Re: Defensive Help Thread: NBA 2K10
-The 2-3 Zone is VERY effective this year if you mix it in for stretches, especially when the momentum is against you. You can pick up some game-changing turnovers when the zone has a chance to settle in. Make sure you call these early though...calling a zone mid possession is a guaranteed blown assignment and easy score for the opponent. I wish the announcers wouldn't always give away when you call it tho, lol.
-When looking to create contact on the perimeter, don't try to body up...anticipate where they're going, shade them that way, and let them run into you.
-Also, use the contest shot drills in My Player and association! Can't stress enough how much this drill will tell you about your spacing. You will not believe how rigid the system is when determining the quality of your defensive position. A rule of thumb is that if you're closer than arms length when the ballhandler is in motion, your too close. When looking to create contact on the perimeter, don't try to body up...anticipate where they're going, shade them that way, and let them run into you.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: Defensive Help Thread: NBA 2K10
Does anyone have any advice on how to tone down these ridiculously stupid CPU fastbreak cheeses?
I sometimes have 2-3 defenders back but it's basically like they're not there with the ease with which the AI passes around them, etc.
It's one thing if I turn the ball over and the CPU is on the break but I've had many instances where my the CPU players are just out running all my guys off a missed shot and getting into these fastbreak animations that I have had little success in stopping.
Am I doing something wrong or is there a slider or something I can adjust to help tone down this crap down?Comment

Re: Defensive Help Thread: NBA 2K10
Born and I were talking about this. Both of us believe that constantly switching defenders against the CPU is what brings out the ugly defensive flaws in this game. He brought up the idea that the CPU doesn't make those boneheaded off ball defensive decisions against another CPU controlled player, so essentially controlling one player PER defensive possession might remedy many of the issues users are seeing with 2K on the defensive end.
Don't feel the need to ALWAYS play on-ball defense against the CPU. If you are playing a human, yes. But against the CPU, no don't do it.Concrete evidence/videos pleaseComment

Re: Defensive Help Thread: NBA 2K10
The whole point of playing online is to play another human, not let the CPU defend everything. You should guard the ball and the other player should do the same, otherwise the AI is playing the majority of the defense. It's fine to switch to help if they burn the first man, but just laying back and controlling help defense and ignoring the human with the ball is weak. Ideally they will fix the game so that help defense has a brain, but until then, everyone should be playing on-ball defense when you're playing online, as it puts everyone on an even playing field... one player doing nothing but camping as the C or playing passing lanes off-ball ruins the fairness of the whole thing because it's making up for the AI's weaknesses that everyone should be dealing with until they're fixed.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

Re: Defensive Help Thread: NBA 2K10
I recomend that you incorporate the following tips into your defensive play:
Always...
...make sure that Defensive Assist is at 0
...turn off "auto" Double Team to "Never" at the very beginning of each game, and each game that you have saved, and re-load.
...man the PG at the beginning of each drive. You must apply a decent amount of pressure when the cpu PG brings the ball to the arch. If you don't, one of your wing men will try to cheat to help you, leaving his player open to backdoor cut for the basket.
Never...
...swith defensive players often. You want to control 1 player as much as possible. I have found that the PG is the best player to control. Second, would be the SG or SF.
...depend on Turbo in a half court set. Unless you get beat on a drive, keep your finger off the trigger. you want to anticpate direction, and focus; utilizing your feet.
...over use the steal button. you will get beat on a drive, but once you catch up, they will dump it out to the wing for a 3.
I must say that I have gotten pretty darn good at defense. Which has transistioned the game for me from annoying, frusterating to fun, and sim.STRATEGYHUSTLERESULTSComment

I knew that but, people are saying to switch up the defense to the cpu off balance with I think is pure crap. I'm trying to stop my AI teammates from acting like chickens with their heads cut off.Moderator

Re: Defensive Help Thread: NBA 2K10
Play zone vs me...And you will get blown out. Like I keep saying vs a cheesy user it might be effective. But vs a skilled or knowledgeable player of basketball. Will eat a zone up.
Zone doesn't work because your rebounding is weak.
Zone doesn't work because your fast break defense is even weaker.
Zone doesn't work just because there just too many open shots.
I have never seen a zone that is effective. Man to Man is the way to go.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories
