Re: Solution to CPU backdoor pass issue?

Whenever I start to have problems with the CPU hitting the HP and going backdoor on me I turn down my Defensive Pressure in the Coach Settings and that seems to stop it from happening anymore. The most common time a backdoor cut is used in real life is when you are putting a lot of pressure on the perimeter so the slip backdoor on you to try and get an easy two.

So, as I said, try turning down your defensive pressure settings.
    DSM Transfer.

It will switch if the game thinks you switched men. It's basically telling you that your teammate has now picked up on the other guy and you should be switching off.

It's an aid mostly for team play. It's just in the single player game, again, for beginners who can't pick up the switch. Unfortunately it highlights the poor switching done by your CPU AI teammates.
thats exactly what it is... the backdoors usually come as a result of the human player trying to guard the player they were assigned. with no reason to really have any any switches, the cpu takes it upon themselves to switch, leaving you to either find a man to guard, or you to try and reclaim your man, leaving that split second where the cpu will find that open player whos attempted to being guarded by your cpu teammates.

I have to physically change to my PG to run up on the other teams PG when they cross half court, if not, the cpu will switch defenders like crazy.. Its a very ugly defensive matchup system...

Maybe the who to guard icon is a detriment more than anything because i play with it on and usually look at it when I see my teammates switching so i know who my new man to guard is. but with it off, it just may be more natural.

      its worth a shot

Maybe that's the difference in what we are seeing and experiencing. That's exactly how I play. I take the PG every single time down the floor and match-up (read: lock-on) to my correct assignment as soon as I can.

The passing lanes slider is the fix for this. It doesnt eliminate all backdoor passes (It shouldnt because they do happen in real life) but your teammates will now reach out and deflect a majority of the backdoor passes. I think I have mine set at 80%.

hmmm...i downloaded your sliders and it kept happening. so, i'm not sure that will work for everyone. i could be wrong though, maybe other people with this problem can weigh in.

Re: Solution to CPU backdoor pass issue?

Try out the new BL Sim 2 sliders in the BL thread. They up the passing lanes a bit, but also up the defensive awareness...I think defensive awareness plays a large part in how well your AI respond to offensive plays the CPU is running.

I have my passing lane D set at around 70, and defensive awareness at maybe 80. I will have to double check when I get home tonight. But I noticed my D getting more steals on these backdoor plays and the CPU reluctantly not trying to go to that cheese move as often. But it still happens, and I got ally ooped (a word?) twice as well...so it still makes playing defense interesting and challenging.

By the way...I mostly always play on the point guard, and don't switch very often with my defenders. But then again...my team in association is like a 85 rating on defense...so this may help a lot.

What has been frustrating is even when I have some of my defenders set to "Sag Off", they are still getting beat back door, because as has been mentioned before, too many defenders don't seem to understand Ball-You-Man principles

That's o.k. if they have low Defensive awareness, but it should rarely happen if they are sound defenders. The passing lane tendency may end up being a solid solution.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

yeah, guys like duncan and bowen getting beat consistently backdoor has driven me crazy.

i don't think sliders are the answer, however, because some ppl have this problem and some don't. i think it has to do with how ppl play the game.

I share a similar experience after raising the passing lanes slider. I set it 90 and 100 at one point and I did notice a difference but I also notice the cpu AI will drive to the lane with just about anybody and force up a shot at some point. I mean they will constantly crossover if the ratings allow and big men will post you and drive to the bucket. Anyone else see this?

Unless you downloaded my second set, the problem will still be there. I dont have an issue with them now.

I noticed that too and I have a theory about that. What I think happens is that when you set a defender to sag off two things are happening. 1) they are playing for the drive instead of contesting the shot when their man has the ball and 2) when their man doesn't have the ball they are playing too much help defense. I thought switching to Sag Off would fix this too but it just caused more problems. When I turn the defensive pressure and leave defensive settings at Auto however it really cuts down on the amount of backdoor cuts that I give up.
