    2k10 vs. 2k11 (Gameplay Differences?)

I own NBA 2k10 and think it is an excellent game. Still, most reviews placed it in the mid 8's, and then 2k11 comes out and it's getting some of the highest reviews ever seen for a sports title (most notably, the 9.5 from IGN).

Apart from Jordan Challenges (which I hear are exceptionally well done), is there REALLY that much of a difference in the bulk of this game? A full point jump this far into a console lifespan seems a bit much when there isn't any gameplay mechanic added (such as shot stick, isomotion, or even defensive lock-on), and the visuals are basically the same. I played the demo, and honestly, if you took the score overlay again, I doubt I could've told you whether it was gameplay from 2k10 or 2k11.

I'm just thinking this is a better investment in February for 30 dollars than it is in October for 60 dollars. I'm hearing there are a few new elements to Association mode (press conferences?), but that mode was already excellent. If the main draw is the Jordan stuff, well, the guy's been retired for a decade, so it's not going to be any more dated a few months from now than it is right now.

    Thoughts?

2k10 was a good game. 2k11 is the best sports game made to this date.

2k11 is MUCH better. You can't just go by what you see on the demo, there's SOOOO much more to the game than what's on the Demo. If you like an almost exact representation of what you see when you watch a basketball game on TV, then get 2k11. If you still prefer a kind of arcadey, open basketball game, stick with 2k10.

The overal leap from 2k10 to this game is something you might reasonably expect in 2 dev cycles (isomotion this year is great). Truly amazing. The only problem is that some of the new features (tendencies ect) don't seem to have been thoroughly tested. And some old flaws still remain (online play is still not up to par ect). But for the most part this game is where its at.

Also, take that 9.5 from IGN with grain of salt. Its more like a 9.If 10 is overall perfection.

Much much better pass defense, much better colision detection, better help defense and onball defense ie better overall defense in the paint, defense reacts better to iso moves, you arent pulled into as many animations, the defense stance works in every direction, plays are ran better, CPU AI knows what works and milks it until you stop it, defensive adjustments work a lot better, plays are run better, shot percentages are more realistic, many more options on offense with advanced controls.

For me personally there's a ton of things, small and large, that have been adjusted and changed for 2K11. I will not front and say the graphics got an insane bump and the game itself is entirely different, but for the basketball guys who played a lot of 2K10 and surely notice the little big improvements in games, 2K11 is a pretty big step up.

                I've been impressed with:
                -The player movements
-The passing step up (and the ability to truly touch pass around the perimeter)
-The ability to spread the floor and hence truly drive and kick
-Players making sure to step behind the three point line whenever possible while receiving a pass while near the stripe
-Very substantial increase in layup and dunk animations (and animations overall really)
-Approvements accross the board in Association (many under the hood, such as trade logic)
-My Player appears relatively unchanged, save for minor fixes and the addition of press conferences, billboards and the ability to have a signature shoe named after your player
-Arena sounds have been improved, MSG sounds like MSG

Amongst other things, I can't help but not mention the Jordan Challenge. The inclusion of such a great mode is definitely the cherry on top.

Well put. Rarely do you see such a large jump. It's like comparing 2K6 to 2K8 and asking "Is there really any noticeable difference?"

This much is certain for me, 2K10 rebounding is MUCH more realistic. You don't see bigs flying around nearly as much. That is a huge turn off in 2K11. And other than a few other flaws (e.g. assists aren't counted correctly, some sliders don't work at all) that I'm hoping will be patched, 2K11 is a good upgrade over 2K10.

One other thing that 2K10 has over 2K11: the walking the ball upcourt animation.

Paint cheese has been SEVERELY DOWNGRADED.

In 2k10, you could toss the ball into the paint at will...and 95% of the time, it would float over the defender's head and you could just cut, cut, cut to the rim all day long.

I'm loving the pass/defense mechanics in 2k11. A lot of people are complaining about how "hard" it is to pass...in reality, we just got lazy because 2k10 did such a porous job of pass D. You have to be a lot more intelligent with the ball in your hands, and that's the biggest upgrade to me gameplay wise IMO.
You shouldn't worry about what others think of you, because if you knew how little they did, you would be insulted.

I can't even play 2k10 or college hoops 2k8 anymore after playing 2k11. I mean the soundtrack is off the hook, sometimes I lose focus during timeouts because I be listening to the music. Halftime show is awesome, post game show is awesome. Commentary is the best I seen in a sports game.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Most realistic sports title ever now
