This happens quite frequently. Smoove has been at these videos since last season. When I saw the Youtube name I just started to laugh because I knew how true things were going to be said. I recorded mine last night and it happened so often I just turned off the game. I can control all of one to two players at a time, but an entire five man crew is asking a bit much.

      Defense settings
      Man to man
      'Never' for double team

      coach settings
      Zero help defense
      Zero double team
      Zero zone usage
      defensive pressure 100

I play on ball, off ball and, guard a pass lane or hole, depending on the situation. In all these cases I was in most part one player testing to see what would happen. It took place in all situations. I'm converting my recordings now to upload. I'll post them later.

Defense in this game is not that bad at all. On defense, stick to one defender then when kick out happen, quickly switch to the nearest defender. Sliders help also.

i dont see the problem in these videos. looks legit to me, both videos someone was driving and someone came to help. it sounds like some 2k fans just want players to stay on there man and that simply does not happen in real life. teams will lose with that type of defense

In a zone defense, sure. That should not be happening in any form of defense play when called for man on man/no double team nor should the players be that far sagged off the defensive man.

i dont know what nba games people be watching but nba defense is different than consumers perception i see. 2k10 really did capture true life simulation defense this year in relation to the nba

                just check out this video

1:16 this is not a zone defense, this is man to man but look how far players are from there man.

:46 man to man but look at the defenders on the wing they are sagging off as well

at 3:13 do i need to say anything else!!!!!????

i dont know what games people watching but obviously its not the NBA. 2k10 is the best simulation to date because of what i just tried to prove

Re: Is defence really this bad in 2k10??!!

Sorry didnt take the time to read through the whole post. The wondering cpu defense happens way to much during the course of the whole game. I got the game a couple of days before release and I posted some of my likes and dislikes. I call them WTF CPU moments, when they just leave there man wide open. It gets worse as the game goes on, diffidently in the fourth quarter when the 4th quarter comeback is activated. I truly believe these things happen purposely to give the cpu an advantage. Theres two many moments where you want to throw the controller against the wall.

I dont think that plays like this dont happen in the game of basketball. I just hate that I have to come up with excuses why the defense plays the way it does. I think as gamers we should be responsible for our actions. But for some reason year by year I fill like I lose control of things that made this series great. We all know as pretty as it is, the game is animation driven. I still cant tell if a post fadeaway/drift shot has a release point or not. Please loosen that blindfold and hopefully the patch cleans everything up.

And just wanted to add, Ive just bought 2k10 for PC also. And If you think it looks good on 360/ps3, its ten times better on PC. This game is beautiful from front to end and when it comes to basketball theres no other option.

You're looking at situational plays, not the side of the court, not where they are or what action is surrounding the event in that Top 10 clip. There are factors you're attempting to point out, yet don't know exactly whether someone is to be sagging, helping, or doubling. That's not a good comparison, considering I've specified EXACT while you present a variable.

3:13 Kobe Bryant is basically in the paint.

:46 The entire play is in the paint and the person not guarded is Bosh at the free-throw.

3:13 Is man on man help defense from the weakside. It's the end of the game with a mismatch in favor of the offense. What were you expecting.

Intruda, I do agree with you, there are players that basically space out and stand there while their man gets wide open. Mismatches still continues in this game considering the PG runs down and stands in the center position. Then you have to try and rotate him out to avoid a mismatch. That shouldn't happen.

I think 2k10 is on the right track and will get even better. But it might just on my 360/pc version. But if the cpu throws the ball into the post when im playing the wing defender sldes behind me and the offensive player and doesnt make any type of play on the ball. If the Center has the ball and my PF tries to help, hes usually stuck somewhere between my back and the basket. When running back after a missed shot, my players when im playing all run into the paint and usually wing players are WIDE OPEN. Your not rewarded on defense like you are on offense.

I hold the CPU to under 50% almost every game and I can play defense. But theres no excuses to alot of the random things that the defense doesnt postition themselves well. I think there needs to be more 3 player animation added to help out.

im not saying its perfect but its missing some logic like players staying on stars and letting well known defenders play one on one but its no question that 2k10 captures true life defenses style of TODAY's NBA.

people just seem to think this game has bad defense but all i see is what i watch everyday of the NBA season.

The defensive AI is horrendous. Rotations are terrible. I do not have a problem with the auto double team or anything else by themselves. The problem is only with rotations. When a big is doubled down low teams are supposed to rotate in a manner that leaves the guy on the other side of the court open. The idea is to force the big guy to try a cross court pass, which attempting while under pressure is extremely hard. But on this game, there is no logic or plan with rotations. Sometimes players rotate for no reason or actually move themselves out of position.

Another thing that may possibly help is the "smoothness" of the players. I find that controls on defense are very jagged and sub-par.Yes, I have defensive assist off.

Many times in the NBA players are left open on the perimeter, even the sharpshooters, but defenders close out extremely quick on the shooter. You simply cannot do that on this game. Mostly because the controls are not as good.

Be nice to have a slider for pass speed, as that could be a cheap fix.

My thoughts exactly. Adjusting sliders help a bit, but it still doesn't fix the lack of defensive rotation. I can handle the middle just fine when I play center on defense, but that doesn't stop the perimeter players from camping just outside the key to leave a shooter wide open for a easy bucket.

By the time I'm able to switch to them and run towards the shooter it is way too late due to the awkward resistance you get when moving around on defense.

If I play defense with a guard, that leaves the paint open for an easy bucket since the AI seems to be able to waltz their way inside for a great position. It's really frustrating when you're doing your best to play good defense and have it ruined by some stupid AI who doesn't man up.
