To me a move like this wouldnt make sense doing this would put them in a situation where they have more to lose and less to gain. Both times in the past when exclusive rights where purchased it was by the inferior game. The only way I see 2k making this move is if Ea tries to first and then a bidding war erupts and then 2k should and would have to go all out to keep this franchise open. Even though there is none now competition is always good

Simple answer, no. Why would they? Why pull an EA type of move when you already "own" the market. EA is not pushing 2K, it's the other way around.... If anything, I could see EA doing something like this only to eliminate the best in the biz.... Doubtful, but that is the only way something like this would make sense - if EA tried to pull this, not 2K.

I don't think they'll have to. I seriously think EA might stop making basketball games once they see the sales figures.

nope.... its like they have no comp anyways..... so it does not matter, so it really feels like its an exclusive anyway. THIS YEAR AT LEAST

In retrospect I wish this thread had a poll attached. I'd imagine it would have been a landslide. Landslides are always fun.

Why should they? EA doesn't seem to be putting up much of a fight. Unless Mike Wang leaves 2K and resurrects the Inside Drive franchise. Then 2K should consider buying the license.

In theory they already have it without having to shell out the money for it. In all reality with Elite on a 3 year plan, EA is twisting in the wind right now scrambling to find out where they want this franchise to go. It has no shot of competing with 2K, which I think they know, but that may be related to the lack of improvements to keep up with 2K over the years. If I were 2K, I'd keep doing what they are doing without the need to remove the competition like EA did with the NFL. The exclusive rights deal usually backfires. It only makes people hold the magnifying glass that much closer because without the competition there, people have nothing to compare it too. When your the only show in town, the scrutiny comes a lot more frequently when you remove the freedom of choice from the equation. People like options.

Absolutely not, reason being, if EA continue to fall of, then they just might close their basketball doors. Remember, its a business. If money and revenues don't meet certain standards for a long period of time, that company will shut certain areas down. Elite doesn't look as if its going to sell well this year and maybe not the next. So to me it don't make since to spend that kind of money on an exclusive deal.

Even if in the past years there is a big gap in the competition, literally there is still competition. It sort of drives you too as a developer to excel on what you do. You never know what will happen in the future
