    Re: JB's Fictional Draft Classes

Hey dude, I'm just really curious as to how progression and peak start and end works. I understand that the potential attribute is the highest a players rating can go, but that start and end peak affect how high they go. I was looking at some of the highest drafted players in my Nuggets franchise. The Cavaliers (via Nets) picked #1 and drafted a 79 PG. His potential was like 97, but peak start was 27 and end was 29. Does that mean he won't go very high? A 79 SF drafted at #2 by the Kings had the same potential, but peak start was 22 and end was 29. Does that mean he'll be a higher overall? Thanks for helping me understand, I'm just curious.

That No. 1 pick, if I understand the peak start and end correctly, will result in a much better player than the No. 2.

If it’s the way I’ve always thought about it, if both guys have 97 potential, the No. 1 pick is going to hit his highest overall (theoretically) at age 27, but the No. 2 pick is going to plateau out at age 22. They both start their decline at age 29, but the PG had 5 extra seasons of growth versus the SF, so he will start declining from a higher range.

I could be wrong on that, but that’s how I’ve thought about it.

Ok, so they STOP progressing when they hit their peak start? I always thought that they START progressing when they hit start peak. Thanks for the info, can anyone else confirm?

Like I said, I could be totally wrong, but I’ve always thought of peak start as the point where they hit their peak - and they stay at their peak until peak end - where they start declining.

This is correct. However, there are a few occasions that a player will still progress after hitting their peak start. (not sure what determines it). Also had a few instances (during testing) where a player progressed past their potential.

They can still progress during the peak years (due mainly to in season training) but typically it's not as high of a growth as when they are outside of the peak years.

                    February Notes:

Gonzaga wrapped up the perfect regular season, going 31-0, and Senior guard Bryce Haston is probably the front-runner for player of the year. Could this be the year for Gonzaga to win it all?

UCONN also finished a perfect 31-0 but are being overshadowed by Gonzaga and are still ranked #3 in the nation. Junior Guard Austin Hicks is also in the running for player of the year. A Gonzaga vs. UCONN finals matchup would be really intriguing.

Kansas finished #2 with a 29-2 record and have their own possible player of the year candidate in Junior forward Hasan Jones.

Duke is the #4 team in the nation heading into conference play and is the favorite to win the ACC tournament. They have a very balanced team, lead offensively by sharpshooting guard Victor Marsh, and defensively by Forward Edward Steele.

#5 Kentucky has had their ups and downs this year, but at the end of the day 2 of their players could be top 5 picks in this year’s draft. Center Duane Tucker and PG Romain Hunt.

Fresno State (28-3) has moved up to #16; Junior Guard Emmanuel Nelson is pretty much a highlight reel waiting to happen on a nightly basis with his spectacular dunks.

Another small school, UOP is #17 in the nation, and they have a trio of players to keep an eye out for, led by Senior forward Aiden Coles who is one of the best 3 point shooters in the nation and is also top 5 in steals.

Alabama has clawed their way into the top 25 (#25) and are 20-11 on the season. Led by Junior Point Guard Smokey Freeman who excels at the pick n roll game and has a nice mid-range jump shot, paired with the athletic PF Martin Whitiker. They’ve formed quite the duo.

Another question on peak start and end. Let's say a player with 95 potential has a peak start of 23 and an end of 25. Does that mean he will start regressing then, even though he should theoretically be in his prime? Do you have examples of that in any of your classes as a way to make busts or whatever?
