Re: NBA 2K9 Patch Released For 360/PS3, Impressions Here

Before the patch I was able to pass out of double teams easily. I was rarely forced to take a timeout. I've been in 5 double team situations and have been forced to take 5 timeouts. I don't know if my timing is off, but I have lost games because of not having that extra timeout available when the game came down to the wire.

Other than that, I'm finding it harder to score for both me and the cpu. There's a lot more block attempts that get rewarded and a few more turnovers. Every game for me is close.

is the intentional foul broken for others?...
I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...

They should have fixed the blocking issue. As it is now, the block animation is 2 times faster than shooting animations. While blocking is a quicker reaction type thing where it should be faster, it's just too much faster as it stands now. Maybe next year (if there is not a second patch) they can decrease the animation speed or not make the AI capable of swinging around with their back to you on the occasion to make a block.

As for what has been done in this patch, I don't like the fact now that even wide open non contested shots seem to miss A LOT. Also the fact that even if you are a little contested there is next to no chance the shot will go in, that is not entirely realistic. Players in the NBA are capable of making shot contested, yes the chances of making the shot should decrease with good defense and shot contesting, but it should not be as nearly low percentage as it appears to be post patch. That goes for 3 pointers and mid range.

This is all user error. Tune up your shot release and you'll see greater shot success. I have yet to shoot a low percentage in this game post patch.

No, it's definitely not. For one it tells you your performance on shot release after each game in VIP tendecies/stats etc. My shot release was in the perfect range for upwards of 85% +

Yes I reset it after the patch. It's on default, might actually increase it for me and the AI.

Iv noticed a lot of sliding like ice skating. I havnt seen this type of sliding before the patch. Chalmers was running across the court and he skated across the line like 20 feet.

agh, I really wish I could pin point what I'm doing wrong on defense... 42 points in the paint... 61% field goal percentage.. 19 total rebounds (against my 9)... i'm completely garbage when it comes to the inside lmao

I don't post here a lot but it amazes me to read one of these threads when new patch comes out. How many different opinions there are on what is fixed or broke with totally different views on whether the game is better or worse. "I can't back down", "I can back down", "shooting is much harder", shooting is much easier" etc. IMHO it speaks to how differently we all play the game.

                    FWIW I play on all-star..

My experience after two games with the patch is I can still play with the same sliders I was using (bizcanos v5) with minor tweaks.

I turned up "layup success" to counter the PiP scoring being harder. Layup success in bizcanos was too low IMHO as a way to keep shooting percentage down to realistic levels.

I left inside shooting the same which surprised me a little. I anticipated having to tweak that upwards a bit with the patch.

Outside shooting I decreased slightly as it became easier to hit open shots (ie more realistic IMHO). Prepatch only Kobe and Vujacic were hitting threes at a realistic level. Post patch if I find the open guy, ie Radmanovich, Fish, Walton, Farmar, they will more than likely hit the shot. Same if the D sinks in to take away passing lanes to the inside.

The only other thing I have changed so far is the human commit fouls. My last game prepatch was at Philly and Odom actually fouled out and Bynum was in trouble all game. My two game post patch I hardly committed any fouls but maybe some of that was due to the opponent, Washington and Milwaukee.

So, other than shooting pct being a bit high and fouls a bit low the game played well with my current sliders.

I like the new post play better than the old. I agree with others that you can make a move if your guy gets good position before receiving the pass. If he has one foot in the lane he should be good to go. One foot right on the edge of the lane he has a chance. If he gets the ball a foot from the lane he's pretty much toast and can either face up or kick it out.

As far as the cpu always cutting back door I didn't see it (at unrealistic levels) prepatch nor post patch. But with this years version I concentrate harder playing defense than I do offense, because I think, like real life, to be successful you have to. I switch to guys on the wings and take away the backdoor cuts if I think they are coming.

                    Thumbs up so far

I just quit a game in the 4th quarter after the Grizzlies built up a 22 point lead (they had over 110+ points with 8 minutes left) over the Hornets. Gay and Mayo were hitting ever single jumpshot and if they weren't making jumpshots they were cutting to the basket for wide open layups. I can't control every player at the same time, so if I'm defending Mayo/Gay on the ball, West and Chandler basically just stand around.

I'm not really sure what I was doing wrong on defense in that game and I was on track to go over 100 points in the game myself. I would switch down to West and Chandler to keep the CPU from getting post-up position and inside the key and to try and disrupt any screens. Apparently the Gasol and Arthur/Warrick have some great moves 'cause they would shake West and Chandler out of their shoes up on the perimeter and drive in for a wide-open dunk.

I actually switched to HOF after this game and was playing defense more effectively with the same strategy as the previous game.

you guys have solidified my decision to take this game back before I open it.

It's a shame that they didnt just build onto what 08 was, but instead it sounds like they went too far in one direction.

Bad decision if you ask me. If you want the best basketball game in the market today then 2k9 is that. It is far from perfect but it is the best being offered to consumers at the moment.
