Re: Official NBA 2k10 Impressions Thread

Got the game at a Gamestop midnight release in Cincinnati. Same story here - only one person in attendance got Live.

Was on my way home then my wife calls asking me to get her a Hershey bar. Arrgghhh, so that delays me for about 10 minutes. Finally get home and she's watching TV. I immediately kick her off (nicely of course) and pop in 2K10. Wanting to challenge myself at 12:30AM after a 14 hour day at work, I immediately put the game on Hall of Fame with 10 minute quarters and play as the Nets versus the Magic. I lost like 132 - 92, but it was a lost I can live with lol.

    Quick impressions:

    - Dwight Howard annihilated me. He shot like 80% from the field and ended up with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Yes, I agree with everyone now that shooting sliders are needed, but I am happy to see that star players are a problem.

    - Signature play is where it is. Devin Harris definitely feels different than Rafer Alston.

    - The graphics look scarily realistic on the close ups. I didn't go into any replays, but anyone who says this looks exactly like 2K9 needs to get a new TV.

    - I play on the PS3, and I didn't experience any slowdown.

    - The game speed is a little fast for my taste, but that's what sliders are for so no gripes there.

    - I was expecting a little more physicality downlow. It's still pretty easy to score in the paint. I think the Magic ended up with 80 points in the paint, and I ended up with like 70.

    - After slider adjustments, I can see myself really enjoying the game this year.

    - The CPU offensive AI is smart and less predictable than in previous iterations.

I'm going to get a game in real quick before I head to work for some more impressions, but things are already looking like I'm going to enjoy the game this year.

Re: Official NBA 2k10 Impressions Thread

Picked this up yesterday, so I played for a long bit last night, and my first impressions were fairly positive, although the majority of my playing time was spent with the My Player mode, so that may cloud my judgment a bit.

I started my playing time with My Player, and I was easily able to download my character, created a month ago in Draft Combine, from the 2K servers and continue on with his career. He was a PG, taken 17th overall by the Sixers (who still took Holiday as well, so I may have some competition to win the starting spot).

Unlike some other players I've read, I was able to run with 12 min quarters (which does feel a bit long, but I can skip major portions of the game I'm not involve din and I love the absolute realism of it) and the game played as perfectly as I imagined. I sensed some changes from Draft Combine as it pertains to the judging/scoring of my teammate rating and the CPU also did not make any of the stupid passes seen from DC. Other than that, it felt mostly the same as DC, which isn't a bad thing by any means.

And I gotta say, I can already see myself spending A TON of time with this mode, as it's just friggin addicting! And I think others will gladly concur. I mean I was finally able to upgrade my ball-handling skills into the 80s, and once you get access to the all-star dribble moves, you instantly feel such an upgrade to your ability to beat your repitoire and your ability to beat your man off the dribble. I simply can't wait to unlock further sets now, and I'm not even out of the Summer League set of games yet!

Well, I'll probably touch upon association/NBA Today once I get to those (and probably rush head on into those framerate issues, which I haven't experienced yet) but My Player definitely has my total interest for now.

LOL, I'm only responding cuz I'm bored but the best part of this post is your desire to turn off the auto post feature. I don't have any bugs in my games so far and I've played a lot since Friday!

Make the game to your liking via sliders, etc...You have control of fatigue either via turning it off or actually playing sim basketball...you may want to try the latter first though.

          Enjoy!

Why would I come up here and lie?....This was one of my biggest flaws in my opinion last year. If you had the game for PS3 last year. It was not enjoyable at all. Most of my friends went to Live just because the 2k9 online sucked so much. It wasn't worth playing it.

edit: alley oops are getting on my nerves. Yesterday I saw a 360 alley oop LAY UP by MIchael Finley!! I thought they took it out in 2k8 after the patch. Saying something like "They felt it was unrealistic." Why put that back in the game?

Don't get me wrong I'm a HOF or Die guy too. But sometimes you need all star because the computer controlled player who have high defensive awareness make too many steals at times. For a user that is not doing anything. Know what I mean?

I'm suprised on my first game out of the box, honestly. Stats through one quarter of Kings @ Blazers:

                      Kings: 2
1/12 FGs (including about 4 wide open bricks) 8%
                      0/5 3Pts
2 points in paint (putback dunk by Jason Thompson at the end of the quarter over a helpless Steve Blake)

                      Blazers: 13
                      6/8 FGs 75%
                      1/3 3Pts
                      5 assists
                      2 blocks

for a game with ridiculous shooting percentages it sure is easy to shut the Kings down, I'm not even trying

Yeah, they've come back on my and it's 10-19 now, but they were getting turnovers. Overall I'm not having any problems with this game out of the box though. GREG ODEN is a monster; I have 3 blocks with him at half including 2 on the past two trips down the floor. First he stuffed Kenny Thomas on a weak double fake fadeaway jumper out of the post up. On the next play Thomas "beat" Oden to the basket (aka Oden just let Thomas walk around him), but when he went up for one of those casual underneath lay-ins Oden swatted it against the backboard. I'm uploading that play to 2K.com but I didn't realize it would autorevert to Broadcast view, so it probably won't be good quality. Oh well.

Clutch factor might need work, Kings only scored more than 8 points in the 4th quarter - where they scored 19.

Oden was player of game with 3 put back dunks, 5 blocks and 12 points overall. Kings FG% was 39% Blazers was 55%.

Interestingly, I have almost no problems with this game out of the box on Pro besides I slaughtered the Kings but isn't that the point? Now I'm going to try a non-NBA Today game against a non-scrimmage opponent, Denver vs. Lakers.

I've only played for about 20 minutes, but, man, this is going to take some getting used to. Everything feels kinda spastic.
