    I agree with CX....

But I will say this. When I play online or offline vs Human being. I want to play you. If your going to play off-ball it does not make any sense. I rather play the computer. Why sign online to play the computer? That doesn't make sense to me at all. When I say I beat you. I want it to be actually you. When I get a block on defense. I want you say nice block. I was the one that got the block.

I totally disagree.Off-ball D is fundamental in basketball. It's the same online-offline.It's obvious that you think 'he doesn't know to play good D so he switches to off-ball'.If you think that why don't you try to take advantage of it?

I agree with CX 200% - his is the best post in this thread.

I play defense mostly as the PF or C to guard the paint and cut down on the FRIGGIN' BACK-DOOR CUTS. I look at replays, and I'm like, WTF is up with my defenders??? Don't hate because I'm adjusting to how the game plays.

And don't get me started on that skating crap. I love getting pushed back ten feet across the halfcourt line.

Re: NBA 2K10: Defense and Offense Guide

Oh, boy..here we go with the On ball vs Off Ball stuff.

For me, Im just a hands on type of dude. I want to be in control of as much as I possibly can.

I can use my coach settings to deny who I want to deny, but I have the most fun guarding a player, the way he would be guarded every night in the NBA.

I like being to give space and force the J, or shade towards my shot blockers, press up and force a contest when the shot clock is winding down, force spot up shooters to put the ball on the floor etc. I love that kind of stuff.

To each their own though. No need to look down at anyone.

Individual play styles are just that. Individual. What my cup of tea is, wont be someone elses.

Re: NBA 2K10: Defense and Offense Guide

I also agree with cx. But basically what I do is try to mix it up with on ball and off. What I do is I play on ball until I start to get beat with it. Every team has a different style of play so you can't play your defense one way. I also switch up to 2 3 zones and 3 2 zones to switch up the computer offesive game play. Also it cuts down on the shot attempts. You have to get the computer to think twice about taking that shot causing a couple more seconds to go off the shot clock. Causing a lot of shot clock violations against the CPU. Think a step ahead of the computer. It's hard to do but it can happen. It's all about instincts. I've learned to have great instincts on the joystick. Defensive assits at 0 and using the L trigger works fine for me. If u get good at that it won't be no problems swithing up your defensive schemes. I've have no problem with my defense. Sometime I get beat when I'm playing on ball sometimes I don't. It all depends what team your playing and how the game is flowing at the time.

That is not the point I was trying to make....SMH

On-ball defense is not as hard as people make it out to be. Yes it has a few flaw just like playing off-ball defense has. But I was taling in a sense of me vs you. We all need the CPU to assist us because we can't play or be all 5 players on the court. I like to play games where there is as little CPU help as possible. Like I repeated several times already. I like to play my opponent not play the CPU. Because if a user is just switching around (running away from the ball). I'm better off playing the CPU offline. Yes I totally agree with his argument. I'm not fighting. It just that when I play a human being after the game I want to say yes I beat my opponent. I made the block, I made that steal, I rotated my man over to contest the shot....Know what I mean? Its wasn't because I choose the Lakers and beat you. Its because I pick the Wolves and beat your Cavs by 20. That is much more enjoyable then have to play the CPU.

That was exactly what I was trying to say before. To each its own. I've beaten too many off-ball users since this game has come out to be bother with them anymore.

Jeebs is absolutely right. you can do what you want offline, but online, the best way to know that you're getting the best of your opponent is to play on ball D. As jeebs said, you shouldn't get credit for a win if you just let the cpu play for you half the time. You might as well just be the PF or C all game during offense as well. Honestly, I don't thing controlling one player is all that fun, its not very intense just staying in one place, when you're not even paying attention to the ball handler, you're just making sure nobody does a backdoor cut on you, which is pretty boring.

I don't play online, but offline if you don't play offball and make sure nobody backdoor cuts, you are going to watch easy basket after easy basket. Not only is guarding the ballhandler tough for the user, but the AI defense will kill you by allowing backdoor cuts or easy postups.

Wait a minute....Are we talking playing the CPU or playing Human vs Human game. Because I'm talking playing a Human. If you guys are playing the CPU. Do whatever your heart wants to do...lol

When my friends and I play offline. We have so much more fun when we play on-ball. Because when we cross the crap out of each other and we slip and fall or touch the ground. It wasn't the computer I did that to. It was you. And when you dunk it on me in traffic....Yup you dunked it on me. Like someone said above me. Its pretty boring to play the CPU after a while.

But with all this said....When I play the CPU. I play on-ball. And I can hold my own vs the CPU on Hall of Fame and 2k rosters. Even blown the CPU out a few times.

And also I'm not saying you have to play 100% on-ball defense. That would make no sense. These are situations where I might play a little off-ball little.

I see a screen being set on one of my players.
On pick and roll defense Sometimes I might switch and stay on the roller.
Switch on those lazy passes to pick them off.
Inbound plays (but even then I usually guard the inbound)
My player I was holding gets beat. I switch to the closes me to pick up or contest the shot.

Mixing things up on defense is exciting indeed.

All I'm saying is, when players is having a hard time on D it's better for them to play as PF and C. But hey, if you're an advance player playing on-D is fun! If the PG or SG burns you on defense, switch it on PF or C to defend the paint. Playing as PF or C does not mean you wont have fun playing the game. I actually having fun defending the paint, anticipating the pass inside, denying the ball, and go for blocks.

off ball defense is the excuse for the weak players with slow reaction times. In a online game, on ball defense is the best way to play. Play off ball against the cpu all you want but when you control the PF and i pass it to my pf in the post just to see you run away to a guard I will quit and go play someone else that can play good on ball defense. This is basketball not hot potatoe
