    The Importance Of Crowd Noise

I really hope that NBA 2k9 captures crowd noise, reactions, and the sound effects that accompany an announcer and crowd drawing you into the game. Watching Messenjah's videos and actual replays on TV you can get excited (and even have goose bumps) when the crowd noise and commentary work properly.

I also think that a good implementation of crowd noise and good commentary can keep you addicted to the game. The sheer excitement it generates will get your blood pumping.

Finally, I remember how good the crowd noise was when 2k first came out on the dream cast. It, in my opinion, was really, really great. That just got you excited about the game.

I hope they get it right.

I bought FIFA soccer for the Sega CD. I wasn't a soccer fan, but I loved that game because of the crowd sounds. The chants and all was so awesome that it just pulled me into the game like no sports game before it. I think crowd noise is very underrated in sports games and needs more attention.

Nice post you got there Zone...

This year's game feels like the crowd is drowning the commentary. If you set the crowd too low, I couldn't understand their chants. (Is it just me, but the Detroit Basketball chant doesn't work for me! I'm now on my second TV and an HD Sammy Home Theater with Optical Cables. It's like the crowd's reply is barely audible...)

The crowd atmosphere will really add a lot in terms of the over all excitement. Rallying for a crowd deafening approval is something!

Man the crowd isn't good at all in 2K. I'm sorry.

They still cheer when the home team gets called for an over the back call.
They still go crazy when the home team scores within the last min of the game and they are down by 15+ pts

The crowd is ********. I hope this is finally addressed.
          Concrete evidence/videos please

The actual crowd sound quality in 2K8 is garbage. The crowd drops a few dbs sharply (while still cheering) instead of raising in the rear speakers.

NBA and CHoops 2K7 doesn't do this, why does 2K8???

How'd it ship like that? It was the first thing I noticed on my first play.

Re: The Importance Of Crowd Noise

Indeed, sometimes the crowd is quiet when they actually jump up as if to start cheering at the end of a game.

At the beginning of a game, the crowd cheers more appropriately than at the end.

I truly believe a great crowd cheering engine can make the game that much better. When I'm at home, sometimes the home crowd cheering gets me really excited. When I'm the away team, the home crowd cheering - especially during a run - can make me a little more nervous, pissed off, or agitated - all of which indicate that I am into the game and enjoying it.

I know they say they read our threads, 2k if you see this, please fix the crowd noise.

(I hope they are reading this and thinking - "...if only you guys knew what's coming".)

Re: The Importance Of Crowd Noise

I completely agree with you all. I think the crowd isn'tt that great in 2k. They somewhat improved it, but it acts weird at certain times. They need to also find a way to make dynamic crowds, where if the home tteam is getting blown out, then they should make it so that the crowd starts to leave unless the team is known to have a crowd that stays. They should also make it so that the crowd stands at the right time, and add a dB meter, and have certain arenas louder than others depending on real life and season progression of teams.

I heard that David Stern does not want that "when a team gets blown out, some people in the crowd start to leave" because it will have a negetive impact in the game or some bs. I heard it was in NBA2K6 but hopefully they put it in there only for Association Mode

I heard that too, but I haven't really found any article on it. I remember Madden 2003 had it, but their crowd didn't look that good. lol

I think it was in 2K5 for the XBOX also.

Man like I said before I believe that is pure BS. Why on earth would David Stern even KNOW that it is in the game? Who the hell from the NBA Offices even checks to see if something like that is in the game?

The same people that made Midway take all the Mortal Kombat characters out of NBA Jam TE.
