Re: NBA 2K24 Impressions Thread (XBOX SERIES X, PLAYSTATION 5)

Ok, just finished my initial game with the new current Mavs on ps5. Thoughts are below. Keep in mind I played on pro difficulty, but set the rest up pretty much like I had 2k23.

    Likes:
    New menus look good.
New intro to the game is nice.
New ProPlay mechanic with dribbling and jump shots is great. Tons more variety to in game action.
Players felt like they had more weight when getting around the court. Enjoyed the new tip in mechanic off rebounds.
Love the new paint defensive animations to contest shots.
AI seemed smarter on pro difficulty.
Had a camera cut during game a few times to Mark Cuban excited after good plays- really freakin cool.
Loved the new camera cuts from the crowd perspective coming back from half-time.
Love the new scoreboard with in-game states during the game.
Loved the new lighting displays between in-game timeouts.
Noticed a few new lines of commentary. Not a lot, but a few.

    Dislikes (areas for continued improvement)
Noticed some in-game presentation eyesore / immersion killers (Ali's necklace is STILL over and/or clipping her coat during player interviews. I know this is a little thing, but I notice it and it distracts from the commentary. Fix it 2k.)
Noticed players like Dwight Powell (same hair as 23/22 game) Maxi Kleber (same face/empty stare) and Josh Green (same hairstyle as 23/22 game). Come on 2k. Please give these guys some love. You have an accurate picture for Powell, but his character model isn't updated??
I feel like character models overall need an upgrade. Tall players still don't feel tall in 2k. Players should have dynamic hair and it should work with sweat. Luka's hair NEVER moves, looks different over the course of a game or gets sweaty like it does real life. Dude sweats man. Also, Derek Lively II's head looks huge compared to his body. He's got the C Wood syndrome from 23.
Didn't seem like the sweat mechanic was working well enough overall. By the 4th quarter, players looked like they only just started and substitutions were good for the most part, meaning everyone played a bit.
Didn't have near enough foul calls on default.

Overall, 2k24 appears to be better than 2k23 in a lot of good ways, but doesn't raise the bar where it could definitely in others. With a custom roster and good sliders though, this could be another good year for sim gamers. 2k please don't constantly patch and change the gameplay. Fix problems yes, but please don't constantly patch.

Yup just confirmed my worst fear that we did not get 60fps all throughout. Done with consoles

I might just wait for a discount on the PC version because nobody can understand the difference when playing at over 100fps throughout the game and replays to what consoles offer. Just awful

This is a HUGE win! That drove me crazy for years watching cpu guys with 3 fouls in the 1st quarter or 5 in the 3rd. It’s the little things/fixes that go a long way!

Is it at least smooth during gameplay unlike last year?

Ya but last year broadcast cam was almost unplayable because the fps were so bad due to the floors being so “busy”

You can override ACE subs so I just put Davion Mitchell in and he gave Fox a significant rest.

I don't like you right now lol. I was holding off buying but this might change my mind.

I was so hyped for ERAs on PC then was so let down when it didn't happen.

Didn’t it get fixed? Mine never stutters on series S. If it does it’s very rare. Some guys are reporting the flickering issues is still happening in 24 on broadcast.

Didn’t ACE always sub players out after 2 fouls in the first? In 23 it always does for me or cpu. I think every 2K I’ve played has done that.

Not for me. I always had ace on and they would let a player stay in to foul out even if in the first quarter.

As aholbert said how the game handles foul trouble is fixed. Sounds like I wasn’t the only one with that problem.

Not an impression but thought I'd share this stoey. Haven't played yet, disc is installing now, but man not preordering was riskier than I thought. Went to one GameStop and it was sold out besides the preorder copies and the person at the desk indicated that that was the case for all GameStops near by. Went to another one and got lucky. The clerks friend preordered a copy but ended up going digital instead because their son wanted the game right away.

As I was checking out the person behind was like "damn is that the last copy? I came in for the same game." He said he tried another GameStop and a Best Buy and they were both sold out too.

I usually go digital these days besides sports games or really good sales but I can't remember the last time I saw a game sold out like this. The guy behind me made a good point that it might be because Kobe is on the cover.

This made my weekend though. My mother in law is taking my daughter tomorrow morning until Sunday, wife is working all day tomorrow. Got all day to play 2k. It's rare that the stars align like this.

Good luck to those of you that didn't preorder and are hoping to grab a physical copy. Hopefully you have an easier time finding a copy than I did.

You realize in order for console to push 120 on games that already support it there’s a degradation in graphics? See Fortnite and COD.

I think it’s better this year, last year was horrible playing from broadcast cam because of the floor reflection and what not

CPU did sub out after two fouls in the first since 2k11 and probably before that. Now maybe they had removed it on this gen, can't comment on that.
