Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

    Clippers Association

As the NBA season approaches the trade deadline, the Los Angeles Clippers are sitting at 21-26 and 3.0 games out of a playoff spot.

Knowing we had a chance to make the playoffs I was content in keeping the current roster intact and holding off rebuilding until the offseason. That's when Phoenix approached me with quite the offer; Steve Nash and Earl Barron for Baron Davis and Willie Warren. Now we all know that Nash is no spring chicken, but that doesn't prevent him from being a top playmaker in the league. Davis has a bigger salary and is signed for 3 years versus Nash's 2. Davis is also significantly younger (although not too young himself).

Not wanting to jump the gun I went into the trade screen to see what I could work out. Nash would help me in my playoff run, but maybe I could get better while also getting younger. Enter the Thunder. Russell Westbrook sure would look nice donning a Clippers jersey, but will they bite? Yes, in a blockbuster deal the following moves were made:

    To OKC Thunder:
    Steve Nash, PG, age 36, 85 ovr, - pot, 2yr $22.00
    Eric Gordon, SG/PG, age 22, 79 ovr, B pot, 2yr $6.85

    To Phx Suns:
    Baron Davis, PG/SG, age 31, 80 ovr, - pot, 3yr $41.85
    Willie Warren, PG/SG, age 21, 59 ovr, B- pot, 1yr+1 $474k

    To LA Clippers:
    Russell Westbrook, PG/SG, age 22, 86 ovr, A+ pot, 1yr+1 $4.02
    Nick Collison, PF/C, age 30, 63 ovr, - pot, 1yr $6.75
    Earl Barron, C/PF, age 29, 58 ovr, - pot, $916k

While I clearly got the best player, I gave up a good veteran in Davis and a very promising young player in Gordon. Phoenix gets younger at point albeit a slightly worse player. OKC gets the best distribution guard in the league and a good combo guard with plus potential. Nash to Durant will be vicious. If Nash retires or leaves after his contract ends they will still be set with Gordon and Harden in the backcourt.

With Barron and Collison added to a roster which already included Kaman, Deandre Jordan, Jarron Collins, Blake Griffin, Craig Smith, and Brian Cook I found myself needing to find a new home for a big man. I decided to continue to try to get younger and part with Kaman.

Toronto comes up with an offer in trade finder which included their first rounder. Toronto has the worst record in the league so I decided to entertain it. Now I know that Toronto has Bargnani and probably wouldn't be interested in Kaman, but I made the move anyways. Kaman became the best player on their roster by quite a bit (79 versus Barbarosa's 74) and Bargnani can move to the 4 moving Ed Davis to the sixth man role. Quite the combo of bigmen north of the border.

    To Toronto Raptors:
    Chris Kaman, C, age 28, 79 ovr, A- pot, 2yr $23.50
    '11 1st round pick
    '11 2nd round pick

    To LA Clippers:
    Peja Stojakovic, SF, age 33, 61 ovr, - pot, 1yr $15.34
    '11 1st round pick

First game after the trades was against the Bulls. Hands down the biggest *** kicking I have dished out in 2k11. Final score of 114-87 and unlocked the wire to wire trophy in the process. Westbrook dropped 42 in only 32 minutes adding 4 rebounds and 7 assists. The game was close in the first ending 26-22 LAC, but the Bulls only scored 9 in the second to my 32. There was no looking back from there. Really loving my new guard and looking forward to the playoff push.

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

So I'm 12 games into my Blazers franchise, and we're already being played by injuries, much like the '09-'10 season.

Wesley Matthews - high ankle sprain: out 4-6 weeks.
Nicolas Batum - sore hamstring: injured 2-3 weeks
Lamarcus Aldridge - sore knee: injured 1-2 weeks.
Greg Oden (expected) - broken ankle: out 6-8 weeks

All injuries were sustained in the past three games. Regardless, my team is still holding on strong winning 4 of their last 5 games.

As of now we're still ahead in the division with a 9-3 record. I've made one deal thus far, which was a SF rookie swap with the Nets: Luke Babbit (higher potential rating, along with 3 star trade value) for Damion James (lower potential rating, lower trade value). Babbit just didn't fit with our style of play, both offensively and defensively, which lead him to becoming a reserve. This caused his moral to drop, become unhappy, so I decided to move him.

On a side note: Detroit started the year 0-10 and decided to fire their head coach. Ironically enough their very next game was against us and they destroyed us, with the score being: 122 - 89.

