    2. Do I do an even number of each position? I was thinking of making 15 in each position, say 5 stars, 5 future stars/role players and 5 roster fillers. This would be 75 players, and the rest I would leave to be entire flops and I'd expect them to retire the following season.

    3. Any other tips for me?
    1. Sixty is a good number. Then do a halfass touch up on an additional 30-40 of the generated players.

    2. I would not set a hard number of each position. Especially since many of the prospects should be able to play multiple positions. Instead of the possibly outdated positions, focus on player roles/archtypes. You need to make sure you have the right amount of each. One important thing to note -- 5 stars for each position is entirely too much! There should probably not even be 5 stars in the entire draft.

    3. Hardest thing for me -- resist the urge to make multiple superstars every draft. Don't get married to the idea that each draft must have X number of players at a certain level. It is fine for some draft classes to have a shortage in some areas. And keep an eye out for falling into the trap of becoming repetitive with the player builds.

Some good stuff in this thread. Great post Barnsey. With cpu poe's not editable has anyone found a way to get teams to play more unique? I specifically find it impossible to get a team to play through the post with any consistency.

Great thread! I have a question for draft class/roster makers.

What is step through shot tendency?

I thought it was something like a drop step for post players. But I checked in the default roster and superstars and high scoring players like Curry, Irving, Harden etc. have it in the high 90s
Big men have it low and there is a drop shot tendency for post players (Shaq has it at 99).

BTW this thread should be stickied

I could be wrong, but i think it's that move where a player steps through and shoots/lays it up after pump faking. Kinda like an up and under thing. But that's just my guess

Yeah I thought so myself. It's just strange for backcourt players to have it higher then frontcourt.
If I have time in the next few days I'll do some testing and report here if I discover something useful.

It is a step through JUMPER from the face-up position, not post. There are many things confusingly labeled by 2k. The numbers are still FAR too high but it is higher for guards as it is the move that shooters attempt when leaning/steping through in attemt o draw a foul. Bigs for the most part should not have it at all and that is why (along with a few other tendencies) you see so many bigs not going strong to the bucket; instead opting for interior jumpers after solid post moves. In a nutshell this is a perimeter player tendency; not a post player tendency.

Thank you for this! I still didn't have time to test so this helped alot.
If you have some insight on other confusingly labeled things please do share. I want to have as much info as possible before I start making my draft classes.

Why is it that when i make a player that isn't a point guard who has high playmaking abilities and playmaking tendencies, they can't average more than 9 assists? Maybe i'm just doing something wrong here but i've tried editing their play types and **** tendencies and it only seems to boost their assists by about 0.3 per game

You'll have to make sure that he is the primary ball handler. Your gonna have to scale your touches for everybody playing with him. Also your gonna have to make sure the other players he's playing with are finishers.

9 apg is ALOT coming from a NON point guard tho...take that into consideration.

Im a stat junky as well and assist is one of those stats in where some players are getting more than they should and others are getting less.

With my testing, if i had pass-out tendency at 100, touches above 80, and everyone else on his team with a pass-out tendency below 50 I will get good numbers. The next thing is the attributes. IQ and vision are pretty strong indicators for assist. You have to use rating caps for certain positions and use outliers as you see fit.

In my roster, for example I put a rating cap on all SG and SF for their passing ratings to be no higher than 55. An outlier would be someone like Lebron, Harden, Batum,etc... Passout tendency no higher than 55 with no outliner.

For my PGs I have a attribute cap at 75 with outliers such as Rondo, paul, wall, players that are good passers. My passout tendency ranges from 60-75 "with" outliers.

For me I have gotten very realistic simulation stats with this and it doesnt affect gameplay. I also got caps for bigs. Rating caps are your friend if you want a realistic myleague experience.

PS: Get rid of all badges. Only assign badges that our gold and HOF worthy. Makes gameplay against cpu a HELL of a lot better.

Was just looking all the threads in the roster forum and there was this one where a guy asked for some help for a new dc creator. That made me think and I have great advice, are you making a real or fictional draft: don't fear to ask the more experienced guys. Many of them, example Sapp or vctrb, they always help you with your small questions. If I have a question about potentials, I know Sapp has answered about that before and will answer if I ask. This is a community, and we are just here helping each other

                              Hi guys.

First of all thanks for these tips. I am working in a European basketball 'mod' so I am also making European drafts. With real players but 'fictional draft' since here does not exist draft .

My question is, what about the year, the birthdate?

If for example I have a player that was born in May the 20th 1997 and I want to include him in a draft for the first playable season should I write in 'age' 19 or 20? I mean, the 'age' in draft is the age in the moment of the draft (June, 2017) (?). I think so but I am not sure.

Then, if I add that same guy for a 'second playable season' draft I should write 'age: 21' etc...

                              Thanks

Re: PSA: A guide for fictional draft class makers

I'm actually working on my first fictional draft class (although it's not really fictional because it's based on guys I've played basketball with). I did have a few questions I was hoping someone could help me with or give me advice on.

                                1) Are ratings for each position created equally? Like is a PG with 80 for close shot and 82 for ball control the same as a PF with the same ratings or is it adjusted by position?

                                2) I know this varies by draft class, but how deep would an average draft class be? I thinking of something like below:

                                Spoiler

Is that draft class too stacked? I think that since I play real b-ball with the guys I making I'm rating them on what they should be instead of what they will become.

                                3) Pretty much a similar question as my last, but this time about Potential. And again I know is varies by draft class, but what's a good baseline to use.

I was thinking only about 2 players in the low to mid 90's, maybe another 2 or 3 players in the high 80's, another 4-5 in the low 80's and the rest in the 70's? With that said, with that many good players in the same draft class would be better than classes like the 1984 or 2003? But, since I'm creating real guys I also would like most of them to stick around and not retire in their early 20's.

                                4) Randomized Draft Classes - I saw where this was asked about earlier, but have any of you done any testing on these or anything? In a way, I think this would be cool, especially since I will know exactly what everyone is rated, but it also scares me a little bit.

                                5) I was wondering how you dole out Badges? Do you many just give bronze badges to a few top players and specialist? Do you go ever go above bronze, an example would be a 2nd Round pick who excels at defense, so you would give them something like a silver Pick Dodger badge even though they're not rated that highly? Is there a cap on how many badges you give out to (what you think will be) a star player should get?

                                6) This thread hasn't been active in a while, so have any of you discovered any more tips you want to share?
