Re: Official NBA 2K9 Playbook Thread
The chosen Defensive sets are simpler to come up with since there isn't as wide a variety of them as there are offensive plays. This is the list I have chosen for every team:
Man
2-3
3-2
Box-1
Halfcourt Press
Halfcourt Trap
Fullcourt Press
Fullcourt Trap
Despite the list shown here, allow me to clarify that I'm very hesitant to call zones in this game because they all need to be improved on having defender show active hands denying certain attempted passes and also making the appropriate shifts and rotations depending on where the basketball is on the court. They all break down far too easily as they're currently designed in NBA 2K9. As a result, I wouldn't rely on any of them much. And the 1-3-1 is by far the worst zone defense in how it's ran in this game in comparison to real life, so I eliminated that set by default.

Re: Official NBA 2K9 Playbook Thread
Several people have PM'd me about what kind of playbooks I used for each team and I'd figured I post them here. To me, getting the right playbook is the most important factor in the game for getting stars in the right positions to make shots. I use my own tweaks and sliders to get the stars acting appropriately when they get their, but that's about 20% of the battle IMO.
Kruza has done some great work on the user end of this thing. Now it's time to get the CPU AI utilizing the best playbooks to get their stars the ball.
Like Kruza, I will go team by team. First up is the Boston Celtics. My recommended playbook for them is the Dallas Mavericks playbook.
First off, Dallas is not on my list of no, no playbooks (Nets, Grizzlies, Heat, Clippers, Spurs, Pacers) but it's not a universal playbook that you can use with any team. The Mavericks features tons of plays isolating the PF on the High Post. They feature alot of iso plays for the SF and SG and tons of opportunities to create plays.
KG plays beautifully with this playbook on default sliders with default rosters. I'm talking about fadeaways from the elbow, pick and pops, ball handling from the top of the arc.....he plays like a more aggressive Dirk. Likewise, Pierce has plenty of good looks and iso opportunities. It's very difficult to keep him in front of you on the default levels because he gets the ball is such good positions....which was why I switched from the Celtics default book to the Mavs book. The SG will get plenty of opportunites to score as well (even though there are more iso's for Ray than I would like to see). It plays really good for the most part.
There is a downside however. Get ready for Rajon Rondo to become the second coming of Bob Cousy. The Mavs playbook is manufactured to get J Kidd tons of assists and Rondo with his inflated ratings has no problem filling into that role. You will see oops and laser passes with Rondo occassionally. Fortunaley, there are some ways around this. First, you can decrease his ratings especially his passing rating although that is somewhat extreme for a playbook change. I would suggest playing off of him because if he gets by you a little bit, he's going to find the open PF or C no problem."Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Comment
