Re: NBA 2K11 - Let's talk about NBA Authenticity/Artistic improvements

-The speed of the low post fadeaways and whatnot need to be sped up. Look how fast LeBron spins off of Pietrus for this jumper:

    <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3SDaTT1ykM0&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3SDaTT1ykM0&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

That's how back-to-basket shots should look.

Also, don't force the defender to be a part of the jab step animation. My player should not do anything I don't tell him to do. EVER.

Speaking of which, don't force us to be sucked into layup animations. If I don't hit Y, I shouldn't contest a layup. Period.

And bumping needs to be toned down, especially on the perimeter. Look at this play from LeBron:

    <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/FcDb-O5NoI0&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/FcDb-O5NoI0&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

If this was 2K10, Iggy would have bumped LeBron at around the foul line and totally impeded his progress. First of all, nobody, and I mean NOBODY is quick enough to do that to any competent ballhandler in the NBA on a consistent basis.

Second, now that perimeter defense is basically illegal, people are a lot less willing to put their body on the line and step directly in front of a driving ballhandler, since they'll just be called for a foul.

Finally, LeBron will just go through you if you try that, so it's better to try to ride his hip into the paint. Notice how Iggy shifted his feet and pretty much let LeBron go past him? That should be a LOT more prevalent in 2K11. Just make a "Perimeter contact" slider and everything will be cool. 0 = what just happened in the video, 100 = you're not gettin to the basket without a screen.

We also need more drive animations, and maybe even assignable signature animations. Not every has the same body language and mannerisms when they drive. Some players drive really hard (the smaller players generally who have to get up a lot of momentum to score in the paint), and others are slower, some players put their head down, some keep their head up, etc. As of now, I think we have like... two different driving animations. That needs to expand exponentially.

Is variable attendance still a no go? I remember it got shot down by the NBA a while ago, but maybe they could revisit it?

It's kind of ridiculous that fan support is 100% for terrible teams in franchise mode. I understand for any other game mode, but it does tend to break immersion when a 14-40 team is selling out every home game.

Variable attendance was brought back to a lesser extent in 2k10. But, as you stated there seems to be no real logic on how it was implemented.

I know it was added late this year in one of the patches so, the good news is that dynamic attendance is back.

Hopefully, it's more authenic with better logic this year and more noticeable empty seats in 2k11 when warranted.

It would make big games seem that much more special if done right.

players should look up to the jumbotron after a questionable call or after a highlight.

Here's another arena that needs improvement, the Verizon Center.

All of the banners in the arena are generic, there are no championship or retired player's # banners.

Shouldn't players with dreads and bouncing hair be moving? I see Dirk and Steve Nash hair moving when i see them on TV shouldn't that be in game also? all the white players hair need to be redone. It just looks like a block on their head. David Lee is the worst.

Re: NBA 2K11 - Let's talk about NBA Authenticity/Artistic improvements

Player chatter could be expanded too. I wanna hear players shouting for travels, three seconds, fouls (we really need LeBron's "OH AND ONE, AND ONE!" just about every time he shoots a layup-- but it shouldn't be something only he does), etc.

Also, the crowd should groan whenever a questionable no-call happens (foul, travel, whatever)

KG also needs a new pre-game intro animation. The "Banging head on the stanchion animation" that's in 2K10 is super weak. He needs to assault the damn thing.

Speakin of KG, shot-blocks after the whistle would be nice, as would be the ability to shoot (and pretty much have total freedom for a certain amount of time) after the whistle. I believe we were even promised this one year.

And some players should have different pre-game ritual animations for home and away. At home, they should be more into it, acknowledging the crowd, and on the road, they can maybe smirk at hecklers, talk trash to the crowd, etc.

The game also seems to just... go a little too fast. Like, for instance:

                <object width="480" height="385">

                <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/kQCbzvwMZwE&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></object>

See how after the foul, everyone just kinda lounged around? Players on the Lakers were giving Odom daps and Warriors players were discussing strategy, as I'm sure some Lakers players were as well. No one really made a beeline for the FT block or the line in Odom's case like in 2K10, where they damn near sprint to the spot immediately after the foul. Players should just kinda loiter after a foul, and THEN get to their respective spot.

I agree with verizon center update.

What's funny is that I post many times on the 2k forum ideas list since 08 about arena issues and each year they got some right it's like up and down. I just hope this year they implement all of our ideas with the arena designs.

On the subject of accessories, I am reminded of NBA Live 2005's collection of goggles and headbands, both of which are mentioned in the first post. Of course, this isn't just Amare Stoudemire goggles, but also Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy, and Horace Grant goggles.

And then there are masks. I know that the in-game model for Rip Hamilton appears to have a mask, but why not make it an accessory? That way, if Rip takes it off in real life, we can remove it in the game. Also, let's look at some of the active(-ish) players to wear masks, three this season besides Rip.

So if Rip Hamilton were the only NBA player to wear a mask, it would be fine to have with just his model. However, when you throw in Antonio McDyess, Jason Terry, Brian Cardinal, Charlie Villanueva, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Alonzo Mourning, LeBron James, Tyler Hansbrough, Andrew Bogut, and Ersan Ilyasova, you might as well make it an accessory for the choosing in Edit Player.

Thought I'd post another suggestion, I've noticed that a few of the players in the NBA (Jermaine O'Neal, Marcin Gortat & Stephen Jackson) wear both wristbands and plastic wristbands together. Hopefully this is something that can be implemented...

Oh, and Gortat and Jackson's cyberfaces could use some improving also. Plus, adding that three-point celebration that Jackson is doing in the photo would be cool too.

what they need is dynamic commentary

im tired of starting the 2nd year of a franchise just to hear old stats... about the playoffs from 2 years ago

they need to mention who won what awards in the season... if i win a championship and have a mvp... the start of the next season i want to hear the commentary speak about my championship run and acknowledge my MVP
