You're assuming that the human player is slacking off? Why would I slack off against the San Antonio Spurs on Hall of Fame? Trust me, I was not slacking off. The game scripted the run they had to start the 3rd.

      Re: NBA 2K11 Scripted ?

Lots of people here must not watch very much NBA basketball. Runs happen all the time. Comebacks happen all the time. Just last night Orlando got murdered in the 1st half. 2nd half, totally different story. Orlando was down 24 points and they outscored the heat 40-9 in a 14 minute span. So, that musta been scripted too, right?

The fact is if you are playing one of the top-teir teams in the league and you are playing on a high level difficulty they are probably going to make adjustments in the 2nd half and try to make a comeback. The NBA is a game of runs.

I play on HOF difficulty and there are runs all the time. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. Sometimes I blow big leads, sometimes I come back from 20 down. Just last night I was playing portland and I was up like 8 with 3 minutes to go, Portland fought back and tied it. They ended up getting the ball with 20 seconds left. Andre Miller came up court, stood there and bled the clock to about 6 seconds, drove into the paint, I converged on him, and he kicked it to to brandon roy who hit a 3 at the buzzer despite my desperation attempt to close out on him and get a hand up. It was heartbreaking and beautiful all at the same time.

This is what makes the game the greatest of all time.

i'm not playing on the same difficult by this type of stuff happens to me too. sure i get pissed when i lose a game i was blowing the other team out by. sure i get pissed when my team starts playing terrible and doing stupid stuff. i absolutely get pissed when they miss wide open lays or open jumpers. at the same time i realize this type of stuff happens all the time when i watch the NBA. sadly when i watch my kings play, i see all sorts of missed easy shots x.x

You didn't mention if your settings had clutch fuctor on/off. Clutch is usually the source of rubberband AI.

You should see more consistent gameplay with it off. Runs will then usually come from a guy getting hot.

            Re: NBA 2K11 Scripted ?

I think there is some sort of script involved but as they said earlier turn clutch off and it will be a lot less quirky.

Just last night I was down 17 points because of the 3rd quarter AI run. I was calling timeouts left and right, but a 10 point lead turned into a 17 point defecit quickly.

I look at the stats and what do you know, I just shot 3 for 19 from the field with the Lakers whereas the Hornets shot 19 for 24, and 4 from 4 from downtown. It was a very fishy stat.

But this is when things felt scripted:

I came back in the 4th scored 49 points in 10 minute quarters and won the game by 10. I didn't cheese, the game just started to allow players to make shots they were missing earlier and the Hornets missed like 10 shots in a row. It was a little too much for me.

I don't like that aspect of the game, to me an entire team shouldn't go cold, and likewise the entire team shouldn't go hot. Sure it happens, but it shouldn't feel like a switch was flipped on and off. The two teams literally traded off on who could hit all of their shots, grab all the rebounds and make all of their passes while the other couldn't do nothing.

So you're cool with the game scripting itself just to replicate something that happens in real life? You probably like canimations too then.

I hate to get involved in a basketball thread, but I believe 2K's whole sport gaming outcome system is scripted. There is really no randomness to what will happen. I've played older 2K basketball, hockey and currently baseball games. Weird things that shouldn't happen do. Players lose awareness, drop in skill, make simple mistakes and the AI makes big plays to tie up and win games. You can't stop it.

Guys, this stuff happens all the time in the basketball. I've played this game a ton since release and I really don't feel like I've ever been "cheated" out of anything by the CPU.

                      Yep.
I get frustrated with teams turning it up/on in the 4th and seemingly become invincible, but teams make runs.
Theres also the many times they DONT make a run.

Why are you guys arguing about thisif you think scripted then don't play the game and as said before comebacks and runs are part of the game, I watched my Sixers blow like a 16 point lead to Memphis, in real-life, things happen, just man up and play next game. And even it was scripted, which it's not, it makes the game more fun, intense, and realistic. Just stop complainin and play the next game.

That's not what the OP who brought this thread back up is getting at. People understand that runs happen in the NBA. People understand that a team will blow a lead. What people don't understand is why teams get on runs at the same points in each game or why the CPU always comes out aggresively after a Timeout every time those are the elements that are up for debate, not the fact that runs do or don't happen IRL.

When you have to resort to the same gameplan each time you pop in a game it doesn't feel dynamic and that much I agree with. Pretty much for me every game consists of playing a first half that's realistic, one team gets the first run of the game the other calls timeout and plays super careful and over agressive on D. Teams trade the run 1 or 2 times, and then depending on how many timeouts you call to stop the run, you either can close in with a good 4th quarter, or the lead is too much to overcome.

I'd love to see a team just come out and over the course of a game come back from 20. I don't like seeing teams just go on a 13-2 scoring run, and then a 7-0 run in 5 minutes every game. Doesn't feel real to me. It should be the other way around where the insane scoring run is 1 every blue moon just like the Orlando game that everyone keeps referring to..

The game is not scripted. But if you want to be a big dawg and say I only play on the highest diff setting then prepare for the cpu to play like a super human.

That is why there are diff settings. The higher you go the higher the cpu's chances of success occur.

Is Halo, COD, all other games scripted?

In COD playing on Normal makes the enemies die realistically. If you turn the diff level all the way to max, dudes take 15 bullets to die.

Play on All Star or Super Star and use sliders.

no one has said anything to change my mind that this game isn't scripted based on my experience with this game. no matter how smart you play, there are going to be quarters where you can't hit anything. sliders, difficulty, whatever...it doesn't matter.
