    Re: NBA 2K11 Scripted ?

I haven't experienced this. Just last game in third quarter Phoenix scored 29 and i 27 but that was because i put the starters on the bench when there was 3 minutes left in the quarter and i had a big lead and i wanted the starters fresh for the start of the four. I ended up winning 110-95.

scripting is ok in my book, but when the game defies physics that is where people feel robbed.

ball morphing on blocks, sliding with out feet moving on steals, ahhhhhh

i would rather a a boost to "offensive awareness" a mentality rating for the cpu not skill or physical abilities

"Scripting" happens to some extent in sports games.

I dont mind it so much, if it at least comes across in a "natural" way.

I wont tolerate a guy like Kevin Love, all of a sudden catching in traffic, Alley-Oops, performing put back dunks, or him being able to check Carmelo Anthony off the dribble on isolations, 20 feet from the basket.

I find this happens less on the lower difficulty levels and with clutch off.

I cannot play this game vs the CPU above All Star difficulty.

I cant stomach the nonsense I see on Superstar and Hall of Fame.

Same here. I see it on player vs player more than anything else. Not ONLINE.

It's the combination of playing on a higher difficulty (which give the CPU attribute boosts) and the run logic that makes the CPU comebacks seem scripted. What gets me mad is when balls start warping through hands on block and steal attempts.

Here's an example of blatant CPU cheating: http://community.2ksports.com/commun...ediaid=4529581

I was thinking this when I first bought it
In the 2nd quarter I get unbelievably cold like 20%ish cold and its not contested shots, wide open lay-ups, open threes even dunks i've missed on a consistent basis and the computer will go down and shoot 70% with their back ups in. I know you have a cold quarter usually but the same quarter for 60% of my games. With that being said I went back and changed how i played in the 2nd quarter and problem solved

So instead of taking the "wide open lay-ups, open threes even dunks" that you were missing, what did you do to solve the problem? Start taking CONTESTED shots or something?
I mean there is no easier way of scoring in b-ball than a dunk or layup and to have your players start mysteriously missing those to help the other team get it's run in is infuriating.

                  Re: NBA 2K11 Scripted ?

I do believe some of this can be mitigated.

Depending on how the CPU team is playing, I always adjust defense and matchups. Sometimes it helps, and sometimes they just get on fire and play well.

I always start with man on man D and then swap in the first 7/8 mins depending on whats happening, sometimes sooner.

I have a lot of success with using a 3-2 Defense, great for picking off CPU pass's that try to go in the lane or post. Terrible outside shooter's? Run 2-3 Defense. 1-3-1 will leave you vulnerable at the wings if you have a good passer your playing against.

Most of you guys already know to do this, but for someone reading this thread looking for a tip, maybe this will help.

Running a 3-2 Defense usually helps me slow down a run.

When you come out of halftime and go on a 12-0 run to start the 2nd half, do you say "Man, I wish this game wasn't scripted so the game would still be close" or do you say "Oh yeah, I'm feeling it right now. Maybe I can finally pull away." Personally, I've had games where the CPU makes a run to start the 3rd quarter, and then I call a timeout and regroup and hang onto my lead. I've also had games where I've come out of the 2nd half on fire and used it as a springboard to take a nice lead and hang on for the win. I've also had games where we've started the 2nd half going back and forth. The point is, every game is different. If you head into the 2nd half and the AI knocks down a tough shot and you start thinking "Oh man, here we go again...", then you probably don't have the right mindset. Call a timeout if you have to, use the pick and roll, get a nice shot from the post, or run a play to get one of your shooters an open look to get back on track.

I've literally never had a quarter where the AI shot 70+% like one of the guys in here was saying, and I've also never had a quarter where I shot 30 or less % like he said. Players knock down tough shots sometimes, but if you can just get a good look for a layup, or get to the free throw line, you can usually get back on track.

This! At the All-Star level, with the right sliders, I find it varies. Sometimes I have the Sprite Spark of the Game, sometimes the opponent has it. Yes, I have experienced the CPU going on a run and my team going cold and yes, it usually happens in the 3rd quarter. I usually look at it as the CPU team making halftime adjustments and then I adjust in return. Switch the Def-adjustment, look to pound the ball downlow, bring in a shooter off the bench. There actually seems to be ways to mitigate it.

