Re: NBA 2K24 Introduces New Updates to MyNBA

"MyNBA Lite" sounds really nice and might get me back into franchise mode. Over the last several years, sports games franchise modes have piled in new feature after new feature and IMO it ends up as mostly fluff and clutters the menus.

The benefits of the mode are made clear in the description -- "MyNBA Lite is built on three core pillars: drafting, trading, and winning championships." I think the most players who play franchise modes in sports games rarely get past a year or two (if they actually play and not sim all games). Streamlining things makes something more accessible which is always welcome. No need for each year to have big "advanced" changes that can result in even more bugs that go unnoticed just for the sake of "new". Not everyone wants complex.

If 2K ever wanted to start an Era in, say, 1956 (Russell rookie year), they'd theoretically need to piece together draft classes for every year from 1956 through 1984 (until they run into the the Magic era). And to add onto that, even if they somehow skirted around the draft class issue by just accepting they won't be super accurate, there'd still be the issue of not only creating the art for the players who actually played in 1957, but also trying to secure their rights, which would likely prove increasingly difficult when accounting for how many have since passed away.

On the plus side, there were only eight NBA teams around in '57, so it'd theoretically be a slightly more manageable task than some other eras. Plus it'd be kinda fun if 2K really leaned into it and created an authentic '50 playing experience.

I'd say they could even run a capped era if that helped (where you can only run a few years due to logistics) but I know that'd just be asking for complaints.
I’m not a big fan of them doing a capped era, just because it would seem not worth the trouble if it’s just gonna be stranded like that. You’re right about the draft class issue though, and also two eras (late 40s/early 50s + NBA/ABA period) present difficult challenges re: how to even make the appearance / disappearance of teams coherent. When I play retro I always streamline things in those eras, and for instance I think one should have the option of allowing eventual-NBA teams (like the Nets and Spurs) be NBA expansions at the time that they appeared in the ABA, given that a legit, parallel ABA mode is probably never going to happen.

For the 40s even through maybe the early 60s, I would be OK with partially fictional draft classes if 2K put enough effort into it to make the names, CAPs, and skill sets feel era appropriate. Who cares if randos like Sylvester Lemon and Larry Vernon are replaced by made-up guys?

I don’t see enough in MyNBA for a day one purchase, maybe when it goes on sale. Still enjoying my 80s Era in 23.

Lebron went to 8 straight finals, and 9 out of 10 lol the disrespect never ends. Goofy people follow the NBA, man.

In an eastern conference where he faced only one all nba first team player in the playoffs during that entire 8 year run.

Imo making the finals doesn’t constitute owning an era. But he did win 3, but so did the warriors (all of them against LeBron). So of course it’s his era. But it’s also the team’s who kept beating him, and changed how the game is played. To leave warriors out an an era they dominated and revolutionized is also disrespectful.

Re: NBA 2K24 Introduces New Updates to MyNBA

On the topic of draft classes, over the past few years or so the process of entering the NBA has changed with players electing to skip college and play internationally, G-League, Overtime Elite, etc. Even college rules are change with NIL allowing college athletes to get paid for their likeness. Even the way we follow future prospects has changed where these players are becoming YouTube sensations when they're still in high school.

With that said, could 2K change the way they approach draft classes and attempt to sign top basketball prospects prior to them being drafted? I think of someone like Cooper Flagg who is starting to build a ton of hype. Would there be anything preventing 2k from making some kind of offer to him to use his likeness in the game prior to him getting drafted? Or maybe being able to use/obtain the rights for young undrafted G-League that will be drafted within a year (like Scoot Henderson last year).

It would add a bit more realism to MyNBA and change the way we think about draft classes in franchise modes. I wouldn't expect them to fill a whole draft class or for them to sign prospects beyond 2 years of when they are expected to be drafted, but even a handful of players for the 24 and 25 draft would be cool.

Edit: Meant to mention that these players wouldn't have to be used strictly for MyNBA. 2K could also use them for a mode like My team as well or put them into My Career where you interact with these prospects on your way to the league, leading to some fun story lines and scenarios once you get drafted (do these prospects become rivals? Teammates? Training partners?).

Please take a look at the Courtside Report again. MyNBA has been and will ALWAYS be for PS5 and Xbox X/S... PC is still considered last gen this year my g.

On the plus side, you could do a variety of things on PC that we cannot at all

These additions were super mid, I’m not shocked though. More barebone updates while leaving other features within the mode that could help with those areas untouched year after year.

I just hope they fixed the messed up " last year team standings 90-91 season" for the Jordan Era that was present in 2k23.

Re: NBA 2K24 Introduces New Updates to MyNBA

This year honestly looks like a baby step forward. I can understand though, with the entire focus on CrossPlay, ProPlay and the 2k money makers.

Let's be honest the LeBron Era could been added last year if they wanted to. As expected players/courts/CBA are updated. The"automatic aging transformation" and news tabs are cool tiny additions. Clutch Player of the year award? Cool to see how 2k simulating clutch. MyNBA Lite cool. The End. Audio? Commentary? In-Season Tournament? Create A Player? G-League? "NBA 2K24 will feature all of your favorite modes, including MyNBA, each with a bevy of new improvements to make it an even more enjoyable and realistic experience." I just hope some of those questions are in the "new improvements'.

For someone whose playing franchise mode since NBA 2k1, I can appreciate where it is today with it. But I can only hope that 2k is gearing up for a massive overhaul next year with 2k25 because this mode's core has been the same since NBA 2k17 on the PS4. Yes they added MyStaff, ERAS and a step backwards TRAINING to next gen but that's it. I would take the same setup of MyNBA just add to it. There are so many things in MyCareer they could add to MyNBA. I would love to play the practice and training drills from MyCareer in MyNBA with my team so I develop my players my way with MyStaff. Come on 2k.

And if 2k can add ERAS with historic players and the WNBA its time to have the G-League with real players.

2k really needs to start showing the same love to all their modes like back in the day. See yall Sept 8th.

Can we currently edit rosters export dna in MyNBA online? If so I’m thinking this is a backdoor way to help roster makers across platforms.

Looks like I'll probably be sticking to 2k23 this year.

I wasn't bummed about the initial news drop because like I said in my first comment, most of what I was hoping for was more of the polish variety that wouldn't get hyped.

But I am bummed we haven't got any subsequent information like tweets (xposts?) or interviews mentioning some of the smaller things we were all hoping for.

I remember reading about more courts coming, I'd love having more alternate uniforms from the Kobe era. Christmas jerseys, accurate all star uniforms and courts would be huge but probably something with licensing that makes it hard to do. [emoji1745]
