Re: Finally: NBA 2K25 Community Day 8/22
Couldn't agree more with this. Something like a dev deep dive showcasing the new mechanics in the game would be awesome (9000 ProPlay animations, dribble engine, improved AI etc.).Comment

Their marketing team sucks, they lucky there is no competition. U guys always hate on EA but I feel that madden have been a better game this generation. Especially the year to year improvementsComment

Re: Finally: NBA 2K25 Community Day 8/22
We are trained to buy NBA 2K every September.
If the company decided not to release it, there would be an outcry and a mass depression, especially to those YouTubers who talk negative for the game.
If NBA LIVE had a good product their fantastic marketing would force 2KSPORTS to release a demo or a deep dive gameplay video. And everybody would compare it with live, not the previous version.
Also I don't think that paying the price for the standard version is a problem.I live in Greece and I bought it for 65 euros.I think of it as a small yearly fee that let's me have the opportunity to play an improved version just like some crowd funded games.
And I ask you.Would it be better if the next installment would be five years from now?

Re: Finally: NBA 2K25 Community Day 8/22
Coming off selling 9 million copies, it’s going to be a hard sell to roll your marketing strategy back to the mid 2000’s, lol
This will all be moot by this time next week, and we’ll be saying we’ve seen enough footage and just need to feel the game for ourselves.Comment

The criticism comes from a place of believing 2k can improve and do better. They operate like success is guaranteed and that customers will buy the game year after year no matter what, which is probably mostly true. It's too bad they don't take the opposite approach of "if we don't convince fans this is the best version of the game ever then we are given them an excuse to skip the game."
Edit: It's like the off-season for your favorite team. You can tell what approach they're taking for the regular season based on the off-season. You're probably going to watch and follow the team regardless, but there's a different excitement and interest when they make moves to be one of the best teams in the league rather than only slightly improving or making sideways moves. Usually you can tell when 2K is confident they have a great game.Last edited by scottyp180; 08-24-2024, 10:06 AM.Comment

Re: Finally: NBA 2K25 Community Day 8/22
Madden franchise is a good example because they have the exclusive rights, will pretty much sell every year, but the dev deep dives still happen to showcase the new mechanics etc.
I'd personally prefer devs showcasing the new gameplay improvements than the Community Day event - just because I think the devs should showcase certain things better than YouTubers.
That said, I'm past the days of this sort of thing sending me into a rage. Just more of an observation/opinion.
If the YouTubers is what we'll get, I'll check it out.Comment

Success shouldn't be an excuse. 2016 Warriors had the best regular season ever and went out and signed KD. This could be the best 2k ever, and we'll recognize everything it does well, but that doesn't mean we should ignore flaws and areas of improvement. As fans we should point them out and expect 2K to address them.
The lack of direct competition shouldn't matter either because there are always other games, products, and expenses vying for people's money. We might not have the option to buy Live instead, but we could choose to buy other video games or spend our money elsewhere.Comment

Unfortunately, that's exactly the vibe 2K gives off, "we sold X copies and made $X million so let's play it safe." Success shouldn't be an excuse to be complacent and 2K has become complacent in a few areas.

To your analogy, Being upset that your team doesn’t focus their off season talks on finding deep post players after winning a championship in 2024, lamenting that they only focus on shooting now is an exercise in futility…the game has changed. Understanding where the game has changed will lessen yearly frustration.
Info dropping on Twitch being called “bad marketing” here just emphasizes how much that realization needs to happen.Last edited by The 24th Letter; 08-24-2024, 03:20 PM.Comment

Re: Finally: NBA 2K25 Community Day 8/22
2K’s marketing strategy the last two console generations:
- Release a middling NBA game with some flashy new feature but missing some sort of key gameplay feature that stands out as the game’s fatal flaw.
- After a week of backlash, have a community-friendly dev say “sorry guys, but we ran out of time and couldn’t include that this year. Next year though!”
- Game is so mid that you anxiously await next year’s iteration because “well it has to be better, right?”.
- Show only 0.5 seconds of gameplay in the “gameplay trailer” and “gameplay deep dive”, just enough to make people curious without actually revealing anything to feed the community’s desperation for something new/different.
- Community buys a middling NBA game with some flashy new feature but missing some sort of key gameplay feature that stands out as the game’s fatal flaw.
Oops I gave away the ending 🫣 Oh well, see y’all in a week to start the cycle over again!Comment

or wait a week before…
Don’t get me wrong, I do miss the times where we had videos months out and a demo too.

Re: Finally: NBA 2K25 Community Day 8/22
Eh, to be fair, one of the main purposes of hyping a game up before release is to make people want it on day one, and it's especially effective when not only is it an annual release, but also the only game of its kind available.Comment
