I'm 60 games in and have never experience freezing at all.

I have about 68 games and my game has only frozen one time, and that was just after a drill.

It's most definitely NOT un-playable. Through 10 NBA games in 2010, I'm already rated 56 overall. If you do drills and play well in the game (assists, rebounds, etc.) you'll get enough points; it helps to do well in rivalry games, as well. You have to be patient, which is realistic. I don't have a problem with this mode at all...it's pretty close to Road to the Show.

I abandoned my 6'1 3-point specialist PG (I hated being so short, couldn't contribute in the rebounding game and I kept getting put at shooting guard (I was drafted by the wizards) and got owned by all the taller SG's.

So I made a 3pt specialist SG, I just got drafted by the Bucks, I'm slowly getting my ratings back up to where I had them with my other guy.

I just wish the athleticism ratings weren't SOOO bad to start out with. My guy is 6'6 and can't dunk. How many 6'6 players in the NBA can't dunk a basketball?

After I get my 3's up to about an 85 and my midrange to atleast a 75 I'm going to put all my points into vertical, dunk and speed for a little while haha. The day my player gets his first dunk is the day I'll be happy.

i understand your fustration, but just saying if you wanted to be athletic then why not spend all of your points at the begining on your athleticism. You are still a rookie so you will have to make sacrifices.

I tried that with my first My Player, I made an athletic small forward. Just by making him "athletic" his athletic skills still sucked haha. He had like 67 dunking or something. 78 speed. Awful layup, awful shooting. To put it frankly, I couldn't score with him. He wasn't fast enough to get to the rim, couldn't dunk or lay it in when he did get to the rim, and couldn't hit a jumpshot.

I think making a 3pt specialist guard or a scoring guard is the best way to be successful. You can run the shooting drill and get gold almost every time, get automatic bonuses plus the 400 skill points, this way you can get your shooting skills up pretty quickly. And when you're playing an actual game, you have a way to score the basketball that is pretty reliable unlike an "athletic" player that has no good shooting attributes.

And now that I have a guy who can score the ball pretty reliably from 3pt or midrange, I can use all his skill points to build up his athleticism.

I've had about 2 freezes so far. One was when I was pressing Y to sim the game until I got subbed back in, and I kinda mashed on it a couple times because it wasn't responding. That lead to a freeze.

And then just a few hours ago I was playing my 20th MP game against the Heat. Finished it and as it was loading to do the post-game interview....freeze.

If you want to get your speed up easily, at the beginning of your career(or you could start doing this at any point I guess) just turn off autosave, go do the dribble course, if you get a speed boost, save the game and do another drill. If not, just quit, load up your my player again, and rinse and repeat.

Can't you get speed doing the steal drill? It's much easier.

I don't know if you can or not, never done the steal drill...I think the dribble course is pretty easy though.

I don't see the problem with starting with such a low rating. My guy is a 75 now but I remember the grind and how much strategy it took when compete when i was a sub 50.

Seems like they should start you off with better "cosmetic" ratings, like awareness and other things that really don't influence your player when you're actually playing the game. I haven't simmed a game yet, but I'm guessing you get rolled up when you do it cause your stats are so bad. Right now I'm a 53 rated athletic SF, but I'm starting for the Hawks and averaging 20 pts, 7.5 reb, and 3 ast. I've had a 43 pt game, and probably in my last 10 games I'm averaging close to 28 a game. The rating makes your player look worse than he really is, you can do things, especially when you work those shooting stats up and find the right shooting form that works for you. I got lit up by LeBron, but I feel like I could at least compete out there, it wasn't like my guy was so slow I couldn't hang with him.

lol, I have a 7'5" back to the basket C that can't dunk. That's pretty silly. It doesn't bother me that much because I still score with layups. It's just weird.

I'm 20 games into the season and I finally can dunk haha. I haven't dunked in a game yet though, I just became dunk eligible after my last game and I spent all my skill points to get my dunk up to like a 47.

By the end of the weekend I want to unlock a dunk package besides "Rimgrazer"

I understand they want you to have to struggle to become a superstar and all this stuff, but at the very least your guy should start out as a 60 or 65 or somewhere in that area. You're expected to try to make the NBA with a 40 overall player, which happens to be the EXACT same rating as the worst rated player in the NBA free agency pool, its just ridiculous. I know there are some people who like the challenge of playing 5 grueling seasons in the D-League just to get your player up to a 65 overall rating but I think a lot of us would rather play in the NBA through the eyes of a young stud, not a young scrub. I wanted to begin a legendary career, take a run at the scoring title, win some MVP's, etc. How am I supposed to do that with such a BAD player? I realize you can make him better through completing challenges and objectives in summer league games, D-league games, etc. The problem is, that takes seasons and seasons to get them to respectable ratings. LeBron James didn't have to play 5 years in the d-league to become great. Some of us want to play with GREAT players, not garbage players.

I think the mode would be GREAT if not for this, its got a lot of depth and a lot of cool things that made me really want to play it. In fact its the whole reason I bought the game, I love playing career modes like this. I've played through no less than 5 full careers in NCAA football 10 and 11 playing all 50+ games in each career. I've played many NFL Superstar's in Madden over the past few years. This type of mode is right up my alley, I just think they missed the mark by making your player soooooooooooooooooo sh!tty to start out with.

Now i'm not saying your rookie should come into the NBA as a 90 overall, I'm just saying make it a little bit more realistic. Future NBA superstars don't struggle in the d-league or the bench for years just to get a starting job. Thats what journeymen do.

Make the rookies start out anywhere from high 50's to mid 70's depending on your pre-draft workouts and your draft position. Somebody who is the last pick in the 2nd round, yeah he can be a 55 or 58 or something. Somebody who is drafted in the top half of the 1st round should be atleast a 70. Look at the ratings of the average My Player when he gets drafted. If you were running a franchise mode and you drafted a player with that rating in the 1st round, you would be FURIOUS. I just think they really dropped the ball on this aspect of the mode.
Wow, is that what you're coming up with?

I thought you were going to talk about actual problems.

Overall doesn't matter. Height does, though. Even if you want to make a normal height player, or even a smaller guy, you can ball. I had a 6'5 SF who I was balling with. And he wasn't even a 50 yet.

The reason I stopped playing was because your teammates are stupid. The offensive AI in 2k is pretty weak when it comes down to it. It is hilarious how certain players are just black holes, though. And certain players are just money. I remember in the draft camp John Wall would never pass me the ball, but Bledsoe was hooking me up. And the only big man that could do anything is Cousins so I kept giving him the ball.

Fast forward, and I get to the Jazz... but Deron is an absolute moron. You'd think he would be doing something special, but no he's not. He constantly makes the wrong decision, turns it over, and jacks up stupid shots.

I requested a trade from the Grizz because I was tired of backing up Gasol at the C. It was fun for awhile.

It's things like that that make myplayer "unplayable" not that you start out low rated...

Edit: About ratings, though, once they overhaul the game to where height isn't the end-all-be-all, it'd be nice to see players get boosts in attributes for collecting past a certain stat. Like every game you make a 3 pointer in you should get a point in 3 pointers (not necessarily that... but something to that effect.) Or like, take my 6'5 SF... he's in there banging on the boards and getting like 8 or 10 in limited minutes, but his attributes don't reflect it. He's got mostly what he was given as an "Athletic" SF template in rebounding.