        Clippers Association

So I finished simming the first season (like to sim the first season for some reason) and we did not make the playoffs. My only pick in the draft, Toronto's 1st rounder, lands me the number 2 pick and I take this 2 guard from Italy. He is only B+ potential but came in as an 80 overall and he can shoot, drive and is an awesome defender. Also signed Caron Butler, Kendric Perkins, and Larry Hughes to 1 year deals. Butler and Perkins are starting and Hughes is a role player.

I'm in the first quarter of my first game of the new season and my brand new rookie guard drives to the basket and gets the bucket and the foul. Go to take my freethrow and the guy shoots it granny style. I was laughing hysterically.

Edit: Finished the game and I have a beast of a player in my new rookie. His name is Andrea Garibaldi and he scored 45 points in his debut. The game went to OT and the Clippers won 119-114. Garibaldi was great, scoring 9 of our 20 overtime points. Now I just need to figure out how to score down low with Griffin and Perkins.

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

            I need some help. Danny Granger want's a contract extension, he's 29 w/ an 85 rating. Currently we're 8-0 because of his play. However, I have two D-Legaue players;

            Roman Popov a 6'11 PF/C w/ a 80 rating (1st rd pick from 2013)
            Christian Jinks 6'9 SF/SG w/ a 74 (1st rd pick from 2012)

That should be on my main roster, but they're not because I like my roster as is and I don't want to mess up the balance and have folks upset.

            Below is my Wizards Roster:
PG: John Wall (89), Shaun Livingston (68)
SG: Evan Turner (86), Shannon Brown (76)
SF: Danny Granger (85), Derrick Brown (68), Austin Daye (65)
PF: Jason Thompson (86), Sean Williams (69), Serge Ibaka (68)
            -C: JaVale McGee (81), Spencer Hawes (74)

            Notes:
Jason Thompson & JaVale McGee just signed a 6yr extensions.
Spencer Hawes is FA after the season and I don't plan on resigning him.
Derrick Brown, Austin Daye & Sean Williams will more than likely be released at the end of the season as well.

I'm in a tough spot, we're a championship team, we lost to the Thunder in the Finals last season. We have good chemistry, currently at 66% and rising. Would you give Granger the extension? or would you let him walk at the end of the season and bring up one of your rooks, or trade him now for draft picks?

Personally I would let Granger walk.. 30 is a bad age in this game.. Not too mention John Wall's production should increase as I'm sure he will make the 89-92 overall rating jump. It looks like your set with even the SF in d-league.. Any chance he is a sharpshooter?

Thanks for the feedback, once the D-Leage season starts up in a few weeks, I'm going to play a game to check both the SF & PF out. The main reason I'm hesitant on this decision is because so far this season Granger has been lighting it up. He's single handily won 6 out of our 8 games so far. He's consistently avg 30+pts & 8rbs a game, while everyone else's #s have been fluctuating and inconsistent. The smart thing to do would be to let him walk though.

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

I started an Association up with the Cavs last night after LeBron's return to Cleveland. The goal was to just blow up the entire team and remake it.

I can't remember the trades off the top of my head right now but I basically got rid of everyone but Daniel Gibson, Ryan Hollins and Ramon Sessions by the trade deadline.

I traded mostly for big expiring contracts, got a 1st round pick from Milwaukee and then the Lakers were having major chemistry issues for some reason. Barnes, Odom and Brown were all pissed off, so I ended up making a deal to get Shannon off the Lakers.

I finished with a losing record and ended up picking up the 7th pick in the upcoming draft, as well as the 26th from Milwaukee.

Boston beat Oklahoma City in the Finals to win their 2nd title in 4 years. For whatever reason, they traded for Steve Nash, giving up Jermaine O'Neal, Kendrick Perkins and I think a 1st. Nash came off the bench for them on the way to his first championship. The move really didn't make any sense, but in the end it worked out for both sides.

So going into the offseason I didn't re-sign anyone. I let all of those big expirings clear major cap room for me and ended up with 35-40 mil in cap space.

Leading up to the draft there were plenty of prospects that I had a lot of interest in. There were 2 really solid point guards, a speedy but slightly undersized SG with a Ray Allen-like jumpshot and a few bigs that were alright but nothing too special that I'd want to build around.

I decided I wanted one of those 2 PGs and the one in particular I focused on was predicted to go 2nd overall (the other PG was predicted to go 1st). I knew I had no chance at getting the one I wanted (his name is Aaron Webber, the other PG is Quinn Rodgers), so I traded up from the 7th spot to the 3rd spot with Toronto. Rodgers did end up going 1st overall to Minnesota (really doesn't make sense considering they have Johnny Flynn but I guess they don't think he's the answer), but luckily for me, Webber ended up falling a spot earlier than predicted to my 3rd overall pick, so I grabbed him.

