On a sad note people are saying they took out the ability to edit players age. This will affect my association greatly. I like to lower aging superstars age so they can stick around longer and not retire in 2 or 3 years. Oh well

Re: No Improvements To Offline Association huh?
Insult to injury.
I've bought every years iteration since 2k8, but I see no value in this years edition. No (real) offline association changes of note (screwing over core fans) and the addition of a bare-bones "online association" mode which will no doubt lag as typical for 2k. What's the point?
I'll grab 2k13 (or maybe "elite" if it looks good enough) next year; this year is a complete let down.Comment

LOL at this statement. Calling a game a complete let-down before it's even released?
I'll put my faith in the posters from the impressions thread who have the game, and are universally praising how stellar it is.
The new post-up mechanic, AI improvements, and Greatest Mode are more than enough to have me excited.Comment

Mechanical tweaks and a novelty mode with old players are fine; if that is all you wanted since last year then go for it. If you've been dying to play the same old association mode online with your friends for years then I'm sure that will be enough to justify the purchase too (despite my skepticism about the quality of 2k's online experience).LOL at this statement. The last two iterations of this game have made major single-player improvements; I'm not sold on just on-the-court mechanical tweaks. While the core mechanics are very important, there is no immersion without an improved association experience.
Thus, I'm calling this game a let-down. I (and from what I see, several others) expected that after last year's gameplay overhaul there would be more emphasis on the core association experience. No dice. Not worth the purchase (for me), but I assume if someone didn't have the same expectation they would be more than happy with the only basketball game on the market right now anyway.Comment

All good points. You're skepticism of the online experience is valid, and if you're unsatisfied with the improvements to association then the game might not be worthy of your purchase.Mechanical tweaks and a novelty mode with old players are fine; if that is all you wanted since last year then go for it. I still don't think you can fairly call the whole game a let-down though... it's sounds to me that you are calling the improvements to association a let down, rather than the game itself.
IMO, the association mode from last year was very, very good. Aside from the trade logic needing some re-wiring I had very little to complain about. The thing that stood out most was the staleness of the playcalling system (after a while) - and the AI needing some work. Nothing was more frustrating than watching Wilson Chandler drop 20 on me while D-rose barely touched the ball.
If 2k12 delivers with the more robust play calling, and star players dominate as they do IRL, I think those "mechanical tweaks" could add a whole layer of depth to the association mode that was missing from 2k11.Comment

Re: No Improvements To Offline Association huh?
If they did in fact remove the ability to edit age that'll throw a real monkey wrench into how a lot of us handle the D-league. I liked to max everyone in the d-leagues age so that after year one they would retire and the d-league rosters would be filled with real players.PS4 - CoastalRyan

Re: No Improvements To Offline Association huh?
Well didn't they add the playoff crowds to playoff games? In the first pic they showed the Mav fans all wearing blue.
Not necessarily an Association update, but it'll make the playoffs atmosphere better.

Re: No Improvements To Offline Association huh?
I couldnt agree more. This is what off set the big time players still bein in inseason free agency once you got deep in an association.Atleast some of those guys would go to the D League. Why in the world would they take that out?Thats the best thing about 2k is their amount of user control over what you want to edit from age, ratings, tendencies, shoes etc.Whats next we cant edit some of these things? If they did in fact remove the ability to edit age that'll throw a real monkey wrench into how a lot of us handle the D-league. I'm not certain about anything at this point. Does anyone have confirmation that we can't edit d-league players ages?PS4 - CoastalRyan

Re: No Improvements To Offline Association huh?
trade logic is still terrible
the computer traded the 1st pick in the draft for the lou williams and a 2nd rounder
2k doesnt give draft picks any value until the pick is an actual playerComment

Re: No Improvements To Offline Association huh?
Really 2k. I just had a season and 2 teams won 50 games. Granted there was one season 6 teams won 50 but after that only 3. That was one of the biggest complaints about association team win/loss records. Unfortunately I'm noticing the same problems from last year. Do we really have to go through the same thing for another year?
2k you guys just couldnt fix some bugs for us? Why take out editing age? Geeze another year. I applaud you guys for the game play improvements but come on you could have at least fixed the association bugs from last year. There is no excuse for that.

So would you guys say the association mode is as good, better, or worse than last years?Comment

Re: No Improvements To Offline Association huh?
I would say slightly better. They updated the off season. They didn't add anything though. Different menu and they rearranged the task. Well they did change the draft. Other than a few things looking and worded different its the same. I'm noticing all the same problems I was annoyed with last year unfortunately. Once again 2k you could have fix the problems from last year.
Basically the same though. I didn't care about it being the same I just wanted the problems fixed. 2k why take out editing age? GEEZEEEEEE. I really hope 2k can throw us a association patch. I hope they ask us for the problems or just go over this thread. I just cant figure out why they did not fix the problems. The mode is good. It could be great with some fixes. I hope 2k put their self's in our shoes and realize we are going to have to play this mode for a year.Last edited by haloofduty; 10-04-2011, 10:30 AM.Comment

Re: No Improvements To Offline Association huh?
Why do people post in threads like this if they don't agree with the premise?
Do you think you're going to waltz into a thread and make someone say "gee you're right, I guess I'm not upset about my favorite game mode being broken for the 4th year in a row." It's like opening a Laker thread to tell everyone why they should be a Celtics fan.
Also, what do you think you're contributing by shooting down someone else's opinion as wrong/invalid? He clearly likes this game mode and he's upset that it hasn't been updated...where do you get off telling him he's wrong for feeling that way?
I don't understand why asking 2k to fix things that are BROKEN is unreasonable anyway..he's not asking them to add new features to Association and ignore other things, he simply wants what's broken (and what's BEEN broken, some of which they blatantly lied about fixing last year) fixed.Last edited by DemiGodzillla; 10-04-2011, 10:45 AM.Red Sox, Giants, Knicks, Liverpool FC, Bruins, UConnComment
