This is dumb! I thought you can change it to 12 mins. With that being said,

i am sure everyone wants to be able to customize the length of the quarter, but i want to know the developers reasoning. I would rather not be able to take 'my player' online and have a personalized offline experience...but that's jsut me

Also, why not have a real petition from one of those petition websites?

If I had known about this I wouldn't have bought the Draft Combine. How disappointing, I was really looking forward to My Player.

I'm fine with everyone having to play with same amount of minutes so there won't be a curve but 5 is too little. Only reason I can see why they have it like this is the less minutes the faster the games go and they're hoping this will lead you to going further into you career than lets say playing 12 minute quarter.

I agree, I would rather play it offline only, and be able to fully edit settings with my preferences, than have to sacrifice that for online.

Well, the petition started on 2K Forums, but OS seems to be more "mature", and 2k developers seem to check it more than their own forums. So, I think that's enough, but if needed why not a "real" petition

Re: Sign your name here if you want 8-12 minute quarters for my player mode.

again, i get the reasoning. It is just sth where you should have a distinction between an offline and an online option, which would then satisfy everbody.

And if that´s the reasoning it doesn´t make sense either. I mean, the guys playing 12 min quarters also progress much slower in their career as the 5 min guys more likely than not would play twice as many games on average in the same amount of time.

So does this mean we can´t change season length either ? Oh boy, and i hoped it´d be franchise mode but with 1 player ...

For a good offline experience you need the possibility to adjust the minutes, the length of the season, a possibility to simulate games instead of playing them, just like in franchise mode.

An 82 game NBA season is not made for a my player mode anyway, much easier done in Football with 16. So 5 minute will shorten it, but 10 minutes, 58 games and simulate every other game would be the way to go for me.
Propably just going to play player lock in Franchise.

Their reasoning doesn't make a whole lot of sense though. From the stats they put up you supposedly at 2000 points for 5 minute games, so 10 minute games would give you 4000 points. Then like someone responded on that thread its no different from playing 2 5-minute games or 1 10-minute game. So it doesn't really cater to the casual gamer.

Not only that, but say a casual gamer only plays 1 5 minute game a day. There are no restrictions whatsoever on how many games you can play per day. So someone who's "hardcore" can play 4 5-minute games or 2 10-minute games and ends up with 4 times more skill points in the end. The "hardcore" player will always be ahead no matter what.

It's all based on the amount of time you put into playing your character. I guarantee that no one would sit through all 40 minutes of court time. Those who want 10 minutes quarters are free to do so, and if they don't have time to watch all 40 minutes they can either save in-game and wait for another time to finish, or use the court-side simulator to skip the time you're on the bench. In the end you'll most likely play around 10-20 minutes until you become a solid NBA player.

Just make the quarter length variable to suit those who wish to play quick games and those who wish for realism.

Edit - Btw put my name down. I know I just recently registered, but I've been lurking around for a while, and have been a fan of the 2k series since back in the Dreamcast days. :P I miss that console.

put my name down... this totally killed my buzz about my player.. it needs to be at least 7 or 8 mn qtrs if they cant let us choose our own qtr length.

If you earn less points per event for more minutes, or if they do what they really should and cap skill points per game then it wouldn't be an issue. The key to good game design is giving people options. This is really bad for people who have bad training camps and for those stuck behind starters. Ken was lucky enough to get slated for 12 min per game which is only 5 minutes. That was with him having a good training camp on a team with suspect point guards. What if you're a Center on the Orlando Magic? You'll be lucky to see 3 min per game. How is that enough to improve and impress the coaches? Even if most people don't want to be bothered to play in long games it would be great for them to crank up the time for when they aren't seeing the court, and then turn it down for when their minutes get heavy.

Anothe problem 2K's currently facing is that they're fighting hackers with encryption on their save which is something that can always be broken. If, however, they were smarter they'd cap SP per game. Meaning that with a few simple formulas taking into account how many games you've played and how many milestones you've hit there's only so much SP you should have at any given time. This would allow the system to check and see if you've earned too much before allowing the file to be saved or uploaded.

I'm not pleased that the need for uniformity because of Online play has locked all of us into these shorter quarters. This has definitely taken some of the shine off of this mode for me.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

This is ridiculous... was really looking forward to this game mode and cheering on my team when I was on the bench, 5 minute quarters is unforgivable though.
