The shot release is fine in general, save for some bad sig animations, but the isomotion is just dreadful. The ballhandler will spaz all over the court, as if he's having a seizure.

I am not impressed this thread.

NBA2k9 is arguably the best sports game ever released.

Oh well, it is your loss.

        Says you.

Just as you have an opinion, other people do too. My opinion is that this could be an amazing game, but certain flaws spoil much of the fun.

Again, all the other posts I've read just scream lack of skill....I'm sorry, you may not like it but thats how I see it....

My players don't "spaz" all over the court while I'm dribbling because I've mastered isomotion(which is not hard by the way).

I shoot just fine with pretty much anybody......None of that nonsense you guys are talking about before you go up with a shot....Some players sig shots are off of course and it can be tougher to shoot with them but still, its just about mastering the shots....Play somebody online who is actually good and uses Boston.....Some players can may Ray, Ray, play just as smooth as real life, slow release and all........

I can work isomotion as well as anyone out there but their points are not without validity.

It's the nature of the system and there is no way you have 100% control of what you do. You may think you do... you may play within the system that 2k9 has.. but in NO WAY can you do every single move without running into an animation that puts you in a spot on the floor that you didn't want to be.

Re: Just played NBA 2K9 for the first time ever and..

I have both the 360 and PS3 versions, and the PS3 version is definitely less responsive. I played both of them today, and it was like night and day to me to get my player to do what I wanted him to do on the PS3 version. Are you guys that are having problems playing with the PS3 version?

Both Timid and Pared make some pretty good points, and the truth to me is somewhere in the middle. You do have to get used to the game, and you do have to learn to play within its "system". But, that's true of most sports games.

NBA 2k is a very very good game overall. I'm getting NBA Live from the library tomorrow to check it out, but I have a hard time believing it has surpassed 2k yet. Maybe if you are getting tired of 2ks style, it might be fresh to you.

but it's funny how you mention the slick presentation at half-time ...for me it's a bit weak - i mean why show desks and a set with no-one sitting at them ....looks stupid.
I would love to know how you fixed that.

This problem is really annoying. Two instances, when you call a play off pick and roll and after getting the ball pass half court, the PG will motion backward for a possible back court violation.

there's a difference between shot release and the footplanting they put in since 2K8. i think the people complaining about slow releases are counting the time for player to set their feet as well.

like ray allen... if he's in a shooting position and you pass him the ball, the release is ultra-quick. but when he's curling off of a screen and you pass, the player will first set his feet towards the basket, then take the shot.

this is a basketball fundamental, but unfortunately it isnt realistic in alot of cases. players can take a jumper with their feet set "wrong" in real life, it happens quite alot. they should tune the footplanting feature so that we can choose to take the quick shot (off balance) at a lower %, or set our feet and take a higher % shot in balance.

In 2K, when a player receives the ball after a screen and does shoot without setting his feet, it's always a wild fadeaway that has no hope of going in or something along those lines. I do agree that we need more animations for quick shots.

Absolutely. Glad to see such discussions goin on about this game. I wasn't sure if it was just me or not, lately. This is my second go around with 2K9, and now I've noticed these things as well. In practice mode, I can make every shot from all over the court with a 92 rating. But in games, it's so much more difficult to make quick jumpers-very frustrating.
As far as the ISO is concerned....spaz nation. Yep, players having seizures all over the floor, for sure. Not smooth at all. WTH?!
I don't get it. What kind of testers test these games?! Does no one....at all, simply say "Hey, that doesn't look right. Can we make that better?" I guess they say that long before they decide to leave it the slightly crappy mess they end up as-scary.
I assume more memory is the answer, which is why I can't help but think to get rid of so many of the features that take up precious power, that could be used to focus on the actual genre fundamentals.
If it's a basketball game bein made, basic player movement and A.I. is essential.
But, that's with every game! But, instead, developers insist on cramming in a bunch of new gimmicky features and modes.
Bioshock is a excellent example of keeping the focus on the primary goal. The result-an unbelieveable, unforgettable, and unmatched experience.

Imagine if we were given only 1 or 2 seasons for a sports game, without office mode, or superstar mode, or a dunk contest, etc.
But those 1 or 2 seasons were the most realistic, engrossing, deep experiences ever. Realistic player movement, insane graphics, insane crowd A.I., insane player A.I., insane control, and great cameras, flawless, smooth gameplay!!!! A basketball season is 82 games! If it were the most incredible b-ball game ever, 82 games would be more than enough to greatly enjoy the entire experience of the NBA.
And would whet our appetite more than enough, until the next incredibly focused 82 game season. No office mode, no superstar mode, no 10 year franchise, none of that stuff, unless there is plenty of memory, that is. Focus on an 82 game season like a campaign, instead of the same exact recycled gameplay, A.I., and presentation in every game...of all 10 years of a franchise-geesh. Yes?

                            GAMEPLAY
                            • Controls felt unresponsive
                            • Releasing shots took entirely too long
                            • Players skate around the court

                            GRAPHICS
                            • Impressive arenas and crowds.. (some player faces seemed off compared to NBA Live 09)
                            • Very well polished

                            PRESENTATION
                            • Very good pre-game,halftime presentations
                            • Menus were not easy to scroll through

I'm not sure what it was, but this game didn't feel good to play at all..Everything just simply felt weird and i didn't feel in control.
Play it a little more. I thought it sucked at first, but when I really started playing it, it got really fun.

I HATE how Players skate also! I hope they fix this...This is why defense is soo hard because they skate around and you cant stay in front of them. Maybe if they lower player speed.

I have both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions right now, and I think the PS3 players skate more. Anyone else feel this way? For those of you having skating problems are you on the PS3 or 360.
