NBA players are going to have more swishes than not, but it isn't 99.9% of shots. There should be variety and there are options between swishes and makes after the ball toilet bowls or bounces around a few times. Not sure if they could replicate this but I love shots that are almost swishes but just catch the rim or back iron on the way through, making a slight "ting" sound.
Various ways to make shots is a fundamental beauty of basketball. I’m shocked anyone would argue that. The online community of this game really are the Kardashians of the basketball community. The game of ball means nothing to them. It’s simply a means to them creating an alter persona that they can grind to compete with others in. So the beauty, realism and variances of the game are matter-less. Instead, “if I shoot, it better be a swish.”

The “ting” sound is glorious. If you really want to fall in love with it, watch highlights of Kobe’s 81 point game. You’ll know what I mean when you see it.

Does 2K24 really only have swishes? That’s horrible. I play only 2K23 now so that game has all kinds of great basket making variances. And it does it either with user timing or real fg%.

We’re kind of confusing a couple different things.

Outside of a glitch where the net wouldn’t move at all (which I feel was the biggest contributing factor to not adjusting it mid cycle like ‘23) there were no changes. Game launched and finished with mostly (not all) swishes on makes.

It’s a separate entity from pro play, green releases etc. and can be adjusted independently. Still glad they adjusted the long rebounds though, because there were still plenty, it’s just that the NBA doesn’t have park double rims and the ball shouldn’t ricochet 10 feet every time it touches it.

I’m glad someone still actually cares to look into these things for us though, because while some in our little bubble here think shiny reflections and rim physics are selling copies or even worth marketing, in reality it absolutely is not, lol. Still adds a lot to the experience for us that care.

The players that make 2K money play on glowing blacktop courts and hoop in Crocs. Our little bubble is more catered to a sim experience (as if Nintendo era innovations like reflective courts and basic physics like rim interacting makes are “sim” now). Technically 2K can turn this game into NBA Jam and it’ll probably sell just as much if not more.

Out of touch MyCareer references aside, the point remains.

When 2k23 first released, all shots were swishes. Then it got patched and now it has a great variety of ball-rim interactions.

Most of the greens are obviously swishes or shots that hit the sides/back of the rim. Sometimes the ball keeps bouncing/rolling around the rim and there are also long rebound animations but they are rare.

A variety of ball-rim interactions is always good for the gameplay. It doesn't matter if you're comp/sim/casual imo. I don't understand how it got worse in 2k24.

Yeah it’s one of the many reasons I don’t play 2K24 now and went back to 23.

I was playing 23 last night and a few times guys missed rebounds and the ball bounced long and once even went out of bounds after it was tipped in a rebound battle but not grabbed. I feel like the game has lots of spontaneous real life elements like that.
