Re: Official NBA 2k10 Impressions Thread

What you guys are saying about defense is all well and good, but when the ball constantly morphs through your hand, it's just AI cheating plain and simple, and it happens all the time. On offense, I don't even know why people bother giving advice or using Isomotion. Just use the pick and roll and dunk.

Oh? Don't use the pick and roll? That's a fine solution. Let's just throw away the single most used play in basketball because it's broken in this "simulation". Please. I need someone to drop a video to start believing this game is a sim.

2k9 was unplayable vs. the CPU and 2k10 is no different. Only this year, there is a fine alternative.

If you ignore all of the glitches, bugs, frametrate and online issues, this is a great arcade basketball game.

I agree on the defense....and with some of your points Born....but as far as MORPHING...if your saying this game is the worse of the two, your simply turning a blind eye...LOL

Re: Official NBA 2k10 Impressions Thread

It's not the amount of morphing, it's where the morphing is occurring. Frankly, this isn't about comparison. I'm kind of tired of people bringing up the other game to justify one game's sins. The window to contest a shot in 2k is very small. They sped up the jump shots. All good. But when you morph the ball through my hand on a shot contest, it gets beyond the point of giving defensive tips.

I'm sure there are things that people could be doing better, but let's not pretend that just playing sound defense is going to yield realistic results. Both on contesting shots and on lead passes, I'm seeing regular morphing situations that make it impossible to defend. If I stand between my man and the basket on a cut, I've done my job. Reward me. Don't slide and morph through me to the basket. If I contest a shot and my hand touches the ball, I've done my job on defense. Reward me. That's good defense.

And you're talking to a guy who gets a ton of shot blocks, incidentally. It's not about winning or losing. It's about the mechanic being broken. Not only should I not have the ball and player morphing through me in these situations, but the CPU player should recognize that it doesn't have an advantage, and attempt something else in the first place. In a simulation, the offensive player doesn't just pull up in someone's face or attempt to run through them. These are low percentage situations that plays are designed to avoid. These should be last resort plays, even from an attempt standpoint.

Re: Official NBA 2k10 Impressions Thread

I just played another game on Hall of Fame, and although I still lost I'm finally closing the gap. I lost 113 (Raptors) - 102 (Hornets, Me). 10 Min Quarters, every foul slider maxed out except reaching, inside shot at 35 for human and cpu, close shot at 40, mid range at 45, 3 pt at default, lay up at 45, dunk at 45, and dunk in traffic at 35. I normally play with dunk at 40 just to make the sliders look "pretty" but I wanted to test something out for this game. My dunk setting may be low for most people's taste because some dunks were blown but I like it this way because now no shot is automatic.

The key to this game was that I stayed patient. I tried to take only good shots and only forcing the shot if the shot clock was winding down. Chris Paul was in foul trouble throughout the game, so without him making plays, I had to settle for a lot of bad shots. I probably could have won this game if I had capitalized on free throws and stayed out of foul trouble with CP3.

Bottomline, Hall of Fame is balanced this year for me. I can force the cpu to miss shots (again sliders are important, on default there's no chance), I can actually battle on the boards now (not the case with previous 2Ks on Hall of Fame), and I love that ratings matter. I play with autosub on, and the cpu gave me Devin Brown a lot of times at the point. I didn't call a single play the whole game. The game moves your players around for you, so I just waited for the cuts and screens to happen on its own.

P.S. I wanted to add that I had 7 blocks in the game, all user controlled. I got 3 with Okafor. The morphing, while still there, isn't nearly as bad as last year.
According to my old marketing professor, satisfaction is when product performance meets or exceeds consumer expectation.

Can't you lower the success of pick and roll strength/success for the user in the short term until a patch is made? Or just stop playing altogether inorder to lower the stress this game is causing you. I know you are genuine in your opinion because you were a big fan of the series before 2k9.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

@ Born...weve discussed this at length already...and I agree with alot your points. But when you throw your "fine alternative" in there, your opening the door. "Covering sins" has nothing to do with it, but ill definitely hold you to that comment though, move on..lol

It's not causing me any stress at all. I'm dominating in My Player and beginning to catch up on Blake Griffin in the ROY race

I actually enjoyed 2k9 very much, but I had to marginalize it as a strictly player vs. player game. PvP against OSers, it was a lot of fun, and a I played it a lot. Association was dead to me though. Wholly unrealistic.

Same thing this year. 2k10 isn't realistic, so I just marginalize it to its area of effectiveness for me, which is some fun arcade bballing in My Player. I didn't pay for it, so I ain't mad.

Do you not think there is a fine alternative for a realistic playing bball game?

I would say its for backboard or glass or bank shots. I just don't know about the word "clutch". Last year I use to hold it down because it made the players set their feet quicker.

The game looks nice, that's it. The gameplay experience against the cpu is the absolute WORST. They make EVERY shot. 5/5 3 pt halfway through the first qtr. ALL of them contested and some near half court? WOW, totally unplayable unless playing against another human.

Are you saying sliders don't remedy the high CPU shooting percentages? Because if they do, you need to get off your lazy can and do some slider adjusting instead of whining that the game doesn't suit your tastes out of the box.
It's on me. I shook his hand too hard. It was a hard ... kind of a slap-shake.

Sliders don't work in Ranked games and My Player. If you can't use sliders in every game mode, then it needs to play better OOTB.

Why don't people state this when they discuss their problems with the game. It seems that a lot of the issues are with the online product but the way it's stated makes it seem like sliders don't work offline. I don't know if what I said makes sense.
