I dubbed the name of our collaboration For the Love of the Game. It's the name of the basketball program I run. It just came to me that I could use that name and logo for our roster projects like sim world does. I think the name says it all when it comes to why we come here and spend time creating rosters. Hope everyone is cool with it

Just reading all of the posts in this thread and still working my way through it, but I just thought I would leave a quick reply here. The '03 Spurs were very formidable and could be a nice way to get both Tim and the Admiral on a team with Tony and Manu. Manu was a rookie but stepped up his game in the playoffs and Finals. The '05 era team obviously has prime Tim, Tony, and Manu, but I just thought that I would leave my thoughts. The '03 Team always seems to get undervalued in historic discussions.Comment

I think every historical roster should be released as two separate versions: an opening day roster and a playoff roster.
The opening day roster would have all rosters as they stood on day one of the season, complete with injuries with durations that represent the exact number of games (not days) that that player missed from day one onward through the season. Salaries would be accurate, adjusted accordingly to match the salary cap for that year; I have a spreadsheet that already calculates this adjustment if you guys need it. This would be for MyLeague players.
The second roster would be the playoff roster, with lineups (and injuries) accurate as of day one of the playoffs. Salaries not important, as this would purely be for quick game matches.
Obviously the split would be one of the last steps in the roster creation process, but I think this is a critical step to take.

Re: 2k17 Roster Making Brainstorm Session - Ps4, Xbox, Pc
After looking through some of this years posts for the new roster box I see that people have been collaborating all year. Teams of 2-3 people usually get the job done while people that try to go solo end up losing interest or just want to spend time playing the game. Understandable of course but there are some really great roster ideas that will never see the light of day.
I've seen tons of fictional roster projects, most of them completed which is good.
I've seen many projects updating 2ks 2016 rosters for current season. I understand some people have their own opinion on how players should be scaled and have the self motivation to do it alone. But people are doing double the work. If we can all agree on a ratings scale or just use Sonics scales were applicable we will save time.
I've seen people make rosters for the same season or rosters with many of the same players and they didn't even know about each other. Other roster makers (especially draft makers) are even competitive with each other which is counter productive with the limited amount of people and time we have in a release cycle. We could have future drafts of 100-150 players spanning a least a decade but instead we have several people all working on CAPS for 2016 still.
Another thing I've witnessed while going through these threads is there are actually several threads where people are sharing caps, sigs etc. but it's not organized. Reading thru hundreds of pages is not ideal when I think the op should the keep first post updated with their findings. Or better yet, an editable spreadsheet where everyone can share their findings in one document. So many sigs and Caps will be lost in the shuffle and then will end up being recreated by a second person just because no one noticed the work was already shared on page 32 of a massive thread.
SonicMage says that he will need help at release time of 2k17. He needs every rating and tendency inputted into a spreadsheet with numbers taken directly from the roster that comes with the disc. This will help him calculate any new formulas and changes that 2k17 has. In turn, he will post the new ratings and tendencies for decades worth of players based on his results. The sooner he has working spreadsheet, the sooner we can complete rosters. I think this should be priority number one when 2k17 drops at the end of September.
After I complete the roster box and get further progress on the finals project spreadsheet, I think my next task is rounding up all the roster makers from this past year. Just make a checklist of who's in or not and try to get as many people on board as possible.
Some people enjoy the process of making rosters and will want to go it alone which is fine, no hard feelings. But I think a majority are like me who are limited on time and just want to play the game. And yet it would be nice to have completed historic rosters including players like Rasheed, Barkley and Miller. Of course, quality is still important too. What fun is it to play against 95 Shaq if he doesn't play like 95 Shaq? And so that's why we make rosters. And why 2k allows creative editing to its video game because editing 1000's of players (and paying for the rights to use them) for a small minority of customers is a daunting task. But the goal should be for many of us to work together, get the projects done quickly and then enjoy our rosters for the remainder of the year!Last edited by Coachjosh21; 05-06-2016, 03:19 PM.Comment

