just tried this and it works on 360, i got all the patches and updates.

i dont have the Legends DLC and everything still works

you have to do it in the actual SEASON mode, not ASSOCIATION, if you export teams from Assosiation mode you will get the message "you cant trade/release/ect from custom team".
when you export from SEASON theres no restrictions


for the really great players that only appear late in their careers you can see their attributes in EDIT mode most importantly their SIGNATURES, so then you can just create a player and use those SIGS and copy anything else(or make them 99OVR) and make them age 19 for longer playing careers.

next year they need to simply make all players available in every mode.

with all these historic players, I could care less about the modern ones if I can really use Bird and Pistol and the rest.

FYI, you can do this with the new rookies from the DL draft classes. If you want 2k13 rosters early.

When you download the Legends Showcase and beat the 2v2 and 3v3 modes it says that you're able to select Legends in Creating a Legend without having to do any of this extra stuff. It does not want to work for me for some reason. Does anyone else have the same issue?

Yeah, the developers accidentally programmed in a feature that allows this sort of thing, and the marketing team COMPLETELY FORGOT it was even there.
