    Re: The Dominance of Ben Simmons in 2K

    you guys haven't even mentioned how good he is on defense in 2K.....

    It makes for a top 3 2K player almost since he's been in the game.

        One note (I'm a Nets junkie) Ben Simmons interview last week he claimed that he talked to JV and will be running Point this season. His position should (PG/C).

        Keep an eye on the progression of Day'Ron Sharpe. If he can become a playable role player Ben Simmons can likely run with him as a PF as well.

        I like your ratings update for him. I would keep an eye out for that Post Hook. It was absolutely unreliable last season. When he missed them, he missed them BAD.

        His defense was still great for us in 22/23 even with his bad back. I watched him lock up Trae Young and give Damian Lillard fits last season. He is truly problematic for small guards.

        Do you also touch the tendencies? Two tendencies of note are fouling and finishing. He fouled way too much last season so that should be very high. His Attack Strong on drive tendency should be very low.

          The big concern with that is he can't play with Nic Claxton. The Nets couldn't get away with it when they had KD and Kyrie, much less what they have now. That's why he's a center more than anything.

          It should be noted that Sharpe being the only other Center on the roster is another reason why Simmons likely ends up seeing his minutes there.

          They usually ran him as a "Point Center" utilizing shooters like Patty Mills and Seth Curry (both departed) at the 1. That isn't an option with Dennis Smith Jr. Everyone puts on a positive spin in August/September, but the way the Nets have built the roster, it doesn't seem like they are expecting much from him.

            Regardless, nobody in here has any idea what to expect from Ben. Dude played like 40 games coming back from back injuries and mental issues on a team that fired its coach mid-season and blew up its roster at the deadline and was dealing with other injuries/trade demands all year long. And that was after missing an entire season before that.

            We don’t even have a remotely close to decent sample size of games to showcase what his role/ratings could look like next season.

              Yeah, it's not like Simmons has played 5 seasons, 317 games, 10,000 NBA minutes, or anything like that.

              His overall production was actually very comparable to his 2021 season. The main difference was his Usage fell off a cliff, primarily because the Nets couldn't figure out a use for him on the court on a team w/ superior creators.

              The Sixers could get away w/ Simmons at PG because they had Embiid as a half-court post hub. The Nets don't have that luxury. Simmons & Embiid didn't even have a two-man game, but you would have us believe Simmons and Claxton could find the magic? Because hey, who really knows???

                True on Clax/Ben but to be honest they are going to HAVE to play together this season.

                We just don't have enough depth at the point for Ben to not see a ton of minutes there. It's basically just him and Dinwiddie. None of our other guys who are guaranteed minutes are capable of being a lead ball handler.

                Depth Chart Options at each position:

                C - Clax - Ben Simmons - Day'Ron - Watford

                PF - Cameron J - DFS - Royce - Ben Simmons - Bazley - Watford

                SF - Mikal Bridges - Cameron J - Royce - Lonnie Walker

                SG - Mikal Bridges - Cam Thomas - Lonnie Walker - Royce - Ben Simmons

                PG - Spencer Dinwiddie - Ben Simmons - DSJ

                This doesn't include the question marks rookies Noah Clowney, and Dariq Whitehead.

                So yea we can call Ben a Point Center but I think he'll be guarding wings & guards on D and initiating the offense when he's out there.

                  Swapped Simmons' position to PG from C and his rating dropped 4 points. Lol.

                  I will tentatively have him at PG entering camp.

                    For 2k23, should Ben be a Shooting Guard for Brooklyn as the primary, PG for secondary and Center thirdly? And I suppose for 2k24 he will be a PG as default?

                      Simmons is one of the most notable "misses" in terms of stock 2K ratings. A lot of his physical attributes, as well as dunk tendencies should have been significantly decreased. Simmons does not *at all* utilize his size so if you have to handicap him in 2K by underselling his attributes somewhat, so be it IMO.

                        Will it be enough of a drop to get him around a 72 overall, or will he still dominate other guards mainly because of his size?

                          Ben Simmons RATING changes in NBA 2K24
                          76 Overall (-2)
                          76 Pass Vision (-10)
                          58 Block (-1)
                          81 Lateral Quickness (-2)
                          87 Speed (-5)
                          83 Speed w/ Ball (-1)
                          87 Acceleration (-5)
                          80 Defensive Consistency (-5)
                          81 Help Defense (-3)
                          50 Intangibles (+25)

                          Interesting! 2K actually had to give Simmons an Intangibles boost because of how far his OVR dropped. It's worth noting that these attribute changes had minimal effect on his OVR (undo them and he's still at 76 OVR). His OVR change on the surface would appear to be predominantly badge based. However...

                          Ben Simmons BADGE Changes in NBA 2K24

                          15 BADGES (-7)
                          SILVER (2): Big Driver (NEW), Physical Handles (NEW)
                          BRONZE (13): Blow-By (NEW), Bunny (NEW), Challenger, Chase Down Artist, Clamps, Fast Feet (NEW), Fearless Finisher, Interceptor, Off-Ball Pest, Pro Touch, Relay Passer (NEW), Slithery, Two Step (NEW)

                          REMOVED (12): Acrobat (-1), Ankle Braces (-2), Bail Out (-1), Break Starter (-2), Bully (-1), Clamp Breaker (-2), Fast Twitch (-1), Menace (-1), Pick Dodger (-1), Quick First Step (-1), Special Delivery (-1), Vice Grip (-1)

                          With 5 new badges, the net loss is 7 badges.

                          I have not crunched these yet but some of these are re-branded.
                          Physical Handles is likely Clamp Breaker.
                          Blow-By is likely Quick First Step.
                          Bully is likely Bulldozer (which was truly removed from Simmons, if it is indeed re-branded)

                          EXISTING LOSSES (5): Acrobat, Bail Out, Break Starter (S), Fast Twitch, Pick Dodger

                          Here's the thing. Reverting these changes has no effect on Simmons' OVR. The 7 deleted badges are mostly low level and would not make up 3 points of OVR

                          It seems clear that the OVR formula for Centers changed. How much of that is connected to the new/removed badges needs more testing.

                          It's possible the new formula cares more about Simmons' weakness (shooting), which ends up docking him without any further attribute change.. Won't know without a deeper dive on the center position to pick up on any trends.

                            There will always be that guy who is a lot more effective in video games than he is in real life.

                            I feel like I’m cases like Ben, that’s where the consistency attribute should be key.

                            Gerald Green is mad he didn't make this list.

                                I'm surprised that they would seemingly arbitrarily drop Ben's Passing Vision. I would consider taking a closer look at that drop in rating. He has shown no decrease to any of his passing stats from his 2020-21 final Philly season.

                                2021 Ben to 2023 Ben stats

                                Assist %: 31.3% -> 31.3%
                                Per 36 APG: 7.7 -> 8.3
                                Assists Per 100 Possessions: 10.7 -> 11.6
                                Assists Per Game: 6.9 -> 6.1
                                Minutes: 32.4 -> 26.3
                                Turnovers Per 100: 4.4 ->4.3

                                It would appear to me that Ben showed absolutely 0 regression in his passing ability last season. The only anomaly is his Turnover % rising from 19.6 to 27.2 from 21 to last season. I'm not sure how they calculate this stat though. His turnovers per 100 went from 4.4 to 4.3, he had less total turnovers and averaged the exact same amount of turnovers per game. So it's unclear what would make his Turnover % rise.

                                Defensively he has his highest Defensive Box +/- of his career last season and maintained his steal rate per 100 possessions too.
