Re: SimWorld Presents: The NBA2K17 Fictional Draft Class Thread (for Xbox One)

First off, I love you guys, been using the classes for years, you make this game 1 million times better because of these classes. There is no good reason 2k hasn't hired you all yet.

With that said, let me ask maybe a controversial question.

For 2k18, what if we cut down the depth a little bit? My point being is that you only have 4 classes out, and it's about to be July. This has been the MO for years. And while the product is fantastic as always, your restricted from advancing deep into a franchise and seeing these guys develop. My favorite year was 2k15 I think it was, you guys put out like 15 classes. It was perfect.

I took 2k17 off, so maybe I'm being ignorant and missing something, but for me as much as I love the in depth stuff, the key has always been number of classes.

Re: SimWorld Presents: The NBA2K17 Fictional Draft Class Thread (for Xbox One)

Its not the depth that slows us down. It has never been. That's been a misconception for a while now. I work the stories and dreece works the tendencies. The stories a d scouting report are done to fill time while dreece works on that stuff. To eliminate that aspect would just leave a big gap of emptiness in the thread while waiting on classes.

In addition to that, we work on the League (the fictional League) which takes a ton of time when the game first drops. While we still try to work on classes in between that time, the League will always take priority over the classes. As much as people may not want to hear this, it is much more important to me than the classes and always will be.

Lastly, this year saw me moving, Dreece working an extra job, me losing 50% or more of dc 5, 6, 7 and 8 due to the game just being overall dumb and me trying to deal with having a baby.

The only thing that would speed up the process would be us saying "let's just not give that much attention to the tendencies and ratings. Let's just work on the first round guys and move on after that". That is literally the only thing (outside of things mentioned above) that takes an extended amount of time. I'll never do that though. Before we put out classes with only 25 to 30 people done I will just quit and work on the League exclusively and leave the classes to other people on the thread.

Once again, I hope this serves as an answer for the post above and the many messages I get..... The scouting reports, stories, spreadsheets, high school lists, stats and anything else you see are ALL fillers to help keep people engaged while the class is being worked on. Eliminating the depth would just take stress and work off our shoulders but wouldn't speed up anything.

          Hey Sapp,

Can I as a question bro? Something I have always wondered about. For your fictional league or the other amazing guys in fictional league in ps4. How do you guys come up with the stories? How do you determine who wins the championships, the awards, the players stats and the stories for the guys?

I know this may seem a dumb question, but its something I have always wondered. I find it so amazing how you all can do this.

Also, 2k15 had so many because there were less ratings, less tendencies and the League was not a priority. We were just experimenting with it so the classes were still the number 1 priority. Also, our personal lives allowed for a lot more free time than they do at the present moment.

Bolded part is the #1 reason. I haven't chimed in because I'm just sick of this game. I work 12 hr days with a 2 hr commute both ways so my time has been completely limited. Couple that with the fact that I lost progress about 5 times on dc5 because of freezes and what not. So I put the editing to the side for a bit.

Sorry for you guys that have been waiting but our team is consisted of grown men with responsibilities. We not sitting in a dorm room or waiting to get out of class to jump on the Xbox to start "editing " DC5 will be out soon. How soon i don't know.

                  Hope y'all get it.

I know this may seem a dumb question, but its something I have always wondered. I find it so amazing how you all can do this.

The process is complex but it is still very easy now that I have a system in place. Generally, when we plan classes, we do them 4 or 5 at a time. Although the classes themselves may be separate on the game, they mesh with one another as far as stories go. For example, a freshman on Kentucky in DC1 would be on the same team as a junior from DC3 and a senior from DC4. After putting all of that on a spreadsheet, we sort them by team and analyze teams in order to put together stats. If we have a high scoring player that plays for a team like... Old Dominion, with no other pro prospects on his team, he is likely to average more points a game than another high scoring player that plays at a big school with other top tier talent on his team.

When it comes to who wins the tournament and rankings, it is based on the caliber of player on each team and the amount of pro prospects each team has. We use that to calculate a score for each team using a formula and those scores play the biggest factor in seeding for the tournament. Once we have the tournament set up, we use a random number machine to determine the winner. The higher the seed, the more numbers they are assigned in that pool of random numbers so they have a higher chance of winning.

As far as the stories, it is just all of us looking at the different spreadsheets and coming up with our own stories using our imagination. A lot of times, the players are based off of real life people we know so it makes it easy to put together stories based off of their personalities. Other times, we may have a particular story that we want to use and we wait until the perfect player or situation pops up to use it. It may sound like a lot of craziness but as long as we keep everything documented and organized, it is very easy.

I'll actually let Dreece speak to the process of testing the draft classes because he is always the last person with the file so he puts the final touches on everything. I can definitely assure you however that it is a long and tedious process lol.

Answers the question perfectly, I had a poor misconception, I also didn't realize the League was such a priority these days.

Can't say I'm not bummed though, for me and I'm sure many others, you fix the awfulness of the generic draft classes and at the same time add in the stories and depth, it makes myleague amazing. Like I said I just wish we could get more classes out of it, watching some of those guys play out hall of fame careers (Ray Ray, Whaklil, Kareem Bishop, etc) was the highlight for me. I used to love playing the all star games with all those guys like 7 years in. I can't just play a franchise mode for 3 or 4 seasons, for me the offseason, draft, team building is the best part.

I get it all though, I can't imagine being able to live my life, work, and put the time into this game that you guys do.

I'm just thankful we have simworld at all.

I believe it.... I'll prob be back in the mix for 2018......looking forward to it.

Is there anyway to send me all 15 or however many there were, 2k14 draft classes?

Maybe while I wait I'll fire up the old gen.

I appreciate the reply, its exactly what I am looking for. I know there are draft classes on ps4 and xbox (referring to the ones that have multiple draft classes, there are 2 that I know of yours and the fictional dc on ps4 and it really gives me an idea of how much time and effort you put into it. I think its really neat, its something I would love to try, being a creative person, but I wouldn't know where to begin to start.

We love and appreciate the work you do. This helps me realize next time, when is such and such draft class going to be released, I will understand why.

Same here! Love your guys work and makes the game 100x better! I'm nearly upto dc5 with my trailblazers myleague and it has been so cool to watch my gis develop as they seem so more real than the generic ones thrown out by 2k! Not sure what I'll do after your classes stop being released!
