Re: In this thread, we post simple ways the player can make the gameplay more realist
How effective is this in terms of the "other defenders" helping out with guarding the main offensive player? I want to try this out but haven't had time.Over-Commitment: Superstars like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade command more attention than nearly any other player in the league with the ball. When they touch the rock, you can bet that all five defenders have their eyes on them and are ready to react instantaneously to any move they make towards the basket.
In 2K9, the best you can do to recreate this over-commitment is to set every player OTHER than LeBron/Kobe/Wade/whoever to "Sag Off" on the opposite team's Pressure settings. The CPU will leave their man off-ball quicker, leaving them open occasionally for drive-and-kicks on penetration.Concrete evidence/videos pleaseComment

I used this method once playing the lakers to contain Kobe. Worked well to stopping kobe from getting into the lane. I would up my defensive pressure slider a bit so your players can recover quicker to the shooters.O.G. - Original Gamer '87 NES

I think the Defensive Pressure settings affect help defense, because if you're sagging off of a player, you're obviously either not concerned about them offensively or much more concerned about another player, so the help defense is in better position since they're playing back off of the other players.
My LeBron kick out to Z is flawless because of thisComment

I'm sure most of you guys know that when you bring the ball up with your PG and stop at the top of the 3 point arc, the offense automatically runs a play.
It may have been like this for years but I just not realized that it happened about a few weeks ago. I may be late to the party.
I like this because it provides your offensive players with some nice wide open jump shots. I do this to limit the points in the paint for myself. Like my own sort of house rule when I find myself dumping it down low to often.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

I really like the "set all penetrating type guards / wings to double team in the post" in defensive mactch ups idea. It's working really well.
When guys like LBJ / Wade / Kobe / Melo drive into the paint now to drive...it's a war in there, there's not a lot of space and the D collapses.Comment

Re: In this thread, we post simple ways the player can make the gameplay more realist
This is a great thread.....Should be bumped....
Anyway......for me........I don't switch on defense.......I play with whoever had the ball last on offense.....Its much more realistic and my cpu defenders can do the same things the cpu can.......I don't have to have the sliders in my favor on HOF anymore, at least not for defense....
I also let the cpu call all my plays and I just do whatever they do.......unless its somebody who's not a threat score, for instance if Jeff Foster is posting up, I don't throw it to him, but I'll throw it to Murphy or Hibbard if they're calling for the ball.....
This brings a much better flow and balance to the game.....Its made it just as fun for me to play the CPU as it is against a human...
I also like the idea for adding accessories when players get hurt on my team......Its way too much to do that for everybody in the league but I'll do it for my team..
I don't switch over the cpu's side to change their settings.....I don't like the double team setting as I don't want the dominant players getting stuck in the double team tie up animation all the time....I think the CPU already does a good job of recognizing when to double players......And I'm pretty sure they sag off or play tight, deny players on their own....
The one thing that I don't do is switch my matchups against the cpu.....I don't put Bowen on Kobe because the CPU doesn't matchup with my players.....They don't put Kobe on Ginobli for instance unless they're playing the same position....I guess I could switch over and do this for the CPU...Comment

Re: In this thread, we post simple ways the player can make the gameplay more realist
I have to disagree on the computers ability to recognize when to double. In one of my associations i played with the spurs and teams would wait till the second quarter to start doubling. Sure if there was he had a guard on him, or a big with very weak post d they would double, but there would be games where i would drop 15-20 points with him in quarter 1 and they wouldn't even sag down to help. In my current associations i am the t-wolves. It doesn't matter what team i play, nobody helps on Al Jefferson and he is a beast. I don't mind the computer varying when they double or don't but i wish they would start the game out doubling on some players. It would make this strategy more effective for the computer if they brought back last years double and rotate defense, instead of this years double and every offense player freeze for 1.9 seconds or whatever it is.
They do do this and i have almost no problem with it. What he was saying was if you play as the Lakers or the Cavs and you play boston, you could switch sides and set the cpu's defense to sag off of every other player besides Lebron or Kobe because you want to shut down the lanes for them to drive. I have never tried this but it seems like a great idea. It would be cool however, if 2K implemented this defensive style for the computer that many teams use in real life. Also, i wish they could finally make the computer have bruce bowen guard kobe or lebron.Comment

Re: In this thread, we post simple ways the player can make the gameplay more realist
Inflate/Deflate Tendencies Based on Matchups: In real life, even the most fearless of all slashers will be somewhat hesitant to shoot over the shot-blocking beasts of the league.
The best post players in the league will generally not try to back down the stronger, larger centers in the league.
In Season/Association, you can inflate or deflate the tendencies of either your own players or your opponents' players depending on the team you're facing. For example, if you have Orlando, you can lower the "Close" tendencies of players on your team since players are less willing to shoot over Dwight Howard for fear of being blocked.
Or if you have Phoenix, you can turn down the opposing center's "Back to Basket" tendency since players aren't willing to try and back down Shaquille O'Neal.
Or if you have a defensively weak PG, you can turn up the "Back to Basket" tendency for the opposing starting PG if you're playing Utah or Philadelphia or Dallas, etc.
I'll post more later.Comment

what i started doing yesterday was raising guards that can shoot or shoot jumpers alot and big men that shoot mid ranges to at least 70 or 75. stars and great shooters i generally put in the 90s and would lower basically every players close shot tendency by 5 with the exception of guys like howard, bynum, shaq, etc"Ma'am I don't make the rules up. Yes, yes, yes. I use this "trick", and this makes the gameplay more realistic.I really like the "set all penetrating type guards / wings to double team in the post" in defensive mactch ups idea. It's working really well.

I read it in your topic here some month ago:

So I use this to make the game more real.
Play realistic !

Mile High Fatigue: Players in the NBA have noted that when they play at the Pepsi Center, home of the Denver Nuggets, the altitude causes them to get tired and lose their wind more than in other NBA arenas. Lowering your User Stamina slider when playing the Nuggets in Denver would achieve this effect.
Low Post Isolation: I noticed this recently-- I would get irritated when I would give the ball to a player in the low post and whoever gave him the entry pass would not cut baseline, as they do every time IRL.
I realized just now that it was because I was calling isolation as soon as the post player touched the ball. If you just give it to the post player and don't call any play, the player who delivered the entry pass will cut baseline almost every time, which is both convenient and realistic.Comment
