all teams).

What I get as a result is this sort of rolling historical experience where I can learn nuances of the league that I may have missed. I can watch the Clippers move to LA in the '84 offseason, the Jazz update to the purple unis, etc. And beyond the usual suspects like MJ, Barkley, and Stockton, I can get a more hands-on recollection of who was drafted in '84 and how they impacted their new teams and the league as a whole (guys like Perkins, Willis, Thorpe, Kersey).

Big 50 here. First 2K since 14 I felt I got my offline moneys worth and the new eras mode brings me to tears. Almost [emoji6] Ignoring the continuous pay to win modes, 2K sincerely is fun again. The devs deserve the credit here. Not the executives in their big office chairs.

Gameplay is magnificent, graphics are brilliant. I hope we don’t Take a step back next year.

So after playing numerous franchise games in each Era, I think I've FINALLY settled on one (for now lol)...and ironically is the one era I am not running with my favorite team (76ers).

Using the Sixers in the '83 era is fun, but to be honest, I feel this era is a little too top heavy (Lakers, Celtics, Sixers, Milwaukee and everyone else for the most part)...and also, although this era has the best upcoming draft class, I am not a real big fan of fantasy drafts. And with as many future HOF'ers in the '84 draft there are, seeing that many cornerstone pieces on different teams is a little too much for me lol. Just not sure I want to see Jordan in a Mavs uni, or Barkley in a Kings uni, or Stockton and Malone on two different teams, etc. It's basically a fantasy draft at that point with as many stars there are in that draft. That's just not my preference.

The one I am most invested in is the Jordan Era....I feel there are way more potential contenders and the style of play of this era is just the one I enjoy playing against the most. The Shaq draft is a good draft with 2 main cornerstone pieces that I don't mind seeing go to another franchise. I use the Sonics in this era and they are such a fun team to play with. I traded Ricky Pierce for an aging Kiki Vandewghe and draft pick to try and get a solid wing later in the draft (targeting someone like Latrell Sprewell who is projected to go late first round). I feel this era has more rivalries and this is the one era I really feel like playing every single game (mostly because these are the players that I enjoyed watching the most growing up).
Just something about the 90's NBA that's special to me. The teams were teams. The play was physical, the rivalries, the star players staying with their teams for the most part...so trades and FA were a bigger deal back then I feel like. The 90's is just a fun era to re-live for me.

The Kobe era, I use the Sixers and it is probably my least favorite era. Although my favorite all time Sixer is fun to play with...and I feel this era has the most stars with perhaps the biggest star coming up in the '03 draft, but the teams overall just feel saturated. Lakers and Kings are great, but that's about it I feel. Maybe the Pacers in the East? I find myself wanting to sim a lot of these games because I am just not feeling the 'teams'. Maybe I'd feel different if I played with a team in the west?
Outside of the Lakers, Kings, maybe Spurs, this era just feels like a lot of iso ball which is basically how it was in real life (again, kudos to 2K for making this game with such distinct era style of play).

The modern era is probably my second favorite era to play with. Whether you want to believe it or not, I just feel we are in a golden era of basketball as far as stars goes. Although I tend to be more of a "get off my lawn" guy clutching on to every memory I have of my childhood NBA past....this era is special with the talent around the league. Since it's the modern era and we are now playing "into the future" my mind is not tied to any specific player being on a different team like it would bother me in past eras. Also, the modern era is where you experience the FULL SCALE franchise mode experience with the pre-game, halftime shows, etc.

But all in all, this is definitely the most fun I've had playing and the most invested I've been in a 2K game, or any game for that matter in a very long time!
