Re: D43 - Slider Tweaks - Player Movement, etc

After several games the only thing that's bothering me is this weird animation that happens quite often when I get past my defender and attempt a layup. The CPU defender kinda warps into me from behind and makes contact and I take this awkward, double-pump layup. I typically make the layup so it's not a huge deal but it's annoying since it prevents dunks and cool layup animations.

Have you seen that in your games?

Oh, its annoying. That's the "sucking in" to other players I discussed in the first post, which is part of the reason I turned body up sensitivity down.

You could try turning it down a little more, I used to have it on 0. However, I wanted the game to be a little bit more physical which is why I turned it up to 20. You could also lower inside and driving contact frequencies a bit more, but that may not curve it much or at all.

The being sucked in doesnt only impact the drives/fastbreaks like you mentioned, it impacts rebounding (sucked backwards and sideways into other players), it impacts posting up (your body will be slid backwards into a defender, or sucked into a double team or defender in front of you), etc

For 2K21, they need to do work on more realistic collision detection, and make the game more free. Often times in 2K21 you are being pulled into directions you never intended to go, and it absolutely impacts outcomes (forces defense that wouldnt be there otherwise, creates canned sequences of fighting for the ball or even jump balls, etc)

A game of runs, and a duel in the 3rd quarter between Paul George and James Harden.

Some really good highlights in this one. Human vs Human, I am the Clippers.

          Jazz vs Pelicans game highlights

Chance for me to get to .500 (8-8). This game went to overtime, and got pretty intense. A lot of trash talking between my brother and I and a lot of yelling at the TV. Just one of those games. It was a good one though.

A couple nice blocks from behind, and some explosive dunks at the hoop by Zion, Mitchell, Gobert and Jaxson Hayes.

Low scoring game here (For the now NBA, anyway) as one team didn't even crack 100.

Clippers vs Pelicans - Game Highlights - I'm the Pelicans - Human vs Human

Movement off the ball and ability to play defense better in general using these sliders were a big factor in this game. We both shot in the low 40% range (I shot 40% and he shot 42% I believe) as we were constantly flying out at shooters and switching to cover drives.

To the person who gave this thread 1 star:

                1. I literally say in the first post that this slider set is not for everybody, and that if it doesnt suit you find one that does.

                2. I have had some awesome feedback on these sliders here on OS and on my YT channel.

                3. Voting something as 1 star just because it doesn't suit you, or because you just dont like the person, is childish.

Just want to let that out. I had good sliders for NBA 2K17 and 2K19, both were well received. I give plenty of reasons for the tweaks I made, and have shown a bunch of youtube videos demonstrating how the game moves with them.

I realize that OS has this voting and "like" system in place, but this is why it can sometimes get a little frustrating. 1 star threads can give the illusion of poor sliders, or not well received sliders, which discourages people from checking them out (when in reality they could improve that users exlperience). It also knocks the thread down and the one star sticks out like a sore thumb.

Either way, new gameplay video coming soon. Hawks vs Pelicans.

Some people are just ridiculous man. Dont worry about it and keep chugging along. These tweaks are great!

Off topic for a sec: can anyone post the link to Shady Mike’s sliders? I cant seem to find the thread and want to give a shot with micing them in.

                  Thanks for your work man!

Just wanted to say: Thank you to those who upvoted the thread, you didn't have to do that and I appreciate it.

Sorry for the recent lack of gameplay videos in here, I have been modding 2K13 and 2K14 a bit and it's taken my time away from 2K20.

I get the W here, but Chris Paul goes nuts at the end.

Human vs human gameplay. This was a fun one.

Great work! I wrote off 2K20 because the gameplay was so sluggish and looked nothing like what I watch on TV. Long story short I'm playing on broadcast for the first time EVER (used 2K view since Dreamcast), and on a hunt to get the game to "feel" right—player movement, game speed, etc. After trying a combination of EccentricMeat, Shady, and ThaLiveKing, I find your slider edits to be the best answer to my problems with the game.

Keeping game speed at or around 50 is looking better every time I play because the game looks like what you see on TV. Like you mention in one of your posts, you can up game speed to 60 and it might feel better, but it's also hyper speed and masks the real problem. I also think body sensitivity can't be above 50 and I'm amazed how many sets have it at 75 or above. Drive-by's don't seem to exist when it's that high.

All that said, I only tweaked fouls and shooting sliders and I have had a blast so far. Thank you for the edits!

Thank you! They seem to be improving the experience for many people the same way they improved the experience for me.

And same, I've been playing NBA 2K since the original (and prior with NBA Action 98, a Sega Sports/Visual Concepts title)

Just chiming in some encouragement here. I haven't played since 2K16, so trying 2K20 was rough. I was trying out sim sliders, etc and it just made the game so hard and it didn't feel smooth.

Your sliders have helped a ton. I am still going to tweak things here and there, but I've loved these.

I've not played much, so had a question for you - how have these impacted post play in your experience? A lot of your videos have more up-tempo games.

The post game feels better IMO, because less sucking in occurs which in turn creates more freedom of movement. It opens up the face up game a bit as well, instead of always being sucked into the defender and forced into slow motion side by sides.

Lowering the body up sensitivity like I did seems to benefit the post game the most.
