Let's make a Tatum setting. A Zion setting. OH! Let's get 2k to invent a defense that doesn't exist.

They tried to put Battier on Kobe.

They tried trapping Curry at halfcourt.

But OSers want a Luka setting.

The thing is nobody is talking about Luka the player himself or his talent/who can/can't guard him.

The poster was simply asking can 2K have teams put the correct defenders on players as they do in real life despite their position: Example OG guards Luka a majority of the time. Not Dennis.

Chill. I think the OP is asking why can’t the coaching engine cross match to ensure the best CPU defender guards your best player.

Another example. Brooks is a SF and will guard Minnesota’s SF when he should be matched up on Edwards who is a SG.

The coaching engine should recognise the best match up

Suspect it's similar to the way rotations work. If the CPU'S point guard gets injured, they won't insert their 6th man SG/PG into the starting five, they'll insert the next natural PG (even if he's much worse).

Everything seems very rigidly coded by position.

In myleague I choose who matches up with my stars and it sticks.

Problem is when that guy is not on the floor his match up defaults to position.

Smart match ups were in years ago but may have been hardcoded.

just to be clear, the conversation is about the cpu not able to adjust or have any sort of planning to go against user (me), when there are obvious match-ups that need special taken care of

I think what Smirkin Dirk was saying that before the game he temporarily controls all teams or just the next opponent and uses the gameplan feature to gameplan against himself. Afterwards he restores them to AI control but his changes stick.
