I mean, the thread starter is pretty much right..........I've been using the right stick on D since I got the game but I use the default controls.........You can hold the L trigger and when the defensive assist kicks in, you can use the left analog to get up on the ball handler, back off him or shade him to either side........You can use the right analog to raise your hands when they shoot or if you push the analog stick towards the player you're guarding off the ball, you can kinda grab him and bump him off his path.......And of course, you can also use it to steal like always....

On defense, I control whoever last had the ball on offense so I'm used to playing off ball D against the computer........It really does work...

My defensive assist is at 10.....

i think some of the things you said above really described what's happening here. with defense assist on and using L for aggressive D, it triggers the defensive stance and bodying up animations. the Right trigger can be used for steals and putting the hands up. i disagree with the bodying up and bumping thing b/c that's automatic even if you don't use the right stick. it's definitely part of the L trigger. so basically, all of these things are done without pressing the right stick to the left. it's debatable whether or not this actually does anything but i've tried all settings and combos and it makes 0 difference to me and doesn't trigger any additional animations for me either unfortunately. i'm still waiting for a vid. clip though.

Works for me. You have to have your green card for it to work. It's only meant for a selected few buddy. Sorry you didn't get the memo. I could loose my green card for telling you this.

just like sambf12 has said - I see no difference in stance or defense when pushing the right stick to the left
the only directions that trigger anything are up and down
I even put defensive assist up ( I had it on zero to begin with)

lol well i'm glad this placebo effect is working for some people but seriously, i don't think this is legit. i'm not hating on the OP as I would definitely welcome any insights like this but i don't think it really works.

A I'm having small problems like when I play man to man defense when I press the right stick to the right it don't always activate help side defense has anyone else seen this I have everything on default.

i don't think this actually does activate it. i think it's activated by the coaching profile and setting and also by your universal help D slider. also, where is the proof that left and right on the right stick does anything? i haven't seen it in the tutorial i don't think? does anyone know for sure?

Come on homie, u know there is alot of things in this game that aren't in the tutorial. I would like to know where the sandman is? It's like he disappeared, hmmn? I know that pushin right on the stick does activate help/ double team. Still unclear if the left on the stick does anything. Where's the YouTube video? Let's get it!!!

i dunno, it seems like it's pretty in depth. wait, did he mean clicking the right stick? what's the default control to call for a double team or call it off? i may be thinking of that or confusing clicking the right stick instead of pressing it to the right etc.

Could it be the Superstar setting that it works on cuz i be playing on Hall of Fame and the right stick D doesn't seem to be working

its everything explained by sandman, try to read 2 or even 3 times if its unclear

i did it - anyways ...

holding the right stick, not clicking, to the right is call for "Help Defense" not double team, this is a huge difference. I'm on the PC still with no patch and this helps me especially with the broken rotations and decreases the "headless chicken defense".
cuz as long as u hold the right stick to the right your team will be aware and trying to contest anything, either drives or going to an open 3point shooter (should be imo automatic but thats the way how 2k designs).
holding it to the left helps to stop penetration but Im not that efficient with this as for now, and its is really nice for good clean(no fouling) contests at the rim, but this also needs some experience.

the stealing while holding the right stick up, if mastered, you can really step up your defense big time with deflections and steals. remember, with the right stick you not only have more effectiv defensive control in an 1on1 but can control the entire team defense, this is really huge but needs some practice.

i play on HoF level ,too. even started it to play only cuz now i know i have the ability to defend the exploiting CPU. before i played on all star.
