totally agree with you. especially about the dunks. now i see what DC was talking about, about all the flashy dunks in traffic that was in the last 2k's i played. no longer is it a dunkfest anymore. and all the dunks in traffic are either simple and/or strong.

So what you thought I was making that _ _ _ _ up for the sake of wasting keystrokes?

i liked how i was playing a game on halloween and they had all these spooky halloween themes and sounds during the game...to be honest it scared me because i wasnt paying attention at the time.

I could see if you were playing Resident Evil or something but playing a basketball game in broad daylight scared you as a grown man?

Playing the POR/HOU game from opening night and they just showed an overlay and talked about an upcoming game for Halloween night. They even had special graphics to go along with the overlay (ghost and pumpkin).

So far, I've seen 4 overlays during deadballs and I'm only in the 2nd quarter. This is why I'll probably stick with 2k for franchise mode.

between the overlays and the commentary I may never play a online game all year.. I was floored when they Started talking about the players previous game. Then when I thought it couldn't get better they started promoting future big games. Even ones that did not include my team.

It's not over done.. It just makes the sig shots up to speed with the rest of the game speed. Unlike last year where some digs shots took forever to release.

Just got finished playing the Mavs and the framerate was horrible. It honestly felt like I was playing some one online with a bad connection.

Being a Mavs fan this is a gamebreaker for me

That has to be one of the biggest changes for me in the game. How all the overall speed of jump were faster. I actually don’t like it. I think that what give NBA 2k it’s on style. Everyone had a different release. I anyone remember LeBron’s sig shot…and how late it was. Well this year his sig shot is too quick. It a stupid thing to sit here and complain about. But in opinion I don’t like it. I was trying out Duncan and like his slow release from last. Is as quick as Mr. Granger which is stupid.

No, they really aren't as fast.They're all faster but the speed differentiation is still there.

This coming from someone that despised Boozer's 4 second jumpshot last year.

These are NBA players we're talking about here. They don't shoot slow enough to get consistently blocked like some of the shots were this year.

Two thumbs up for the change.

Finally got it!

Firstly to the naked eye the game doesnt look like much of a departure from 2k9 at all. However once you start to play it you realise that they are night and day. I personally can never play 2k9 again after playing this game. The graphics are perhaps the best I have ever seen in any sports game, that change in skin mapping and lighting makes a subtle but very noticeable difference in the look of the game. I thought last year was pretty but this year its almost photo-realistic.

On the court the first thing to greet me was the new game intros with the arena flair and flashing lights....very well done but could have been brought up a notch with actual starting line up intros instead of a notice graphic. At tip off players move smoothly and less "jerky" than they did last year and it looks much better. Immediately the thing that grabs me is the player proportions and court dimensions are now perfect. The difference in spacing makes a mammoth difference and to this day 2k10 seems to be the only bball game to get this right. Even in the live demo they have not created the right player and court dimensions and IMO it greatly affects the look and gameplay of an otherwise stellar experience.

Anyway, 2k10 is addictive too, you'll want to play over an over again. Not only because of the newness factor but because for the first time the 2k series AI seems to actually play basketball to beat you. In previous years I would watch in horror as pin point thread needle passes go through my player or unstoppable backdoor cuts etc. Now the cpu moves the ball and finds the open man. Point guards drive and dish etc. Sometimes they move the ball even a little too well. The dunks have been tweaked so that no one takes off from the top of the key anymore and rockets to the hoop. The jumpshots look great and are faster so that you can pull up over a defender and not worry so much about being blocked. The rebounding is great and rim physics are even more improved...something i think the competition lacks. Player movement is great as well and players no longer jog through their plays.

I am having and excellent experience so far with 2k10. I am sure in time I will find many flaws to pick on (alley oop hell) but for now this game is definately a 9/10. They didnt reinvent the wheel but they put some 22 inch rims on there and now We Ballin!

Speaking of shot variation, everyone must now that the practice mode shot release critique is broken in 2K10. I don't know about yall, but I spend a great deal of time perfecting shot releases before I jump into a game. Likewise, I always put the difficulty in practice mode to superstar to account for the level that I play on in online leagues. Nearly EVERYTIME I release the shot in practice mode with a slightly late, or very late release, I get a swish. In contrast, when I release the ball early or get the suggested "perfect release" it doesnt go in in nearly as often. After extensive testing, I realized that you have to release the ball slightly late in order to reach the peak point of every players release; essentially releasing at the top of the jump. Utterly confused by the lack of correct information with regard to shot releases in practice mode, I finally realized that "in game" situations, especially with regards to catch and shoots and shots of the dribble, you essentially have to hold the release slightly longer in order to elevate over the defenders as well as getting that "squared up" feeling prior to releasing your jumpshot.

With that said, I played this game all weekend to the point of having a sore thumb. It is addictive, especially when you utilize "Pared Tweak Sliders" to nerf the CPU shot making ability and percentages. With 10 minute quarters, I find myself finally competitive with the CPU game in and game out for the first time in a 2K basketball game, without me having to exploit or abuse the A.I. with cheap tricks, i.e. lead passing all day. I have always avoided playing the CPU in the past because, I felt they AI would simply cheat and frustrate the hell out of me. Now, I am about to start an association for the first time ever because the CPU AI on All Star and tweaked sliders are giving me great competitive games. The supposed increased tendency of defensive break downs are nullified when you play off ball defense. This was a huge adjustment for me, because my past online experiences had conditioned me to playing on ball defense at all times, which will get you killed in 2K10. Setting the auto double team to "NEVER" is MUST if you plan on not inducing a migraine by switching to account for out of position defenders all possession long.

One last thing that I wanted to dessiminate to the community is this new off ball player lock feature that may or may not have been in previous 2K's, but I am just now seeing the importance of. It is the ability to not only assign a player off-ball to post up, come of screen, get open, etc; however, you now have the ability to press "RB" once you select the player off ball, and TAKE CONTROL of the player for the entire possession or momentarily to run him around screens, set picks, call for alley hoops, etc. This feature has completely revamped the game for me with regards to offensive strategy. It even lets you run a more effective and dynamic fast break; what with the ability to take control of a streaking player filling the lane and even call for an alley hoop by pressing "Y."

Here is an example (2nd highlight) of me taking control of Dwade, run him around BEasy, and then calling for and completing an alley hoop by pressing "Y." If you have a high basketball I.Q., this new player lock feature will really enhance your offensive attack in setting up your players at their hot spots and what not.

If you run plays, take what the CPU gives you in the form of not forcing it to the paint every time, play sound defense by not switching defenders like a maniaic every possesion, and take the the time to learn player shot releases, then this game will reward you. Play foolish bball like the majority of clowns do in ranked games, and it will punish and frustrate you. I especially loved beating some clown on a ranked match in which said playrer turboed around with Kobe all game long, only to deplete his energy so much so that he was only effective for about 1/3 of the quarters, turning the ball over, bricking dunks, and layups, etc. After the game, the cheeser sent me a message about how this years game sucked and that he was returning it ASAP and going back to 2K9. Let's just hope the developers stand firm and not patch out the new turbo conservation feature.

In a nutshell NBA 2K10=G.O.A.T. For the record, I played Live for a bit yesterday with friend, and was so glad that I did not buy that game. Sure it has come a long way from its putrid efforts of late, but cartoony player models coupled with the inadequate animations, atleast in comparison to the competition, will simply not keep you as immersed as you are in 2k10. I also heard about Live's supposed emphasis on "control." I found that although the dribbling mechanic was responsive, it was not the type of responsive that I was looking for. I would pull of crazy moves that seemed canned and not analagous with my input on the right stick. I checked the Live forums and people were uploading highlights of dribbles that they didnt even intend to do with any kind of input, especially the dribbles that break ankles. Furthermore, the dribbling in Live might be nice, but the lack of defensive counter to the dribbles was a big let down.
