Derrick Rose is probably the cover athlete... I haven't watched the trailer/commercial/teaser yet for any clues but it could be a passing the torch thing with having Jordan on it last year... the only way I see them going retro again and remembering a player is if it is on the anniversary of a championship for Magic, Bird, Dr J, etc or if they overhaul All-Star Weekend (Bird, Dr J, etc)
A good number of guys are under EA Sports contracts and pending the length would not be able to get the cover until the contract expired (ie when Kevin Garnett got the 2K cover), they could also go with Rajon Rondo who is prob at the same stage of his career that Chris Paul was when he got the cover with the exception being that Rondo has a ring, if you are going for a pull out the stops superstar (i.e. Kobe Bryant) then you wait until the Finals end and see if Dallas wins it before giving Dirk some $$$$.
I just hope it doesn't go to a fan vote involving a representative from every team because Dan Gilbert or JJ Hickson might win the vote.
Wade's probably still under EA contract and LeBron would prob only do a cover for a game if his ratings are all 99s and A+s and the Heat are programmed to win not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, not 6, not 7... and the Cavs go 0-82 in every simulation.
EDIT: Just watched the trailer... its either Derrick Rose or Michael Jordan again
