It does suck how you can score, get assists and stuff yet one small mistake and your grade goes down half a bar at least.

If you turnover the ball, you lose a quarter of a bar for losing the ball and another half a bar for a turnover.

But the question is what is your three point rating?? If it is low/real low then yeah it is a bad shot. Teams leave Rondo wide open from three and more times than not he doesn't even think about taking that shot. There are a few PG's in the NBA that don't think about taking those wide open threes they are given because they know it is not a good shot for them to take.

Re: Whats the deal with My Player???

I shot a terrible percentage in my last game, probably like 10 for 30 (or something close), and John Wall (who I was guarding) had about 20 assists and I still got an A+ grade. I stole the ball on a bad pass, then in transition I threw a lob in for an alley-oop, and I went from a B to a B+. It can be frustrating when your rating drops a whole half a bar over a turnover, but if you are the PG your job is to not turnover the ball.

If you want to raise your grade, even without scoring points:
        (1) Make good passes - don't pass to the C when he is at the top of the key, it is just a small chunk, but it makes a difference. Even if the shot is missed, you will get a good pass boost. Also, you can even get a pass leading to assist grade boost also.

        (2) Set screens - press B to set a screen, and help open up a lane for the SG. If he scores off the screen you get a boost.

        (3) Play good transition D - when running back to defend the break, whatever you do, don't allow the entry pass. Just keep good floor spacing so the offense can't get behind you. If you are the furthest man up the court you have to defend the easy layup, even if he is a foot taller than you.

        (4) Take good shots appropriate to your strengths - I missed over 2/3rds of my shots yesterday, but they were considered good shots because I was in good space and I am a shooting PG so my Medium and 3pt ratings are decent.

        (5) Play conservative D - Don't use the turbo and just stay in front of your man. Don't go for steals, you have to force the CPU AI to make bad passes to get steals, if you try to steal it, he will just cross over and drive past you. Also, don't jump unless you know they are shooting. A bad black attempt is a bad block attempt because it gives the offense the chance to shoot a wide open shot or (in an iso situation) an easy drive to the basket. If you cut off driving lanes well and go for blocks in appropriate situations, you won't get dinged for allowing your man to score because you have played good defense. Sometimes you are just gonna get J'ed. There is a time to be aggressive, but that won't be until you make it to the league and you have decent ratings.

        (6) Always box-out - the My Player AI really values a box-out and if you grab an offensive rebound as a PG, the positive value is as high as the negative value for a turnover, it's huge. Defensive rebounds are a plus also, but just the successful box-out will also give points towards your teammate grade.

My player is only a 40 overall, But I am averaging a hair over 20 ppg and about 9 asts a game from just playing smart ball. You can't really just go ham out there because you don't have the ratings yet (unless you have a really fast player, than you are in luck). Can the grading system be tough? Yes, it does seem tough when you are screwing up, but when you get on a good roll, you will gain 2 grades before you even notice it.

A cheap way to boost your positive ratings is to do off-ball screens.

I'm not trying to attack you or anything so don't take this the wrong way but when I see a statement like this it makes me wonder how much the person actually knows about basketball. More specifically defense and proper team defense. There are tons of times when a steal or block attempt that doesn't result in a foul or a player taking a shot is a bad one. Reckless gambling on defense going for steals completely breaks down the rest of the teams defense allowing for easy drives to the basket and open shots. Same goes for always leaving your feet on pump fakes. It puts the team in a bad position. It is even more magnified if you are the PG of the team.

There is a reason why Allen Iverson has never made an all defense team in the NBA despite leading the league in steals multiple times. Yes he got alot of steals but that gambling style left the lane and other things open alot of times.

If you are constantly reaching for steals or biting on pump fakes then you are playing bad defense.

My favorite way of racking up positive rankings is with the "Good shot defense" call, if you can manage to get a block, poof 1 1/2 bars just like that.

It is a bad steal attempt, and it is a bad block attempt 80% of the time. In real bball if any of you actually play or have played, if you go for a steal and your guy gets an open lane, it is a bad steal att. If you jump and your guy can go by you, its a bad attempt.

the scoring system could be better in my player, but I like it. I sucked in my combine game sand now im into the nba season and Im doing great. Keep playing and actually try to not do what your being docked for and maybe you will get better.

Only playing on Pro difficulty right now (it's probably just as hard as HOF difficulty in 2K10, imo), but I finished my 6'4" PG draft combine averaging 18ppg, 8rpg, and 17apg.

Assists are too easy to rack up; basically you just have to be the second to last person to have the ball before your team scores. For example, after rebounding I would make a short outlet pass to my teammate, who would drive all the way to the hoop for a layup and I would get credited with an assist. I believe this was a bug with the release version of 2k10 but was fixed with later patches.

As a PG, rebounds and assists can fill up your grade bar easily.

Don't pay any attention to your players rating.

My guy is a 49 overall PG and I just had a 33 pt 7 reb 5 asst game shooting 65% from the floor.

Rating doesn't matter as long as you have at least one thing you do really well.

Once you get to the NBA the assist are harder to come by, I got a ton of assists in the combine but have since dropped off quite a bit, mostly due to my teammates not shooting open shots and instead dribbling a couple times thing shooting.

                          Frustrating but not unrealistic.

                            This.

Overall ratings are mainly determined by meaningless awareness ratings.

For modes like this sports games just need to drop the RPG type leveling up all together. It's just plain stupid and not realistic.

Unfortunately all sports games do it this way, probably because once one game did it the rest followed in this sorry assed copycat industry.

I guess the thing that needs to happen is for one developing team to step up and do it right, have everyone see how good it is, then the rest will follow.