Re: 2k17 Roster Making Brainstorm Session - Ps4, Xbox, Pc
Hi all, so it's a bit early to talk about 2k17 but some ideas have surfaced on how to make classic rosters quickly, efficiently and just have more of them. If we can get enough people on board, the idea is to collaborate on the roster making process by working on the same roster file with several members adding their contributions to each project and then sharing our findings across platforms.
My hope is one person can create a Cap of say...Reggie Miller. On let's say...ps4. He will add his cap to every ps4 roster that needs a Reggie Miller. Then that person will share his formula for the created cap so other cap makers can just copy for their own rosters on Xbox and pc. This way we can build our projects off each other. Imagine the time saved in creating just one Reggie Miller shared across dozens of rosters. Then imagine that saved time can be put into creating even more rosters!
Let's brainstorm ideas on what tools we can use (like Google docs), what specific rosters we would like to create and start determining who will fulfill what roles in the roster making process.
Were mainly talking about a gameplan for 2k17 so we can start working ahead and then making rosters right at release time in September. I suppose if we're really motivated enough and get working right away, we have time to crank out rosters for 2k16 as well, but we'll see where the discussion goes...
I will start it off by sharing my ideas on how we can organize this along with some other details. I will update this first post as ideas come up. Post your idea, I'll edit in the first post and let see what sticks!
Classic Roster ideas
Specific Season rosters starting w 2014-15
Best teams of all time
Best team from each franchise
Best players of each franchise
Best 500 players of all time for fantasy draft
Past Olympics
2016 Olympic teams
Recreate past NBA finals matchups starting w 2015
Draft class ideas
Specific years that correspond with a season roster (ie 1997 draft class)
Fictional drafts
Future draft classes using names of real prospects (ie 2017 draft class)
Roster Project Task List
Ideally we need 1 person per bulletpoint. Post in this thread and let me know which assignment(s) you would like to take. I'm thinking some assignments like cap faces, and sig shots need multiple people so they can bounce ideas off each other. They could even post created faces and sigs on OS for the other contributors to weigh in on and suggest alternatives.
Cap creation
- Cap faces
- Cap body and related vitals (height, weight, wingspan etc)
- cap background vitals (like birthdate, college, jersey number)
- Ratings
- tendencies
- Badges
- accessories and shoes
- Sig shots and moves
- Hotspots
Research and put in spreadsheet as a reference across all platforms
- players' body and related vitals (height, weight, wingspan etc)
- players' background vitals (like birthdate, college, jersey number)
- player ratings
- Player tendencies
- Player Badges
- Player accessories and shoes
- Sig shots and moves
- Hotspots
- Staff ratings and tendencies
- Coaching sliders
- Points of emphasis
- Playbooks
- Playbook assignments (3pt, cutter, low post plays etc)
Roster Editing and Inputting
For Ps4:
- cap creation
- Team composition (adding or trading players to the correct team)
- existing Player info (vitals, ratings, tendencies etc)
- coaching info (coaching sliders, Poe, plays etc)
For Xbox:
- cap creation
- Team composition (adding or trading players to the correct team)
- Existing Player info (vitals, ratings, tendencies etc)
- coaching info (coaching sliders, Poe, plays etc)
For Pc:
- cap creation
- Team composition (adding or trading players to the correct team)
- existing Player info (vitals, ratings, tendencies etc)
- coaching info (coaching sliders, Poe, plays etc)
Gameplay testing and sliders
- simulate games and seasons to check stats
- CPU v CPU
- CPU v user
- slider adjustments

Hey bro, I did a massive 13+ hour overhaul of the roster for 2k16, first time doing one and I've gotten a lot of good support from it. There are some gear issues as I haven't had time to keep those up to date (I'm also working on 3 full 150 man draft classes with another guy) but if you want to check out my roster, it's under my PSN CelticsFan_03 named 2K ROSTER. Let me know what you think and if you think it's quality enough to be a contributor to this project for next season! I'd love to be apart of something like this. I've wanted to overhaul the legend teams but it takes so long and after doing the whole main roster (sigs, ratings, badges, tendencies) I'm not really feeling it this year. Lol. But I'd definitely love to help out with a project for next season! I'm not the best with CAP's, my specialty area is ratings, sigs, and badges. Tendencies I'm solid on but not the best. I'm good with keeping up on transactions as well (my roster is missing some of the 10 day contract and rest of season contract players that weren't in the game due to me not being that good with CAP's lol) so I can definitely help out there too. Just check my roster out and let me know if you'd like my help on the project!Comment

Re: 2k17 Roster Making Brainstorm Session - Ps4, Xbox, Pc
As for making multiple Spurs teams, I'm all for it. It's further down the line anyway, so we can discuss again once the first few teams are completed.
Adding to OP Sonic's idea about separate opening day rosters and playoff roster. I imagine it wouldn't too hard to move some players around based on trades and remove/add some injuries for playoffs.
Any more ideas for 2k17? No idea is too big or small right now. Let's just get it all out there and then we can prioritize what ideas we have as we get closer to release. I think how much we accomplish will depend on how many contribute to this project. Janmagn already out there recruiting for us! We're on track to make tons of rosters for 2k17Last edited by Coachjosh21; 05-06-2016, 05:40 PM.Comment