He's kind of hard to describe or compare to another current player, but he's about 6'1, 190. Very fast and agile with a decent mid range jumper but no 3 point range. His handles are solid but nothing eye-popping. In the end though he just ends up making plays, whether that's dropping dimes, attacking the rim or hitting the open mid range shot.

In free agency Melo was of course the big ticket free agent. I figured I'd make an offer with all of my cap room and see what would happen. I offered a 4 year max deal with a player option and no trade clause. I didn't think he'd sign with Cleveland of all places, coming off a losing season and not being the "sexy" pick to go to like a Boston, LA, NY, etc would be, but he did, so the biggest hurdle of rebuilding was out of the way getting that superstar, go-to player.

I had to fill out the rest of my team, so this is what my team looks like:

                  PG: Aaron Webber/Delonte West/Daniel Gibson
                  SG: Shannon Brown/Sonny Weems
                  SF: Carmelo Anthony/Mickael Pietrus/Kyle Korver
                  PF: Taj Gibson/Reggie Evans
                  C: Tyson Chandler/Robin Lopez

I had my superstar in Carmelo, and my top 10 draft pick at PG in Webber. So I made sure I got a veteran backup PG and grabbed Delonte. He brings a solid option for me at the point in case Webber has any missteps as a rookie or doesn't turn out for some reason. I'm still getting around to getting rid of Boobie Gibson but for now he gives me a reliable shooter to stretch the floor.

I re-signed Shannon Brown in free agency. He obviously brings insane amounts of athleticism and his newfound shooting range. He'll help carry the scoring load with Carmelo as well as give me another guy that can get his own shot off the dribble and attack the rim. I have Sonny Weems as his back up, mainly just because he's one of my favorite players in the league. He's still somewhat of a work-in-progress but he can hit good open looks and is similar to Shannon in that he brings a ton of athleticism.

I signed Pietrus to be my sixth man. This gives me a great 3 point shooter and solid defender so IMO he was a perfect sixth man. I also signed Korver to grab one more shooter to spread the floor.

As for my bigs, I made sure I just had a bunch of guys that would hustle, bring good energy and grab me rebounds night in and night out. Taj Gibson, Reggie Evans, Robin Lopez and Tyson Chandler all do the things I mentioned. Chandler also gives me a big body to protect the rim and some length to block shots.

I've started the season 2-0 beating the Rockets and Bobcats on the road. Melo has had back to back 30 point nights and my rookie PG has looked pretty good so far. In the first game vs the Rockets he got to the line 11 times and had 20 points. In the 2nd game of the year against the Bobcats he had 9 points and 15 assists.

All in all I'm very happy with this team I built. I mostly did this for fun and out of frustration that the current Cavs IRL are a bunch of soft quitters.

I still plan on starting up another Association where things are a little more grounded and true to what's going on in the real NBA right now. I'll probably end up doing one where I control all 30 teams, but roll with one specific team as the one I actually play with like JBH is doing.

BTW another note on that Cavs franchise, in the offseason I seen 2 surprising moves when it came to coaching. The first was Avery Johnson was on the hot seat all season long because the Nets were having another terrible year. The Nets chose to ride out the season with him, but he ended up retiring in the offseason.

The other was that Jerry Sloan didn't retire in the offseason for once, but actually ended up leaving Utah for Denver.

I have a really balanced scoring team in the 2011-2012 season. I just blew out the Pistons, with OJ Mayo scoring 20. My team at the time looks like

@BlueandGold- Nice FA pickup in Melo. Maybe he felt bad for the city with the how Lebaby situation went and all. It seems like you have a pretty good foundation built there. Some of your starters leave a little bit to be desired but, I think you really made up for it with depth.

                        Good luck man.

I like Humphries in game. He's rated 68 by the 2K insider, and I made him rated that in my Association. I don't mind that he's underrated since he just gets me rebounds and blocks and is content with his role.

I am looking to get a better C though. I noticed Dalambert and Tyson Chandler are still free agents. Who should I go after?

As for Murphy, I traded him, Outlaw, and picks for Mayo and cap fillers last season. He was available in free agency but I absolutely despise him on the Nets IRL and I don't like his jumper in game.

Alright. I'll go with Chandler. I didn't like Battie when he was on the Nets. lol.