I recognize the limitations of the video games, and really EVERYTHING has to be scripted/programmed even if the script/programming is random.

It would be a lot less challenging and fun if going into the second half, I know that the game will play exactly like the first. I appreciate the "runs" even if they have to be manufactured due to technology limitations.

People say they understand runs, but just because the computer is on a 16-6 run doesn't mean the CPU scored 16 straight points or did anything unrealistic. It could be CPU hit two baskets --> I hit a basket --> CPU hits a three --> I make a layup --> CPU scores two baskets --> I hit a jumper --> CPU makes two free throws --> CPU hits a three.

That scenario is fairly common, it occurs in the flow of the game and at no point did the CPU hit more than 2 shots in a row before I hit one. Still very realistic, although it feels frustrating as hell to have the spread in points change by 10 before you really know it.

I can only speak for online play and I will definitely say there is something fishy going on. I have played well over 200 games and it seems if a player is down by a certain score at a certain time in the game, he is screwed. i played 4 games online tonight and it happened to me twice and one game I got the benefit. No matter what I did, I couldnt hit a shot, my passes were intercepted, couldnt grab a rebound...just everything went wrong. Meanwhile my opponent is hitting circus shots and contested 3's. The last game I had the Wiz and my opp had GState and I was beating him by 24 in the 3rd before he quit and I dont blame him one bit. He was calling timeouts, trying to move the ball and get easy layups, etc, etc...nothing worked for him. I have been saying this for months...this takes the fun all the way out of the game.

is that blatant cheating or just bad coding?

i created a 7'5 center who that happens to quite often

(2)7'5 C, drafted 26th in 1st round by Thunder. After winning the championship with the Thunder, I signed with the Chicago Bulls

Yet, when you score this way it is a "good move" right?

It's just poor ball detection. It needs to be cleaned up - but in no way is it "proof" of anything.

The only thing I really don't like is that obviously weaker teams can give you total hell (on your home court). Its almost like the game tries to create drama and sensation by helping out the bad teams.

I felt it for example when I went up against the Timberwolves who where missing Kevin Love because of injuries. You would think that abusing them down low with Aldridge and Oden would give you a clear advantage, but no, frikking Micheal Beasly needs to hit every contest shot over Batum, over Aldridge, over Camby, doesn't matter. Mediocre guys like Wesley Johnson go off like hell too in those kinds of games.
Those are those kinds of games which start out with 6/7 shooting and a 20 to 10 lead early. You try to do everything right, try different tactics on both sides of the court have a couple of guys carrying the team, you fight your way back into the game but in the end you will lose to infallable shooting in the final seconds or minutes - just infuriating sometimes.

I just read the entire thread, good points by everyone. Just know that we can't know who's right or wrong here.

But when I first bought the game I did notice the CPU always had a run in the 3rd quarter and almost always got the Sprite spark of the game. Then I got better, then I started getting the awarded. I stopped playing for about a month, due to my CD breaking. When I finally bought a new one, I was rusty, getting blown-out nearly every game. Then I went into the lab practiced and everything seems even now. Usually I tend to slack off in the 3rd, because I'm to worried about getting players in my association to there season averages.

Since I stopped focusing on my players stats, everything have seen to be fair play. But this morning I moved up to HoF, with realistic sliders and Rashidi's rosters. 1st half would be beautiful basketball. Then second half the CPU would go on a major run and maintain there lead. This happened in 2 of the 3 games I played on HoF thus far. But I have a very difficult time defending the paint and fastbreaks, so that might be just a personal problem. But the CPU FG% are ridiculous on higher difficulties. On AllStar with my sim sliders, I was getting realistic percentages and good basketball.

                                - Nice try, but no.

It's just poor ball detection. It needs to be cleaned up - but in no way is it "proof" of anything.
It wasn't a block because Wilcox's block rating is in the 30's. Had it been Dwight Howard it would have been a block. This proves that the game is based more on ratings than it is on the actual scenario; i.e. scripted.
